I think I'm in a very similar situation to you. All self study, so its cool to hear someone else talking about these things..makes me feel more confident about what I'm thinking it means

^_^ volitional + to suru :D I thought it means to try to do something.
Mainichi nihongo o benkyou shiyou to suru I try to study japanese everyday.
Rainen nihon e ikou to omou :D I'm thinking of going to Japan next year
Maybe there is also anothe way of saying it.
Doing an action with the intention in mind :D nice way of saying it = try :D
te miru = to try something and see the result that would be the difference.
Maybe I am wrong myself, ganbarimashou~
