I appreciate your story for what it was. Your own personal account of an event that obviously rocked your world. You appeared knowledgeable regarding your wife's condition & what to do.You are correct about diabetics acting drunk, ask any cop who's experienced hypoglycemic drivers. I stopped reading nonsensical drivel in the comments & will not read any regarding my post. I just wanted to tell you I admire your courage, your candor & the obvious love you have for your wife. I like your style.
@CubanCumbiamberita I feel pretty unfortunate to have read your comment, now I feel compelled to tell you that from my perspective this video said more than just a lack of glucose tablets.. It offered advice to non-diabetics, and that's valuable as we can't always look after ourselves.. I know first aiders were I work, who, didn't have a clue how to help a diabetic woman and I had to intervene to ensure her safety - so this information that is being shared is truly valuable.
lastly, I have had serious lows from MDI, having an injection hit a blood vessel or something and then end up tasing the insulin and it gives me a really rough low and hard to fight back out of it - 2 packets of dextros glucose tablets, a 500ml bottle of coke and then slow releasing carbs like a sandwich required to keep me out of needing paramedics. frightening sometimes.
I also wanted to say, thank you for sharing with us! I have a shit load of respect for you, with your knowledge and being willing to teach others. rare.
I just wanted to say, I'm a type-1 diabetic and obviously an insulin dependant person too.. lows are fucked up, so far I've been lucky but I do get worried and it takes a lot of care - a faulty insulin pump sounds frightening and I was thinking about your video.. I think that your wife was actually tell you, low sugar, this diabetic person shouldn't be here 'low?' and I think it's fascinating.
@Doll18181 hey, I'm diabetic, had some close calls myself - needed paramedics a couple of times and had serious lows that were a struggle to get out of.. but I talk about it - just like this person does - because there is no use crying about it and it doesn't solve anything especially as being diabetic or protecting a diabetic person requires the ability to stay calm and focused despite being faced with the potential risk of losing a life.
Doll18181 - when you live with diabetes, and deal with severe hypoglycemic reactions all the time, describing them becomes normal. TilleyJS's tone of voice has nothing to do with whether his story is true.
This very thing has happened to me twice just in the past week - and that is just in the wee morning hours. In fact, my reactions have been much worse. My fam uses glucagon if I'm too far gone to eat/drink.. TilleyJS, I'm glad your wife has you, and I'm glad she's OK!
when someone with diabetes starts acting strange, you should always assume that their blood sugar is low, when they act like this, they most often don't know that they are, I am that way sometimes when I get very low. Despite what everyone is saying, I hope that you and your wife are ok and that you have learned a lot from this experience!
PS: I don't know who the hell you think that you are fooling with this "I'm in the health care profession" crap! If you were REALLY in the health care profession, then you would KNOW to have a tube of glucose jelly around your home for a diabetic in case their sugar drops. Even though her sugar was in the 30's you could have given her some orally as it is absorbed in the mucosa. THERE IS NO WAY you could have an education in medical above an orderly. U are CLUELESS about medical practices!
@Chrliesangelsman I'm diabetic, insulin - etc... there are times that I run out of glucose, test strips, and on rare occasions I even run out of insulin - life can get in the way.
This dude makes an absolutely HATEFUL video about Farrah's dying & shows NO empathy, now he wants us to verbally "pet" him and his woes. I feel sorry for this dude's WIFE, but NOT for him. He is evil. Listen to his comments about Farrah & you'll see! Besides, I doubt very seriously he even HAS A WIFE, it is probably a husband! And I don't believe your in the hlth care field unless you are an orderly that pushes wheel chairs! medical professionals don't say the things U do due to ethics!
I'm a diabetic on a medtronc pump and I am an ems provider. Whomever is talking about giving D50 for ketones and kussmals needs to seriously study their book before treating any patient. Damn!
Next time you need to call 911 for a paramedic to give D50 especially if you are noticing Kussmal Respirations. Paramedics are able to give medication that will help the patient almost instantly. The thing about having a person drink something espically when they are not with it can cause complications that could potentially make the pt. vomit and maybe aspirate. Need to be careful! Just call 911 thats what we are here for. Great story! Glad wife is ok
I've read about Kussmaul's breathing but never seen it. Can u act it out. The breathing blows off hco3- alkalizing the acidic blood. The blood is acidic due to the ketones.
Ketones are in the urine. Diabetic ketoacidosis will have a acidic blood ph. To counteract this and maintain homeostasis, your respiratory drive kicks into overdrive(hyperventilation). This is respiratory alkalosis. Metabolic acid+ reaspiratory alk= homeostasis for time
@TILLEYJS Ketones are also present in the blood stream..it is a by product of the body metabolizing its own fat when not enough glucose is present..leading to metabolic acidosis.
Ive hit a bottom of 52 and it was no fun. I started going back into "the tunnel" as I call it and my husband was stark white, so I can only imagine what your wife ( and you for that matter) was going through. It's a scary thing. Glad everything panned out well.
WOW!!! You are actually married? You mean someone out there can bare to spend any amount of time with you...... As for watching your 'videos' what do you expect when you title it as though it is parts of the documentary. But alas it is of some fat, cold hearted piece of dirt. You are really a sorry excuse for a human being. As for your wife (who I am sure is lovely) am glad it all turned out for the best, now maybe she can re- evaluate the decision she made to marry a poor excuse of a husband.
Well what can I say........ there is many known cases where the abused wife turns nasty and does the good deed against her abuser..... so there is always hope
I'm glad that she is ok, My aunt is diabetic and she did the same thing (started acting really wierd). They gave her orange Juice and in ten minutes she was fine. She now has a device now that is hooked to her side and tells her when she is getting to low on sugar. Good luck to you and your wife.
I understand if you want to share your wides near death experience, but you act so highly of it, that you sound so insincere, I hope your wife feels better and that it doesn't happen again, but when you say that Farrah Fawcett dying has nothing to do with you, then your wife's near death experience has nothing to do with us.
After seeing your video response to Farrah Fawcett's battle with cancer, I was inclined to leave a heartless comment for your "My wife almost died!!" video (just so you could see how it feels to be treated with such a lack of compassion)... but then I realized that I would be sinking to your level. Therefore, I will not leave such a comment. Instead, I will say (for the sake of your wife) that I'm glad she survived and hope that she doesn't have to go through another event such as this.
you dont care about anybody anyway whats the difference.. so dont expect anyone to care about you or your wife...but i tell you this even if you do not believe there will be instances or situations that you will call on GOD...maybe not now but that time will come.. anyway have a blessed day.. God Bless you...
GOD IS ABOVE ALL THESE PEOPLE AND GOD IS THE ONLY ONE THAT IS IN CONTROL SO YOU JUST WAIT AND SEE.. SOMETIME NOT far from today YOU WILL REALIZE things I HOPE ITS NOT TOO LATE. i will still continue to pray FOR YOU.. I PITY YOU , YOUR WIFE AND ALL THAT IS CONNECTED IN YOUR LIFE...BAD SEED BAD -FRUIT... NO GOD NO FEAR. NO HOPE.. NO LIFE..NO BLESSING..MISERY. HATRED..AND ALL NEGATIVITY WILL SURROUND YOU AND ENDING??? REALLY BAD..BUT NO MATTER HOW YOU ARE GOD LOVES YOU...
Where to start with this? Hmm, "NO GOD NO FEAR" is the only thing you got right. Don't believe in a God, then you will have no illegitimate fear. "GOD IS IN CONTROL", well, if he is then you can't say you have free will. If your God is in control, then I will go to hell just like he intended. "GOD LOVES YOU", see previous statement to see how ridiculous this statement is. In closing, I was "saved and baptized", so keep all that bullshit to yourself. I have heard it all before.
it means if you DO NOT HAVE GOD YOU HAVE NO FEAR of saying things or doing things..you are not GOD FEARING.. just like WHAT YOU ARE RIGHT NOW..VERY BRAVE ACTING LIKE GOD..LIKE YOU CAN DO ANYTHING WITHOUT GOD...that will only be for a while.. i am 500% sure then when things go out of your control you WILL CALL ON GOD...YOU WILL NOT AND WILL NEVER BE IN CONTROL OF EVERYTHING IN LIFE.
You are projecting(what you would do) your assumption onto me. Also, I noticed you didn't refute any of my arguments. Spouting my opinion on youtube makes me a god? WTF?
She is just lucky that we are both in healthcare and I knew how to deal with. She said it would be a great way to die. She doesn't remember any of it. She usually catches it(glucose), when it drops. She just came in off of a 12 hour shift and was too tired, I suppose. This was the worst incident she has had in the 6 years we have been together.
@ rolfen: Not going to tell you. She is in the medical field. That's all you get :P
@ jackinla8: Type 1
@ omofmom: It wasn't the pump. It was a disposable reservoir that goes into the pump. Faulty spring, I think.
@ zachb657: Thanks for watching.
