As a 10 yr old kid when this song came out I always pictured a "Ceylon Warrior" from Battlestar Galactica making the announcements during this song :0 }
Let's just say I've been learning about Russia from 1881-1953 in History so this song may have cropped up 1 or 200000000000000 times :L <3 it sooooooooo much! :D
My mother owned a copy of the LP of this song.. As a kid this song used to scare me to death would run from the room when it was played... It was years later when my dad told me that I was my middle name Nickolas was in honor of Czar Nickolas II who's wife is referenced in "Rasputin" so I have come to really like it now as an adult.. Go figure..
Love it! I had the original tape in Pakistan, but had to buy it after a long wait when it became available on iTunes... I even learned to play Rasputin on my Casio keyboards. Didn't know the gent had died. RIP. Great fun, great music even 33 years later. Thank you.
I was a teenager in the 1970's and I remember Boney M, they had many hit songs back then. They were very famous in Germany and UK. They took a trip to the Soviet Union in 1977 or 1978 and the "Soviets" had entered musically into the 1970's with the help of Boney M (lol). I liked them 30+ years ago, I still like them now. Talent like this we don't see it nowdays.
I doubt that there is anyone in Europe in age between 35-50 who does not have story like that. We all were bite by Boney M bug! It was great time!! I was 12, my parents we playing that music on all parties (and Queen, Sweet, Slade etc)! I would give anything to get back at least for while...
Im 36 and I remember listening to my parent's record of Boney M. I thought the record cover was so cool too and the drums are awesome in this son. I still love it
I was 13 years old when a friend of mine showed me this record! I remember listening to it on his awesome stereo at the time the drums and effects are so cool its still a classic. Now I'm 41 and it still gives me chills listening to it and Ra Ra Rasputin!!!
Oh, and the voice for the spaceship conductor on the album?
If it sounds familiar, the album was produced the VERY SAME MONTH that the pilot to the original Battlestar Galactica series came out. It appears that the very same kind of synthesizer modified voice was independantly come up with by Boney M and the producers of Galactica. Spooky!
When this first came out,i had a pinto with mindblower speakers and this sounded so damn good, everytime i listen to it now it has to be loud or not at all lol
Thanks this is great. my dad had this on the LP when I was a kid. We listened to it all the time and it sounds great on a good system. Dad is gone now so memories like these are all that is left. Again thanks.
@widowson32 Wow, same story here. We used to dance around the living room in circles, Dad would hold my sister on his sholders... one of my greatest memories of him.
Thanks so much for putting this up. It isn't complete, though: the NFtV part is missing the 2nd half where a UFO has a near miss and the starship Boney M arrives at Venus. Great anyway.
It was huge in its day..........guess i'm showing my age!!!!Not bad for a group made up of 1 singer,2 models,a dancer and a producer who did it all!!!!
@rjskoko Nope - it's a vocoder. It's encoding the output carrier with the band data from the modulator. Fuzz/Flanger/Reverb won't sound like that. It may have Flanger on it, but it's a vocoder.
@Darnsmell Oh m,y god i totally agree.Back in the day i used to listen to this full blast with mind blower speakers in the back of my car.Still to this day i have to listen to it LOUD or i feel like im in church .RIP Bobby
The full version of "Nightflight"/"Rasputin" is around 14 minutes long, and only available on the 1st LP pressing. "Nightflight" got a LOT cut out of it on the CD version.
I guess I can see their point... it's just basically an intro to the album, but it was originally 8 minutes long.
Yep. Boney M took the drums from "Dance With The Devil" (though I think Nightflight's rendition sounds cooler), and Right Said Fred took the melody for "I'm Too Sexy".

For a crap group this is a brilliant tune, a bit like progressive rock mixed with Cozy Powel.
The Main singer was ok.

Check out Cozy Powell doing Dance with with the Devil.
Sounds very similar to Nightflight to Venus don't you think ?
BIOCIDEXYZ 2 years ago
Yep. Boney M took the drums from "Dance With The Devil" (though I think Nightflight's rendition sounds cooler), and Right Said Fred took the melody for "I'm Too Sexy".
NyeTunes 2 years ago
not just the drums guitar as well, if you look up the rasputin 12" mix it's the same as this without the vocal and keyboard on nightflight to venus
davekm43 2 years ago
There was a legal action, at the time, over it.
I believe it was settled, out of court, in Cozy Powell's favour.
