so I never really follow mag fields. but I'm looking at the link from swpc and the graphs are currently flat lined above the lines just as you suspected.

My question is why the GOES X ray flux has flat lined since lovejoy was on approach and is still flatlined ATM...Also did you know its been proven the day we got the japan earthquake 8.8...A scientist noticed a huge surge in electrons above the epicenter....Things that make you go HMMmmmm...

i find it strange that the magnetic field is weakening, given that the earth's rotation is quickening.If i have interpreted the data from ires correctly we should have a negative leap second taken off our timing systems, this would be the first time such an adjustment has occurred

that baseline or norm of z-scale up to 4 or 5 -- how long was that measured for and what are the standard errors of means? - i guess i am just asking is this a regular fluctuation.

Is it true that when the shift happens we will be left without a magnetic-sphere? And what does our "M-S" protect or prevent from right now, which it wont be able to when its down? I heard something about the CME's have a EMP effect... If a CME hit a section of Earth at which point in time would that location be electronic useless? Is it true the human body runs on Electric? Would or is it even possible for a CME to damage the human brain? what about the radiation from a CME. John... JOHN!

@MAC02134 I’m just outside of Philadelphia and it was about 3 months ago since the last time I heard thunder. The thunder was so intense and very long and drawn out, never in my life heard it like that. At one point I had to ask my wife to listen and we were trying to figure out whether it was the ground or the sky making those noises.

@3eightsstrong WOW! I had an experience exactly like that, at about the same time, but I live in Clearwater, FL. My husband and I heard and felt a really low rumbling, that seemed to come in waves. The closest storm was about half an hour away!

Thank you for posting - I have been watching the polar drift chart ,,very strange spiral getting smaller than last years chart ,,,to me it seems the spring and fall seasons have shortened by half making gardening hard as plants need temp/direct sun for proper production ..our storms have very strong lighting and long rolling thunder here in the AR ozarks - we also have high rads showing often but there are many medical rad centers in the same area as monitor and a nuke power plant close also

december 12, 2011 utah reports thousands of migratory birds dive into a walmart parking lot and die. maybe its linked to the magnetic anomaly. the reason they give for this happening is beyond stupid.

maybe related or not, however, we no longer have any thunder or lightning during our rainstorms in the US southeast for at least three months now. anyway, it seems to me that something major has changed in or to the atmosphere. there are big heat and cold swings, lots of volcanic activity, and winter hurricanes in UK. recently heard that we have "lost the thermosphere due to CO2 emissions from ISS or international space station

@ Astrotometry -- I'm an electrician, and as a result need to undestand electro-magnetism, at least on an above high-school level, and I've always wondered, we use two alternate sources of polarity to produce a voltage/current, that energy has to come from somewhere, one of our sources is always 0v, or "earth ground", as we use more and more alternating current, effectively "pulling" those spare electrons out of the earth, could we actually be sapping the strength out of our mag-field?

Our electrical infrastructure,  things like broadcasting systems, HAARP, the Supercolliders, and electrical lines which span whole continents must have an effect on the Earth's magnetics. The thought occurred to me one night when I was watching a vid about physics and the four forces, and I thought, wait a minute, if electricity and magnetism are ONE force and not two, then using AC generation could affect magnetic field strength. It's a long shoelace to tie (as you said, the SHORT answer, haha.), but it's there. Been following you for awhile, highly respect your work. I have lots of questions as good or better than that! hahaha. =)

@astrotometry Here's the part that REALLY fills me with joy and hope when I consider it....If energy can never be created or destroyed, is ALWAYS there, and our thoughts, heartbeat, memories, etc are electrical currents, then the soul truly could be eternal! I mean, what happens when we die, our soul must get scooped up and taken off by the next passing electromagnetic wave...isn't that kind of awesome? I don't believe in organized religion but this basically proves afterlife 4 me

also, i know this is off topic, but i felt you should know, very high levels of radiation across the usa. reno nevada real time radiation monitoring shows levels of 850. hazmat suit recommended by the epa at 300, so this cant be good! i have family in reno. :(

thank you for sharing you knowledge of the magnetic field. i watch the simulations of the magnetosphere, and altho i dont know that much about it, i can see that it is far from normal these days. the magnetosphere simulation shows 14 reversals for the month of october, november 12 reversals. on december 6th, something very strange happened and the magnetosphere held the same twisted position for over 15 hrs, if i measured the time correctly. something is happening! but what i dont know!
