not elastic or plastic....which the ballet world wants all ballerinas to be....she has some weight and that is healthy! oh, so healthy...the girl can eat some arroz con pollo and some great cuban arroz y abichuela! Finally! She can act and she can work those points shoes! OLE!!!
the single-double fouette doesn't go with music at the coda, why do they do it? unless it is more important to show off the ability for endless pirouettes than being artistic
She's actually almost DULL at the beginning of her variation, but the passage with the echappes is heavenly, very light and dancerly, and the sequence of toe hops with pas de chevals is delicate and delicious; this is NOT what I was led to expect from her dancing, with gross effects of balance like Toumanova at her worst -- I could find it in my heart to love her, to respect of course her natural gifts of strength but also her sweet temper and youthful generosity.
Where is the fan ? Did someone steal it ? Why is she wearing a costume that looks like it came from the 1960s ? Can't Ballet Nacional de Cuba make a few new costumes ?
@amapons many people comment about the fan on versions of this variation without it, but the fan is not obligatory, Maximova and Plisetskaya did this variation without a fan... it really depends on the choreography... about the costumes, it depends, where are you from? because as long as ballet costumes are pre designed they also change from one company to another, in my opinion culture can bring more to art
Guess this is some older recording, but I saw her in the same ballet from 2007 and I just couldn't believe my eyes.
She made me think that maybe ballet CAN be more then just some astonishing technique (that these days it is) ...but it can be dance in it's wonderful form...giving out your soul, passion, love, to the audience.
BRAVO A TODAS...
The orchestra played the music in a much smoother legato than we usually hear. That really diminished the sense of energy that is usually present in other performances.
I miss the fan. I read in comments that the fan was stolen. I admire her that she danced anyway and did so well when she must have been upset about the fan. A real trouper! Bravo!
What is wonderful about this KITRI is that she has personalized the variation. Not a pastiche of others that have achived fame in the role. Flawless technique which she uses to express the Andalusian flair of the character. Flirtatious, but with class. An ideal iterpreter with her own style. BRAVA!
There is nothing wrong with her shoulders. That's part of the Cuban School of Dance. There are different schools or styles in classical ballet: the Russian, the American, the English, etc. Cuban style of dancing gives a special emphasis to shoulders and hips, among other things. Remember Cuba is the land of rumba, conga, and so on. This way of dancing is part of Cuban idiosincrasy. Many great dancers in the world go to Cuba to take master classes and learn about the Cuban technique.

Hey sorry to tell you but there is no American school, there are only 6 schools defined all around the word: English, Danish, Italian, French, Russian, Cuban.
There is an American way of dance that started to established with George Balanshine.
That will be an Academy a place where people go and learn how to dance, school defines much more stuff, from the methodology to the dancing. There is not a recognized American school, but there a lot of academies to teach ballet.
You are absolutly correct, her interpretation of the rol is very much like spanish women dance even flamenco, but with the cuban clasical school, where the dancers dance with maestria and passion, with salero, with garbo, like it is said in spanish. Slaw turns so she can take advance of her domain of her sence of her secure and perfectly centered spot in the way she turns, alway.....
She is the maximun exponent of the cuban school today.

@amapons That is how the costume is supposed to look, genius.
Number two. I feel like she doesn't need a fan, she's in Cuba for christ's sake and maybe that's the way the choreographer wanted it

This comment has received too many negative votes show
God, she's so slow and clumsy. In "Bolshoi'' even corps de ballet can give a better performance. Try Natalia Osipova.

@sayitinrussian So true. People who think this is a great ballerina have obviously never seen Osipova or Vishneva.

she has no speed, no sense of allegro, the music is flat too, not an exciting kitri at all.

it was stolen at the very moment of her variation, by a french ballerina...it was found later on that person's luggage...sad, right?
