I found a fledgling yesterday and he made it through the night. He seems to like drinking water, but he doesn't seem too interested in regular bird feed. I'm going to try the warma water and dog food, I really hope that helps. Thank you so much for this video! Wish me luck!
@pennahusky Hi. get dry cat or dog food and moisten it with warm water.Make sure it's soft. Force feed him a little by putting some food in it's beak and he'll soon catch on.
I found a fledgling last night it was a fluffy bundle on out wall. It was cold that night so brought it in. Hates cat food it kicks it away from it. I tried scrambled eggs with water in a syringe. If you have a new printer ink syringe clean not one used this helped me.! Problem is my neighbour encourages his cats to kill birds, I called police yesterday on him he was violent towards me and was leaning over wall looking into my kitchen OMG perv I yelled. That aside what can I do with bird?
hello! i just found a little baby sparrow yesterday, and i'd like to know what to feed him/her. i gave them a baby worm. he/she ate one, and a little mouthful of cat food ground up to a paste. the baby is sleeping a lot and not eating much. Do you think he/she is o.k.? how much water do you give them?
Sorry I didn't see your post till now. The moisture in the cat food should be enough. I hope your bird did well. I am so sorry I didn't see your post earlier...
what do you feed them? a sparrow fluttered into my window, i couldnt find his parents nor a nest.. so im ganna have to hand feed em. I chewed up some bread and fed it to him he ate it but not much.
@KidJUdgedByHIsPAst I am so sorry I didn't see your post sooner. You can give your bird cat or dog food moistened.. that will be enough... I hope your bird made it.
we saw a baby sparrow trying to fend off a crow. The parents were chirping in the tree. We managed to put it into the bushes. I hope it's ok...We scared the crow away...
@grathysink Yes, good job. As long as the baby is nearby, the parents usually keep feeding it.
We put this to the test last year at my husband's workplace. A baby mourning dove fell from it's nest. My husband brought it home and we fed it for for the first day. His co-workers (a bunch of "tough" hispanic guys :-} ) made the baby it's own new "nest" out of a milk crate and shredded paper. The parents regularly visited and fed the baby until it fledged.

@grathysink when we had doves roosting this past season, the crows kept trying to scare the parents away and take the eggs. Want to know how we got them to stop? Scare crows. No joke, they work. It kept those crows away until the chicks grew up. But crows are smart, so I had to keep building more and more of them...too bad they made their nest in my front yard. I must have looked crazy with an army of scare crows in my front yard hahaha
I found a sparrow fledgling tonight at work, it was frozen cold in a puddle. I thought it was going to die but I held it in my hand until his feathers started drying out and his eyes opened. Have brought it home and it has had a little mashed up dried Purina dog food with a little water. It was 10pm at night so didn't know how much to give it. Hope it survives till the morning!
I think that baby birds don't eat when they are very damaged. Once i found a bird and it didn't want to eat because i think it had no survival chance. The next hour, he died. But keep TRYING!!!
i found a baby sparrow today and it has a broken leg :( idk how to fix that im afraid itll be painfull, he/she doesnt seem to be interested in the moist dog food but ive managed to give him some. why doesnt he open his mouth for food instinctivly?
to the lady who cared for that little bird you have class i just found an orphaned robin chick im going to try my best to feed him using your tecnique i hope all goes well
well dry catfood (purina recomended)mixed with water until mushy but not watery works very well hears a link to see how its made.put some on the end of a spoon until he gets the hang of it mine took about 1 hour to eat properly.
please help me... i found a sparrow today by smart and final and i don't know what to do so far i've given it plenty of water and what it will eat of moist bread(which is not much) but i don't think it's enough. what are you feeding the sparrow in the video?
Love Casy in the back of the cage. Hate to tell ya but you may have to keep that baby now. He maybe attached to you. I hope he can make it in the wild if you do let him free. You have done a great job!
If this isn't the most precious thing that I have ever seen, I don't know what is!! How sweet! Have you seen my "Little Bird" Video?? 5 adorable and humane stars!
I fed my sparrows with Kaytee Exact too when they were little. Everyone tells me not to feed them it because it does bad stuff to them, but they're wrong. :) I guess they've never tried it before because all the sparrows I've raised were fed the Kaytee formula and they all turned out great.
Thanks for dropping by~!! Glad you didn't listen to your friends. Kaytee is a good company. I have experience in the pet industry, and Kaytee is very dedicated in making great products for our pets. The birds need all that nutrients and Kaytee has it all.. Have you heard of Zupreem? They are good too.
Hand feeding formula by "Kaytee" called "Exact". It is for hand feeding exotic birds.. you know, parrots, cockatiel, etc... You can get it at bird stores, and even in some pet stores.
Aw a cute lil sparrow! I want one now! Msgirlee thankyou for accepting my friend request on youtube. I am happy to be your friend and share videos with you!
thank you Tara. You are wonder woman yourself, you know? You give a voice to those innocent animals, and you don't back down.. You're a love, and you ROCK!! xoxo
Oh Mari, how very sweet! I wish you more success than I've ever experienced, with wild bird rescues. We've tried numerous times, hummingbirds, rufus towhee, house finch. We've never succeeded. I so hope you're able to get this fledgling to flight! Hugs, Pam
Thanks Pam, you are so sweet. I just introduced him to mealworms..ewee.. and he is really eating those guys up! I have food on the bottom of his cage, and he picks at it. I will keep him till he is a little older when the corners of his beak fill out and doesn't have that "baby" evidence that he is a chick...hehe... I don't want to get too attached to him.
It takes a special person to take the time and try help out nature when it's fallen off course. I raised a squirrel once and it was the most rewarding experience. Good luck with it!!!
Wow! I have never seen that before. Very cool that you know how to do that. That little guy is lucky you came along that day. What a great person you are. Oh, and Kacee's eyes are just so sweet. Pretty girl. Hugs to you.
Nice job you are doing with that young bird Mari, you certainly have your work cut out for you though. I think if I had come across those fledgelings in the gutter, I would have picked them up and placed them in the nearest shrub or undergrowth, as the parent bird was likely to be somewhere near.
You are so right on... but our neighborhood has these crows lurking in the trees, and cats that lurk in the undergrowth.. and I see too many "squished' chicks on the driveways and side walks, so I decided to try to save them. I came across another neighbor just moments after and she had been walking her dog, and commented that she saw 3 fledlings, and her dog had tried to get to them. So I did go back and try to find the other...
Well done for this act of kindness. Whenever I've found an injured bird I've called the RSPB (a bird charity in Britain); I wouldn't have a CLUE how to care for them myself.
I think Casey is fascinated with the size and that I am making such a fuss over the little bird. Sometimes she just sits in front of Charlie's cage and stares at him. LOL.
My father used to find baby birds and do that all the time. He's even hatched a few. One of the hatched died, but the others were a success. Then he gets mad when they are older and crap on his car. Oh well.
hey i just wanna say i admire you for doing that. You're a great bird momma:) So what sort of food is in the eyedropper? So you know enough about birds to know his name is Charlie and not Charleene? :) Best of luck little guy!
Hi Blink, I was talking to Charlie, my African Grey.. He was making sparrow sounds when I was feeding the little bird. I am using a hand feeding formula for exotics by "Kaytee" called "Exact". It comes in a powered form, and you mix it with water till it becomes like a gruel, and it has to be warm when feeding, or your bird can get a "sour crop" . I don't want to get attached to him, but he sure is cute with his BIG eyes....LOL..
I found a fledgling yesterday and he made it through the night. He seems to like drinking water, but he doesn't seem too interested in regular bird feed. I'm going to try the warma water and dog food, I really hope that helps. Thank you so much for this video! Wish me luck!
