  • Look Kids, Real Instruments!

  • nice mutton chops, john...he looks like the wolfman

  • I always notice that Paul's bass lines were so much better when he is not singing lead. This may be the best Beatles song for bass. Everybodys Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey has great bass lines also.

  • First session that John brought Yoko to. In many ways, this was the peak of the Beatles as it all started going down from here. Look at how together Paul and John were. You'd be hard pressed to find another video with this much unity again. I don't think Yoko broke up the Beatles, but I think her presence was a factor that started to break apart the unity of John and Paul and started putting some chinks in the Beatles armor. Always appreciate this video because of the history behind it.

  • gimmie more I love it!!!!!

  • Ha, Ringo was the big man walking in the park!

  • Woof! Awesome and under-rated tune by the "Fab-Four"!!!!!

  • hey bulldog - godlubb yeh, god loves ye.. record it n play it backwards !

  • A terrific and less well known Beatles song....very cleverly written....great rhythm as usual. John's lyrics resonate.......

  • Deadliest bassline in the outro. 2:33

  • i love the beatles so much that i can say stuff a page long

  • Thumbs up for Paul's random howling.

  • If you enjoy this, you have to read Martin Rots' new book - The Beatles: Behind Closed Doors - so many great stories you have never heard before... THeWoodstockConspiracy . com

  • One can only imagine how The Beatles might have evolved in their music before they self destructed. I think they were making their best music at the end of their time together. I love Hey Bulldog because it is just a rough and mean song. I still remember buying the soundtrack back in the seventies and listening to the songs one side 1 and then the creepy George Martin instrumentals on side 2.

  • the Beatles were and always be the measuring stick for great music.

  • Still listening ...

  • i got here because mi little brother (11 years) told me to... lol how cool is he? haha

  • Probably The Beatles' most underrated song.

  • I love this song!!!!

  • A 1968 song that sound like the 90's Britpop!

  • on to page 2@ 0:24!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ringo on his drums thinking yup, we're awsome alright

  • This was my first Beatles song that I heard, and I love it! :D

  • i'm so glad someone caught them in the studio; this captures what i've always loved about the beatles, their alive-ness, their sense of exuberance, joy, mixed with insane invention. like a perfect bouquet to the world, saying "here, i made this for you." sigh.

  • this song kicks ass

  • whoever says they're pop and elevator music is tone deaf (ahem michael stipe). beatles from 66-69 will never ever be touched musically ever.

  • @nysdgiants As much as I love REM musically, I always thought Stipe's comments regarding The Beatles to be ridiculous. He states Big Star as an REM influence, and they were definitely influenced by The Beatles.

  • John Lennon sang bulldog, when Paul had written bull frog.Hell bullfrog is mentioned in the first verse still, but when it came time for the chorus bulldog was uttered instead.Being the geniuses they were they kept rolling, and the rest is history! That is why they are laughing and acting so silly at the end of this tune.Every song is amazing.EVERY SONG!Hard to fathom aint it

  • One of my favorites and underrated, I think. Love the bass! It's also hilarious!

  • Years ago I read that George played the Bass on this song. Can any fellow Beatle nerd shed some light on this?

  • @sawfish111 I think you have been mislead. Paul wrote the bassline and therefore played it. When george herd john play what he wanted to hear george play, he immidatly masterd the riff.

    I know, its confusing.

  • Jesus Christ these guys are such fucking geniuses it's fucking insane.

  • im lonely so i talk to john in my dreams.

must talk to him SOME way right?

  • must hear this frequently--too cool--thank you brother beatles

  • R.I.P John

  • This song was radical for the time. The suits wanted more She Loves You but John was in his drug garden. None of us really liked this sound at the time, we wanted that same smooth sound. It took us a long time to get used to it. Thank you, John.

  • I dislike every post asking for likes just because

  • 0:48 John with his casino, pick guard removed but prior to being sanded down.

  • .....And they were just starting...to turn the rest of the world on!

  • The reason I love this song is cause they always sounded like they were having fun.

  • George's face at 2:53 - it looks like he's wondering what the hell is going on.

  • @CrispyRingo At 2:53 you can Clearly see George's Dissatasfaction with Lennon and McCartney

  • Oh, i love and always loved this great song! Man, it rocks!

  • Damn! Paul's bass line is fucken killer on this one!

  • @Onemanband87 Yes! This is one of my favorite bass lines ever.

  • RIP George and John man.

  • alkjrbhskthvbslkmndxkyh!

would i give everything just to be in that studio.

with them performing of course :(

  • Im 10 and i think this is AMAZING!

  • Can any fellow Beatles nerds answer this: I always thought that this was one of the songs in which George didn't play lead, though I heard different theories as to whether it was John or Paul. But Geoff Emerick reckons it was George, and he seems pretty thorough in his recollections (though there are a couple of tiny things he gets wrong). The video would have you believe it was George, but that means nothing; directors and cameramen are always getting these things wrong. Anyone know for sure?

  • @sagnyc John was definatly on piano

  • What a great song! Definitely one of my favorites- although- too many to list so they are all my favorites.

  • Wait... Which one is Elvis?

  • @Rhoderluxel The one with the glasses. lol

  • Brilliant song/video

  • 0:15

  • at 1:34, "big man," and then, "yeah?" if you listen, you hear this.

  • I don't even have "hey Jude" in my favorites.

  • ...standing in the rain...........fuking amazing, we love u

  • AT 2:50 George is like "What the hell are they doing now?"

  • At 2:50 George is like "What the hell are they dong now"?

  • Just Geniuses.

  • Hey Paul, nice tank top.

  • Hey Jude is a great song but I'm so sick of hearing it & Let It Be as well. Give me Hey Bulldog, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Baby You're a Rich Man. These are waaay better than a lot of Paul's stuff!

  • Fuck Hey Jude!

  • @ZenMaster1992 er... no

  • @ZenMaster1992 how about no

  • 2:53 George Harrison is, like, "WTF?"

  • & Across the Universe was shelved until it was 1st released on the World Wildlife Fund lp & that's when the bird effects were added. Spector took it & did what Paul does good, turned it into a bloody commercial 'hit'. I like the orig. & the version on the "Let It Be...Naked" lp/cd.

  • John didn't think Across the Universe was yet 'complete'. & he liked 'Inner Light' as a worthy B-side. John specifically wrote Bulldog for the Yellow Sub movie. I never get tired of hearing this! One of my all-time faves! A very underrated song!

  • DavidGigg Ending the discussion. You are completely right. " Lady Madonna" was already completed, but -- Lennon wanted "Hey Bulldog" as single instead. (Geoff Emerick´s book page 223).

  • u can talk to me

  • We going 2 do it one more time? UK 4 Life Baby you can talk 2 me? Sheep Dog in the rain? Think you know me hahahahahaaha

  • This was a very underrated Lennon song, one of my favorites. It was one of his "fun-with-words" songs, like "I Am The Walrus", which are timeless in appeal.

With Beatles in mind, I've posted the video, "40 years of history in 3 minutes", which is a music video containing the Beatles' rooftop performance, historical events over the last 40 years and 8mm film antics from the period, all cut tightly to GET BACK and GLASS ONION. Hope you enjoy!

  • strangecluesinfriday Thank you, at last somebody who is well informed. You are 100 % right. Of the 52 songs 1962-1965, up included Yesterday, Lennon had composed, or was the primary composer, of 27 songs, and co-composer of 10. McCartney had 11. But nobody knew. When Yesterday was released 1965, George Martin and McCartney did the coup of the century! They made people for many many years believe that McCartney was the Beatles composer. It´s strange, nobody writes about it.

  • locaso

    como siempre

I love England or United Kingdom

  • george looks so annoyed at the end!

  • whatswithgus No, it´s not McCartney starting the barking, it´s Lennon. Wikipedia has no authority for it´s statement.

This is the first rap song, ackording to my point of view. If there is something good-new-special in the Beatles, and the establishment is unsure ---- then they always guess it´s McCartney.

  • According to Wikipedia, "During the recording, Paul McCartney started to bark without warning. The next lines, initially written as "Hey bullfrog", were changed mid-song to "Hey bulldog", which would become the song's title."

OK, I can understand that. What I don't understand is why Paul suddenly started barking. Has anyone ever explained that?

  • jasonlloyd33 Yes it´s a great book. It´s better than its reputation. Goldman is even the first one who has analysed a lot of Lennon´s music. Goldman does not only compare with other rock music, but even with folk music and "classical" music.

But how do you put in Lennon´s eventual homosexuality? Was this the reason why he was so depressed during the last years with the Beatles? Not that nobody knew he was a composer, only McCartney?

  • @Johan93888 the man was so depressed in the final years because the horrid pressure of going on with the facade with Paul's IMPOSTER REPLACEMENT was getting to be more than he could bear. The other TWO Beatles felt the same way.And breakup was the DIRECT result of them NOT want to continue with this incredible LIE any longer. And they HAD to break up because it became more than they could continue to bare.THINK ABOUT IT !

  • The Beatles in their prime! :D

  • Amazing song and a video of its almost spontaneous creation.

  • zeromant80 Hello again. I agree, but under the surface Lennon was desperate. Everbody thought at this time that McCartney was the Beatles´composer. See page 392 in Albert Goldmans book about Lennon 1988, where Lennon said: "Everybody thinks that Paul and George Martin did all music".

All kind of media in the whole world thought that. See for example the article by Ned Rorem in The New York Review of Books 1968, and Reader´s Digest 1968.

  • @Johan93888 Great book although Goldman implies or rather plainly states that Lennon was a homosexual.

  • this shoulda been a single ><

  • This is one of the best videos ever...

  • I hate the Beatles. They refused Charles Manson acceptance into their social club because he wasn't wearing a tie!!!!!! How is this possible? Harry Potter would have put a spell on them and melted their eyes for such a grave injustice had he not still been a seed in a sack at the time!!! But he was... Alas... He was...

  • Paul looks soo good in a sweater vest ;) Like if you agree<3

  • Thumbs up if you are a human and you like good music, and consequently, the reason you are here reading this right now. The Beatles are not a a class of music. They *are* music. I mean really...

  • Thumbs if you are under 20 and love The Beatles and John Lennon and Paul McCartney and George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

  • @MaccaBeatles

Yeah, my kids are 17 and 12 and they love the Beatles. They have the mono remaster box, books and clothes. They really love them.

  • @MaccaBeatles i still lovin beatles even i'm 20...so what? no age limit 4 the beatles...maybe for biebers

  • DavidGigg I´m sorry, I have to insist. In the book by Geoff Emerick I mentioned, in page 221 Emerick says that "Across the Universe was meant to be the B-side to "Lady Madonna" and in page 223 Lennon wanted "Hey Bulldog" to be the next single in Mars 68.

McCartney sabotaged "Across the Universe" and soon after that he stoped "Hey Bulldog", always with George Martin behind his back

  • @Johan93888

I have to respond with some facts from for the definitive 'The Complete Beatles Recording sessions" (Mark Lewinsohn) who details EVERY Beatles recording session. Hey Bullog was recorded on Sunday February 11 when they were filming footage for a promo clip for Lady Madonna which has already been selected as the next single. You're correct about Across the Universe but not Hey Bulldog.

  • The Beatles had booked a recording studio to shoot a promo for Lady Madonna. They finished early and had booked studio time left so decided to record something. John was the only one who had a song to hand. The song got it's name when Paul starting calling it out at the end as obviously has nothing to do with the lyrics. They were contratcted to provide 4 'new' songs for Yellow Submarine and were one short so wanted to get it out of the way before leaving for India. That's why this was filmed.

  • 97 people are sadly misguided. GREAT SONG!

  • George doesn't seem to be particularly "into" the tune, IMO.

  • Thumbs if you are annoyed of all the age statuses we DONT care how old you are.

  • I'd like to consider this song the ancestor of screamo hahaha. Love this band.

  • zeromant80, read below what I answered

  • zeromant I am sorry to insist. "Hey Bulldog" was already written - by Lennon - before they got into the studio. Lennon wanted it to be the A-side to the next single, instead of McCartney´s "Lady Madonna", but was stopped. (See "Here, There and Everywhere" by Geoff Emerick, 2006, page 222-223). George Martin and McCartney often kept together against Lennon. Martin mostly prefered McCartney´s more conventional songs.

  • @Johan93888

The correct fact is that song Lennon wanted for the next single was 'Across the Universe' , not Hey Bulldog.

  • @Johan93888 It all right if you insist... you are fighting for your opinnions my friend... maybe i need to re-read about beatles' bio... at least (the most important) is that such a good song was recorded in a good friendly mood (they were so negative in the white album/let it be era)

  • This is my favorite Beatles song ever, so funky.

  • Great to see the two giants in such a friendly state, they knocked this off as an album filler and yet it is better than the majority of modern groups can achieve in a career

  • @bibsteenson ONE "giant".. the other is an imposter... whose day is winding down is about to be EXPOSED any day now for the "fake" he's been all these years

  • @bibsteenson

Actually, I'm pretty sure this was supposed to be a single, but they chose Lady Maddonna instead. I believe that's one major contributing factor between Paul and John's falling out. Choosing one of Paul's over John's compositions. Frankly, I think "Hey, Bulldog" was a better song, too. Anyhow, I totally agree. It's great to see these guys so friendly.

  • @mussman717word Nah, Hey, Bulldog was actually worked out and recorded in the studio at the same time they were recording the promo film for Lady Madonna. So the decision had already been made to release Lady Madonna as a single. And, while I love Hey Bulldog, there's no way I think it's better than Lady Madonna.

  • @kriswright

Hmm... you might be right, not sure. Anyhow, when comparing Beatles songs "better than" is nothing more than a humble opinion. I dig "Hey Bulldog," you dig "Lady Madonna." Both are great tunes, and nobody can deny that.

  • @mussman717word Agreed. :)

  • @bibsteenson Damn the weird thing for me is The Beatles is the first band I've found that doesn't have fillers. In-fact what I found the most surprising is the fact that their least popular songs are still amazing. I don't know if it's my infatuation or something, but the Beatles are literally good song after good song.

  • @GouledXD its a good feeling isent it

  • @GouledXD Right. So imagine how it was for a lot of us who literally grew up on their stuff. And devoured each new song as it was released. They blazed for six years, NEVER repeating themselves. And subsequently, were never duplicated. They are the touchstone.

  • @222Lightning why did someone erase my comment ????????? Lennon would have like my comment !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its the people who try to make everything look nice and pretty in denial of the things in life that are scary and not pretty that really undo great thinkers in this world.

  • Comment removed

  • This song is sooooo funky.

  • I wonder if that lyric sheet is still out there somewhere. Whoever has it knows it is worth a fortune. I heard LENNON'S ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE lyric sheet sold for a lot at an auction as after he sang it in front of MILLIONS on the TELECAST he left it on the music stand and someone picked it up and sold it years later! I would have kept it! WORTH MORE THAN THE MONEY!

  • John Lennon and George Harrison were my favorite Beatles

  • It said that it was the last session which we see them laughing together !

This song is perfect to me, I mean, the riff, bass, drum, solo, vocal... One of my favorite song.

The Part when John & Paul Screaming in a Childish Way = My Ringtone :p

  • @MrNewfieboy12345

your comment would be perfeck without " Thumbs If you are" , just dont beg for thumbs :D

  • This is when John Lennon had his ugly muttonchops :( I liked him better without a beard or long hair.

  • Paul's harmonies and bass part ftwmfw

  • JACK KNIFE...In your sweaty hand

  • It's so funny how this is the video for Lady Madonna too but this is the song that matches it!

  • thumbs up if u want to kill the guy that shot John and thumbs up if uv been listning to thm for as long as u can remember and u want them back and ur only 14 like me, or even thumbs up if u thought john lennon was still alive then cried when ur mum said some ass hole shot him

  • GREAT footage and GREAT song.ROCK ON!!!!!!

  • yeah fuckers!! the beatles are the more biggest rockband of the worl and the history of the rock "n roll OR WHAT!!

  • the 97 people that disliked cant talk to me

  • @00Sulpher I wouldn't be surprised if they can't talk at all. They just bark.

  • Hey John and paul, can i talk to you? :)

  • i just can't stop loving them, they're awesome ! :D♥

there'll never be anyone like them!

  • THIS

has been my favorite beatles song of all time since i saw the yellow submarine.

  • 97 people hate bulldogs

  • "Hey Bulldog" is a fantastic Lennon composition. The lovely melody, the wunderful Harrison - guitar solo, and the end ! The end is seemingly only screeming, but is a fantastic piece of music. Behind the caos, the guitar is playing the ten notes again and again and again and again, which gives you a hypnotic feeling. The song was aimed to bee released as a singel in Marsch 1968, but George Martin and McCartney stoped it.

  • @Johan93888 Hey Bulldog was meant to be written and recorded while The Beatles were being filmed for a promotional film for Lady Madonna, actually more like a "album filler" not as a single itself

  • @Johan93888

Never considered for a single. You're confusing this with Across the Universe which was rejected for the March 1968 single

  • Yeah, it's a great song, I've always loved it. It was considered as a single but so were a lot of later songs that weren't too great. It's not like they had a lack of songs for singles. What I love about this video is seeing them in the studio, from a period that is not as well generally documented as the early days or the Let It Be breakup. It's a shame there's not more footage of them out there during the White Album sessions or that period in general.

  • Very Cool! Punk before it's age! If you hate this, get out! We don't want to hear your fuckin comments

  • 95 idiots

  • LOVE the riff on this song. Nice one on the SG, George. :D

  • Justin who?

  • @MrNewfieboy12345 The beatles, john lennon, paul mccartney, george harrison and ringo starr!!!

  • @MrNewfieboy12345 FUCK YEA

  • @MrNewfieboy12345 I am 12 years old and I never listened to a Beatles music tha I doesnt liked

  • @MrNewfieboy12345 theres no reason to proud of liking a band that is before your time

  • @MrNewfieboy12345 so get off your high horse

  • @MrNewfieboy12345 What about those of us who are in our early 20s and have no particular preference for John over the others? :(

  • @breakfastatmilliways ..Exactly what I was thinking.

  • Comment removed

  • @PaddrickFancy Yeah, John's hair and skin colouring was a shade lighter than the other three. The old 8mm(?)yellows things a little. He had light-brown hair.

  • Nhaa ... 95 havent good connection
