You want a really good Robin Hood Tv show, check out Robin Of Sherwood, by far the best version of the character. It has swashbuckling, darkness, and a kind of "mythycal" to it combinig history with fairy tales yet still being serious but in a good way. As for the Scott movie, I watched it recently and I really liked it. It wasn't that much of a depresing flick .I think Robin Hood can be told in well in both a fun and serious way, as long as you stay true to the character.
PERSONALLY I think they could do both. Let me sound off. ONE of the reasons The 'new' Robin Hood (R.Scott) did not work is b/c he was waaaay to old. I mean At the OLDEST Robin should be mid thirties &even THATS too old according to canon. Robin DIED at a YOUNG AGE. He was like poisoned or hit by an arrow or something. But he died YOUNG. See Film Master Adam J's review of both movies. So they it could be swashbuckling & end as kind of an tragedy.I think U could have BOTH vibes & make it epic.
@jimkoenig400 Except everyone has been doing it like that. You apparently dont know original fairytales. You would be suprised how diffrent they were from Disney movies and childrens books. So, shut the fuck up.
@jimkoenig400 check out my comment. I tried to point out that aspects of tragedy did plague Robin Hood and that he died tragically at a young age. And according to legend he fired 1of his last arrows out the window of his death bed room and ordered Lil John that where it landed he would be buried. So how did you like Prince of Theives? It was not 'canonical' but it worked and to ME @least that was 'swashbuckling' enough. I mean he was swinging from chandeleres and stuff! lol. So what is ur take?
the old robin hood movies are fun and awesome but the new robin hood movie with russell crowe and man it will suck so bad that it will get bad reviews
Speaking of stuff that we all miss I kind of miss the greek mythology movies like Clash of the Titans and Jason and the Argonaughts. And I am glad the new clash of the titans doesn't look dark and depressing, instead it looks like a fun over the top action flick (also the director is the director of the Incredible Hulk which I think was a very good idea).
but it was just a teaser so you really don't know how it will turn out... oh and the only part that I didn't like in prince of theives was the villian.... I like the actor but it was to much over the top
Well, if you want to be super technical, no, because people come in mutliple forms of color, and we are all part of the human race, and there cannot be individiual races within a single race.
Now if you wish to go with the flow of society, yes. White, Black, Asian, Hispanic and that's it.
Most Middle Eastern people who speak with an Arabic dialect are either Asian or African, so they fit in, but just as a sub group. As for Native Americans, they are also a sub group of Asians. Actually, anyone who is Indian is Asian.
So, as I mentioned before, it's really just the 4 main groups, who have many mixtures and sub groups.
The reason why this recent Robin Hood looks the way it looks is cause it's being directed by Ridley Scott.
I do agree completely with what you said here, though. I think the only bit I'd argue against was the mentioning of Oliver Stone's "Alexander," but that's not for right now.
Damn you! I went to go see the trailer because of this video, and now Im all annoyed and crap. It looks like they took Gladiator and put a Middle Ages look on it.
I like realistic films (i.e. The Dark Knight), but I think it should be done with wit and humor. There's nothing wrong with doing something in the realm of realism as long as it's a fun movie. Basically, it needs to take itself seriously but realize what it is at the same time. It's a real fine line to try and be fun without being campy. Another example of doing it right could be Superman: The Movie IMO.
Oh, well I was forced to. Took a Greek and Roman course a while back. It's manditory text. Even so, it was a good read, and a fun course. You should give it a try if you're interested.
A agree. Errol Flynn IS Robin Hood.

Stardust and the Pirates movies were lame. While Troy, Gladiator, LOTR (for the most part), and this Robin Hood were awesome.

I personally think the Rusell Crowe movie sucked. Flynn was alright, but Kevin Costner was by far my favorite. But Crowe ruined the fuck out of it.

I do think the Errol Flyn Robin Hood was the best. The new one is not too bad though.

HOLD
the guy that played the Sherrif of Nottingham in the TV series was epic.
he was good
If we got a fun cross between him and alan rickman vs a witty (almost spider man-esk) robin hood. I'd be real happy.
we're never going to get it, but i'd love it!

So if someone is prejudice (probably not the right word, but you get the idea) against a specific nationality, if it isn't racism what is it?
