  • i bet he's an ace at pool.

  • i have a quite large tattoo on my back.. but this must be so painful.. makes me sick :D .. its very beautiful.. wish i could meet a tattoo master that would be half of mr. horiyoshi .. it has sence..

  • this tattooing must be very tiring for the tattoist

  • the best tiger tattoo i've ever seen

  • this truly is a master of the tattoo world

i plan to get my black panther done by him..it would be a GREAT honor for him tattoo my back.....i truly appreciate such a technique that requires years of practice to perfect it....truly respected....probably be the only black girl in the shop thought lol..but thats fine..gotta respect the father o it

  • is that ticking sound coming frm the needles going in/out of the skin or the stick rubbing against the glove?

  • its a very big difference between wauburi and new way of tattoo.

  • I want you to tatoo me master

  • cany anyone explain to me different categories within tattooing?

  • @slop123456789 Which categories? You mean the different type of designs (i.e. New School and Traditional) or are you referring to tattoo methods (i.e. tengu tapping, machine, etc.)?

  • @masterchaosdemon i mean the type of designs. i'm interested in getting a tattoo but i haven't really found anything that particularly enspires me or i identify with.

  • @slop123456789 I would just look up different types on google if I were you and see which one's you're interested in. There's a myriad of designs you can find.

  • I need to get this man to do my next piece soon, I've always since the idea of tattoos, wanted the traditional style such as this master's work.

  • @HypermaxZ he's only finishing their actual clients tattoos, not taking new ones.

  • traditionally totoo

  • I remember watching a vid this process a few years back and just thinking how utterly amazing this whole process is. How can he do THAT with just some needles on a stick?! It's insane!!! But then if u look at all the different ancient tattooing styles it's pretty amazing how they could do these elaborate designs with the primative tools they had available.

  • @shihiko11210 how can you get anymore primitive than this method? other than the inks used

  • fuking wow. mad talent and detail is like no other!@!

  • dammmm.. i just saw a legend at work

  • I have hyper-pigmentation of the skin. I wonder how it would affect the outcome of a tattoo if I did one.

  • Damn, his shading is just about as good as it gets.

  • his finger is missing because he was a yakuza at a young age but quit to be a tattoo artist

  • pure magic!

  • If someone misses a part of their finger its because they did something to someone (not necessary bad) but that someone thinks it is disrespectful or he did not like the way you treated him (various reasons) so the finger gets cut off and you give that, rather present that to the person you want to apologize it to. I'm not sure if it applies to all though. Just from what I know.

  • Horiyoshi's meticulous attention to detailing, coloring, and stylization is a real visual treat. The process itself is so fascinating to watch. It looks intense and painful as hell, but I'm sure that is secondary to having a master's imprint on one's flesh. Dazzling work.

  • "soguiii desu kawaiii""jusuu desu"

  • @damakiko1223 I'd have to disagree these tattoo's are underworld and a way for people to become gangsters. If you come to Japan don't get one as people will shun you thinking you're a gangster or criminal.

  • Horiyoshi the 3rd an incredible honor to be tattooed by, one of the few that can hand poke with such brilliance

  • WTF? yellow on yellow? sure, makes sence to me...

  • @bubbsgo hahhhahha

  • the tattoo artist is missing part of his left index finger

  • @rockyeagle92 "Yakuza"

  • he sure is the best!

  • Fuck the pain! look at the final piece of art! I want that on me haha

  • Daaamn duuude this is amazing...I would not think twice about getting a tattoo like that...if I only I had the money

  • i want a tattoo this way and the hawaiian way

  • anyboddy can tell me what is the difference betwean horimono and horiyoshi?

  • @tipsy700 horiyoshi is the the name of the artist

  • @tipsy700 Horiyoshi is the honorific title of the tattooist. Horimono (or Irezumi) is this particular japanese traditional tattoo that suits the full body.

  • omg!..look how big that shyt is.

i dont think i could do it

  • that is intense..horiyoshi is a master

  • in japan only Yakuza obtain traditional tatoo in their body.

so you want to join Yakuza, let's get it

  • @yousuke5300 That use to be so, but now it is more common to get tattoos like this in japan and doesnt necessarily mean that you are yakuza.. plus the yakuza would get full body tattoos, not just backpieces :)

  • wow it seems like he is missing the spot but he's not fucking amazing shit what that stick can do!

  • people need to understand there is no tiger in japan too ^^ im sorry

  • Shit that fucking sound.... skin piercing.. Amazing work I would love to get a piece done by him. Im sure its extremely expensive.

  • jesus H christ....this guys is a little better than Jon sutton.

  • DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM! Hook me up!!

  • I was wondering how long does it takes for him to finish this masterpiece?

  • @InspectorDante

it take years to finish a full body suit

  • it is said he does is outlines with tattoo machine but all the rest tebori style , and for those claming he does everything tebori , i have seen pictures of him using a machine

  • i take it he builds up the outline, masterpiece

  • fucking Yakuza haha

  • Beautiful

  • is this guy in japan? I want to get a tat from him

  • Don''t think he's tattooing anymore. Rumour has it that he got cancer and he's pretty old too. His soon Horiyoshi IV will be taking over his bussines for what I know. But yeah, Horiyoshi is a very skilled tattoo artist who only does traditional japanese tattoos ;)

  • @Stonkish is his son on the same level as him?

  • @cmonutube No I don't think so but Horiyoshi III learned from his father so his work will continue with his son, Horiyoshi IV. It's a legacy.

  • Modern tattoo methods would never get colors as amazing as irezumi. Not to mention the traditional artwork. It's a pity irezumi is so infamous in Japan.

  • Because of the Yakuza?

  • Gah, just think of working a whole day with tattooing people like that, your thumb must get sore even with the glove on.

  • incredible tiger irizumi with real presence and power to it just like a tiger should and not just a static picture, has Horiyoshi really stopped using the traditional method? is this because he has some kinda problem with his hands ?.

  • shiiiittt that looks like pain, very impressive though. awesome work

  • badass

  • SUGOI DESU NE!!!

  • That is beautiful. Must be hella painful, but very much worth it.

  • @manekinava ive heard its not as painful as with a gun. but ive only had machine done tattoos not this style so i dont know

  • Excellent work by a real master Tattoo Artist.

  • I would love to get Irezumi done by Horiyoshi!!!

  • its a shame he stop using this amazing method

  • that became I gladly learning .

  • RESPECT!!!!!

  • awesome

  • Horiyoshi tatoos are awesome but that must be too painfull...

  • I want one of those but first off Im not old ebough and secondly I am bad at taking pain so ummm I wont get one

  • absolutely amazing!!!

  • People need to understand that this Man is currently the best tattoo artists in the world.

  • He's got some mad skills.

  • he is a verry good tattoo artist , but you can't say he's the best because there are so many styles of tattoos and every tattooartist even has their own style of tattooing and designing , there are thousands of japanese tattooartist and evey one of them is different the only thing is some people are better than others , but in my opinion , horiyoshi is deffinitly in my top 10 of japanese tattoo artists , but not at first place ....

  • @sicksadpeter That´s debatable!!!!!!

  • @sicksadpeter only the best horimono artist, not the best all through out

  • Dang to paint in a tattoo, they literally have to stab you with a Yellow pin?

  • the yellow is the ink. So the color changes from time to time.

  • aweosme :D

  • how long and how much did this cost & take? does anyone kno?

  • They can take 3 to 10 years and cost $30,000 US.

  • a tattoo like this may take a year.. even less if the sesions a very often.. and the prices can be like from 5 to 10 grands...

these are pretty cool jobs... real art.. handmade art

    they're not that horrifying expensive..

it doesn't even take that long ajaben says.. those are the full suit jobs

  • respect from Poland

  • viva POLSKA !! Respect from Miami

  • yo no entiendo de esto jeje.. pero... es un tatuaje de verdad? xke parece un pincel normal y corriente

  • Si pero usan un palo con muchas abujas endeves que una maquina.

(perdon espanol no es me primer idioma)

  • respect...

  • WOW! awesome work! BRAVO!

  • SO BEAUFUL!!!

  • Comment removed

  • every horiyoshi has a successor, right? who is his successor now?

  • horitomo

  • He has three succsessors. There is Horitomo in the US I belive and Horikitsune in Europe. I think its his son who takes his place in asia. I hope to get an appointment with Horikitsune in Eu. Horiyoshi doesnt take any more customers, he only finishes the ones he already has. My dream was to be tattooed by Horiyoshi.

  • q belleza!!!!! sin palabras solo q esto si es ARTE!!!!

  • unfortunately, he's retired now so he doesn't do any more tattoos..:(

  • yoriyoshi does all his outline with a machine and everything else by hand now hes pretty much using a machine for everything unless you ask him to do it by hand " like the video is showing "

  • unbelievable!!!!!!!!!

    master yoshihito at his best!!!!

the irezumi at it's maximum expresion!!!!!!!

  • Omg! That tattoo is fucking beautiful! I'm in love.

  • I don't like totoos but this one it's BEAUTIFUL

  • Cazzo, impressionante! (in senso positivo)

  • tattoo is teched out... looks dope... still wondering how he outlined the piece using the stick method? outline is really clean... he had to use the gun for it.

  • these days he does use a gun for the outline, basicaly just due to his age

  • dude..this is tradtional japs tat, so they dont use guns k?

  • its machine.

    not gun.

  • Word. To call one's mother a 'whore' is a lesser crime than to call the sacred instrument of tattooing a 'gun

  • hmm what could his lack of an index finger possibly indicate....

jk this is absolutely phenomenal and he has my utmost respect

  • lot of pain and time if you get tattoed the old way..Looks great though!!!

    nice vid

  • why dosent he bleed?

  • The points of the stick only go just under the epidermal layer of skin. Blood is stored deeper.

  • this is the best way to get a tattoo! respect!

  • does anyone know of any videos where there is a closeup of someone doing outlines with this particular style? doesnt have to be horiyoshi, im just interested to see how u can get such fine and solid lines with traditional japanese style

  • When the guy dies they will have to take the skin off his back and hang it on the wall!

  • wow i love the art of the old school tattooing methods

  • Hi limpdork.

Do you have contact details for Horiyoshi?

I will be in Japan and it would be great to meet him.

I can't find any on his website.

Also do you have any pics of what you got done by Horitomo and Horiyoshi III, or even anything by Horitaka?

I can give an email address.

    Much appreciated.

  • the master!!!!!!

  • Man! This is really good work!!..

  • Semplicemente un grande!

  • Such amazing work. I adore this kind of tattooing.

  • I bet that hurts ^-^

  • the best artist!!!

  • i have a few tattoos myself and i know they hurt eaither way but ive always wondered if the pain is worse this way then a tattoo gun

  • I had a backpiece done by Horiyoshi using both machine and tebori (hand poking) and one didn't seem to hurt more or less than the other (they both hurt like hell).

The thing I had to get used to is not hearing the buzz of the machine, but you can hear the needles going in and out of your skin. Sounds like you're being tenderized...

  • thats insane dude

how much did you pay for it?

  • I don't even know. It spanned something like 3 or 4 years because I could only go on the weekends so it ended up being once or twice a month. It was a lot, but less than some artists charge in the states and worth every penny (yenny?).

  • how did you contact him?

  • A friend of a friend of a friend. We ended up going to dinner with him one night an he asked for me. I think you can go to his web site, though I know his health is not so great now, so I don't know if he's still tattooing. His main apprentice, Horitomo, was tattooing right next to him when I was getting tattooed. He is amazing. I ended up getting a sleeve by him after my back piece. He's lives and works in San Jose now at State of Grace tattoo. Incredible artists as well.

  • Excellent !the man is amazeing and a tattoo legend/icon

  • amazing artwork, i cant believe horiyoshi makes it up on the spot! true artist.

  • yeah I heard that he doesn't

ever have a design he just tattoos it

    he's my fucking inspiration !

  • That´s just amazing...it´s simply unbelievable, how he does it with that perfection !!!

    A true artist...

  • holy crap that is amazing!

  • Amazing i'd love to have tattoo done this way!

  • i have been tattood like this... a koi fishh on my arm... it does hurt but i would say that the pain is similar to that of a machine

  • beutifull

  • it must be a blessing of the lord to be able to createa tatoo like this!

  • that is unbelievably good. do u reckon the guy being tattood is a yakuza?

  • I would have to say probably. Just based on the design of the tattoo and the the tradition way that he is having it done, I think it's a good possibility.

The tattoo itself is so beautiful, but the sound the stick made as it pierced the skin just made me cringe. I love tattoos and I have a few, but I could never imagine getting tattooed that way.

  • these style of tattoos rele r beautiful tho. i wud absolutely luv some dun in this style.

  • Horiyoshi III really live up to his name and reputation. He is really a legend among all the worlds tattoists. Too bad he got cancer

:( Yeah that's really painfull and takes much much much much longer to do it than using a machine. So all of you that thinks a machine hurts really bad.. try this ;)

  • menudo monstruo tatuandoooo

  • WOW That looked painful.

Love that tattoo and he was Very Brave,It must have taken MANY hours to do

  • true madness! i would remortgage my house for a tatt off this guy!

  • was that blood?

  • haha strangely I love the sound of the needle going into the skin. weird, huh?

  • amazing..true art!

  • A privilege to see H3 in action. Thanx to the client as well.

  • there will always be a unnerving noise associated with tattooing

  • hurts like the devil

  • actually they tell me this technique hurts less then electronic needles..

  • this is art.. plain and simple...

  • i love the sound of the needles pricking through the skin! :D

  • that is a work of art

  • how the hell is that real

    i dont get it

    looks mad

  • that sounds so painful.

  • makes me want to go to japan to have one...

  • Horiyoshi 3rd is the most famous and No.1 tattoo artist in Japan.
