I LOVE the red lights on this thing. It's like a Star Trek console thingy. I also like the synth in Running Up That Hill, but maybe that's a Fairlight, I don't know. What's more cool is how you can get this and more for a few thousand dollars with a Mac and some software.
What year was this vinal demo made? There's a rumor that the whole intro to "Beat It" was stolen from this demo. I thought that one of the guies from Toto helped program that sound...
Here's an interesting fact - this synthesizer, particularly the sound featured at 3:30, is featured heavily in David Shire's brilliant score to the 1984 film "2010: The Year We Make Contact."
@p0531d0n Actually, I now suspect that the sound I was originally thinking of was actually generated on a Yamaha DX1. However, the Synclavier does nevertheless feature heavily in the "2010" soundtrack, mainly in the form of the sound at 1:18.
Regarding the sound at 3:30 that started the whole conversation, I found that Tangerine Dream also used it in their soundtrack to "The Keep" - in fact the synth itself features heavily there as well.
i love the "beat it" FM synth tune XD the people who worked with Michael Jackson do a realy good usage of the drum sound of this synth sampler, also Frank Zappa and Didier Lockwood, some sound on the demo have the sound of the Prophet V synth especialy the THX kind of effect.
I remember seeing on a shop, an ilio released Akai CD rom of the sound of Synclavier but i cannot found it now.
I have the blue vinyl but never played while I have a very huge collection of Synclavier gears.I also collect Sync-related music and I'm very disappointed with the most.Everybody just thought they are allowed to produce any cheap timbres and tunes on the Synclav just because the expensiveness of the machine will cover everything. So the results were very poor most of the times.I'd even critisize the biggest users and I rarely heard anything valuable on Synclav even if I like the machine.
@roncstelep Yes, some people only had the money to buy a Synclavier...but not enough talent to use it effectively. Did I hear someone say "Ralph Siegel"?

@Scifimaster92 And the exact same sound was also used by Michael Jackson in Beat It... it actually starts with that.

@p0531d0n Exactly. And I've since learned that it was used by Tangerine Dream for the track "Kiew Mission" on their album "Exit."
