Successfully, despite its pervasive sound tracks inordinately sentimental (mawkish), the film veers away from the melodramatic pitch that typifies the novel genre in which Susann excelled and had helped re-define; she had singularly swept away the competition in the late 1960s and early 70s with sales through the roof, luring-in the average American housewives dollars, with her bevy of rich depictions + soft-white underbelly of what many came to image + as Americas affluent life-styles.
