@bodiloto, como siempre no te enteras de nada. Ramey 'clava' este rol. Esta entre los mejores, seguro, y escenicamente es atractivo como nadie. Donizetti y Bellini evolucionaron de Rossini. Verdi revoluciono de ellos. Boito intento lo mismo con Verdi y Puccini fue el cambio total hacia el XX. Todo EVOLUCIONA¡ (inevitablemente), menos tu¡.

I saw Sam Ramey perform this at the Houston Grand Opera, and was totally amazed as to how physical this role is...........Sam Ramey is the best Mefistofele ever!

un baritono che sta interpretando un ruolo di basso...e poi vocali brutti,voce sempre al limite perche non é basso...a me non piace affatto.

@ArentWeSpecial  il suo italiano é perfetto ! Guarda 1991 à Ginavra ho visto dal vivo Attila con Ramey e Paolo Coni che interpretava Ezio.Nel primo duetto Coni aveva voce piu scura e piu importante di Ramey , lo stesso Coni per me non aveva la voce di baritono Verdiano.Ho ascoltato Ramey durante 30 anni, accanto à tenori come Vinay ,Nikolov,Giacomini Ramey hà la voce di baritono Rossiniano e accanto à baritoni come Guelfi e Popov lo stesso Ramey dal vivo hà la voce di tenore...

@bodiloto lei tocca una questione molto importante: è la tecnica di Ramey che gli consente di avere una voce squillante come un tenore, ma la sua voce naturale resta quella di basso vero (al limite basso-cantante, che è il basso più comune)

@galehout si amico,purtroppo quando ero giovane questo 'modo' di cantare non esisteva...La bellezza della voce era il nostro ideale e la perfezione era obbligatoria.

Ramey non cantava,Ramey urlava,senti le sue registrazioni quando era giovane...

Quello che dici è giustissimo purtroppo c'è un limite à tutto.Carissimo,mi ricordo che per Nicolai Ghiaurov dicevano che non ha la voce del basso...

Taddei dal vivo aveva una voce più scura di Ramey e cantava Figaro.Era baritono.

Amico,dal vivo e senza microfono Ramey aveva una voce normale del baritono 'rossiniano',questo era un fatto,'basso cantante' dal vivo era Ghiaurov che aveva una voce molto più bella e grande e per dirla tutta volevo chiederti ;spiegami ti prego come e possibile che i tenori della mia gioventù avevano voci più scure di Ramey?!?

E poi mi dicono che Ramey è il migliore basso del mondo!..Nel 21 secolo tutto è possibile...

I have seen Samuel Ramey do this part at the Metropolitan Opera in the 90's and he was so amazing! This part was just born for him! If you notice from 6:07 on, Samuel is in front of everyone else conducting everyone and Rameys back is to the conductor. So the actual conductor is following Ramey's lead. Its absolutely brilliant!

@hotwriter36 AND, Ramey puts on his "conducting jacket" before he starts to conduct the chorus! i thought this was a delightful sight gag. But then, the "little red suit" in itself is a great sight gag. :-)

@Arashi110, His voice is just perfect for this role...and his stage persona fits the role like a glove. I think this really is his signature role...and he absolutely owns this particular production of Mefistofele. Somewhere on the Net, there's a photo of another bass in the" little red suit" costume from this production. Somehow, he just doesn't look right in it.

@TheSnorkelbuddy Yeah, I wouldn't want to see most opera singers in this costume, but Ramey looks great! There is a photo on the net of another singer in the costume (He did the production in Europe somewhere). i'm not naming names, but this other singer looks pretty awful in the outfit!
