Actually the first time I was aware of Nesmith's music post Monkees was this performance on Austin City Limits. Got me intrigued and I'm glad I explored his older stuff - he's a very unique artist!
I too love Michael Nesmith, and I like his style just the way it is. I think he really is that mellow, and while I agree generally with the concept of don't talk it, sing it, Mike is so comfortable in his own skin ... that it just works! Love it
I recall, vividly, watching this when it first aired back in 1993. Never recorded it -- always regretted it. Now, thanks to you, I get to see/hear it again. THANK YOU!
Thanks for posting this. I remember watching this episode of ACL thinking why don't more people realize what a great songwriter and performer this guy is? He's so much more than a former member of the The Monkees. Seeing this back in the early '90s made me go out and buy his cd "Tropical Campfires" which is great, as is so much of Mike's work.
If you like John Jorgenson, check out the Desert Rose Band. He's quite the talented guitarist with a fabulous style that is uniquely his. Thank you for this great post. Why can't any Tropical Campfires music be posted.
I first heard this song on the radio traveling through Dallas in 1977. The original recording is much better than this. It has remained one of my favorite songs from that first broadcast. I had no idea who Michael Nesmith was before that song, but I promise I've known the name since.
It's great to see Red Rhodes, but a sad reminder of what we have missed since he passed away. I saw Mike during perform at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta and it was the best concert I ever attended.
It's a real treat to watch Michael perform this song live. He has so much talent and was always overlooked for many ridiculous reasons! Thanks for the post....Now, the song's stuck in my head (again). Wanna go to Rio.

LOVE Nez but I wish he wouldn't do that talk/singing thing he does and just sing the song.
