  • Tommy Young was such a great referee...what ever happened to him? He always made a match just a little bit better with his officiating.

  • Crockett owned UWF at this time. Windham should have won the titile here and at Starrcade 87 it should have been unify the titles night. Nikita beat Terry Taylor for the TV Title,Windham could have beat Steve Williams for the World titles and Tully and Arn could have beat the UWF tag champs at the time. Then Flair could have won the title back at the first Clash. Windham was awesome. Flair just greedy.

  • @theenforcer1977 I don't think it was Flair being greedy. The drawing power was in the babyface chasing the champion. Flair made everyone he worked with a star, he fought Hawk at a Clash once and you actually believed that Hawk could possibly win the title that night, but Flair somehow pulled it out in the end to keep the title. This made you want to watch the next Flair match and see either the babyface get the title or Flair get his ass kicked.

  • Get well Barry, we don't want to lose another great wrestler.

  • great match up

  • So many wrestling fans praise the '89 Flair vs. Steamboat series, but IMHO the series of between Flair & BArry Windham are just as good.

  • Tommy Young was just as Entertaining

  • This is off the Jim Crockett Cup VHS.

  • both look like they spent the last week on the beach. and windham in yellow trunks, whoa! hot match. hated the ref tommy long, such a camera hog.

  • ronnie garvin had no personality. i couldn't believe they ever gave him the belt.

  • Crockett Cup 87 Day 2- Baltimore, MD - Arena - April 11, 1987 (13,000)

NWA World Champion Ric Flair pinned Barry Windham at 26:01 with a roll over and grabbing the tights for leverage

THis is the date and event

  • Crowds hot but why is it so clipped?

  • Barry was such an underrated talent....

  • So many incredible matches between these two. I remember an episode of World Wide Wrestling where the entire show was a taped, one hour time limit draw between them. It may have been this match, I don't recall.

As many have already stated, this ISN'T sports entertainment, this is the "sport of professional wrestling".

  • flair putting garvin over instead of windham or luger was an err in booking judgement in hindsight. although the flair garvin program was getting over so good when it was going down. just my opinion. great days of wrasslin

  • @wilbert916 I agree with you, I still don't know why Garvin was the world Champ instead of Barry Windham. Barry was very popular, more than Garvin. Yes, Ronnie was a great wrestler and a great veteran but Barry had more charisma and was a better athlete. Shame he never won the World Title. (Barry won the NWA title when the belt didn't meant much). Barry Windham is one of my all-time favorite, and the match on the Ultimate Ric Flair Collection dvd is one of the best ever.

  • when i watch barry's matches, it almost pisses me off why he was never given a title run. @JonathanVonErich

  • Barry Windham= the MOST overlooked and underrated wrestler star EVER!

  • this match took place at the 1987 crockett cup

  • @spoodyface yes April 1987

  • McMahon's "sports entertainment" is total shit. McMahon destroyed wrestling. The WWE needs to be on the cartoon network or better yet, off the air. The wwe is exciting to mentaly challenged people that are excited by light shows and loud noise.

  • isnt this beachblast

  • @jeaubear This Is From The Crockett Cup in 1987

  • barry had one of the cleanest lariats back in the day.

  • this is from the 2nd crocket cup in balitimore. flair with a great win.

  • Fuck Vince McMahon and his fucking "sports enterainment piece of shit. This is what the real old school professional is all about. Is all about geting down the bussiness.

  • dude your exactly right vince mcmahon screwed up wwe from the beginning did you hear about what he tried too do with wcw when he bought it the first time

  • @gregory8991 Hmm, no what did he try?

  • @metalwhiplash666 agreed

  • thinking about it in hindsight, I think I would've preferred Windham as World Champion instead of Ronnie Garvin.

  • @Dre7Guevara I would've preferred either Barry or Lex as World champion but Garvin was the only babyface available to take on Flair for Starrcade '87. Barry was slotted in with Dr. Death, Dusty was slotted in with Lex Luger, Jimmy Garvin (along with Sting and Michael Hayes) was slotted into a six-man tag match with Eddie Gilbert, Rick Steiner and Larry Zybysko. Nikita Koloff was slotted in with Terry Taylor to unify the NWA/UWF World TV titles. It was a matter of 'Who else was there?'.

  • @SheriffTankStoner ...Rhodes didnt want to put the belt on Windham, because he still held it against Barry that he left Florida and went to the WWF in '84. Putting the belt on Garvin was stupid, but the company was being run by Flair and Dusty by that point. Garvin didnt threaten either of their positions. Babyfaces were thin around this period because Dusty was hoggin' the spotlight and the WWF was grabbing up all the marketable babyfaces

  • I think this is their Crockett Cup match from 4/11/87.

  • Windham may have been in the best shape of his career here.

  • It's from the 11th of April. This is the one Dave Meltzer gave 5 stars

  • Barry is one of the greatest underappreciated wrestlers of all time.

  • Love it that the camera was right there picking up everything that was said between Flair, Windham and the ref. That enhanced the story that Flair and Windham were telling in the match.

Also, LOL at 5:22 when the ref says to Windham "I don't want to have to disqualify you!"

  • This WAS a great wrestling match, it's a shame there's not any more professional wrestling matches like this anymore on TV.

  • So true. This era in wrestling was a wonderful time in my childhood. Its a time that we will never get back.

  • no we won't

    :o(

  • What a heel!

  • Most of Flair's greatest matches were in the NWA. I remember him facing Dusty Rhodes and Harley Race. Now, Viince Mcmahon has ruin professional wrestling with all these stupid gimmicks and wrestling attire.

  • True professional wrestling is dead. Now all we have is Vince McMahon's "sports entertainment". It's truly heartbreaking.

  • if U think about it, that saying pretty much sums up ALL sports, not just wrestling.

  • @RevDarkehorse & Dixie isn't helping things much either. They claim to be an alternative to Vince but, I don't see it.

  • @akung94601 Vince has madeit MORE about the gimmick. Yes, there's always been gimmicks but, Vince cares more about it. If you can't wrestle he could care less.

  • i love Flairs walking- drop thing....

  • Yep, it's a classic. How about when Ric flips up over the turnbuckle? Classic!

  • how come this match is not on flairs collection dvd?

  • Flair could carry any match he was in. truly one of the greats.

  • wwe will never put flairs best matches on dvd

because it will prove that nwa/wcw was better..

  • Hahaha.

  • @athelston & Vince sure doesn't want that.

  • I remember seeing this as a kid, it still remains I think one of the best matches ever, hands down. When it was broadcast, it took up the whole program and TV time ran out and they just showed a placcard that said "Ric flair went on to win and retain his world title" I wish I could see the whole thing.

  • ty man

  • damn good match . i watched a hoot interview with arn anderson and he said barry could have been as big as hogan or flair . but barry had to many out side interests hed come in for a lil bit wrestle a few months then leave and do somthun else . and his outs side interests blew his chance at becoming a mega star .

  • This a hard business. Guys like Barry,Tommy Rich, and Austin Idol were true superstars that could have been so much more. But these guys liked to do there own thing and are happy with what they accomplished. God Bless 'Em.

  • wasn't this on the crockett cup DVD?

  • Comment removed

  • Hundreds of "best of" DVDs of Ric Flair could be made outside of the WWE library ... awesome find!!!! I recall of that feud...
