I think people who are bashing on Bethesda are just throwing a fit because of nostalgia. You behave as if you owned and even created the past games and because someone else is having a go at it, that you should feel offended. There will always be changes to games that you will like or won't. Also things that need to be improved. I bet if any of the fanboys returned to fallout 1 and 2 they wouldn't even enjoy it as much as they had in the past. This comes from experience. So quit bullshitting.
Shooting heads off, really doesn't get old, I've been watching my brother play it for hours... the only thing that sucks about it, is your continually under fire, and it doesn't give you control back fast enough.
oblivion was a great game, to open worl and rpg fans. it was a break through as well having a world like that size. but the main qust did suck, but every thing else i loved and fallout has a much better story
I disagree. I consider myself both an rpg fan, and a fan of open world games. Oblivion was piss poor and retardedly easy. I would rather play Morrowind, or, better yet, Daggerfall before I even give Oblivion a second look. Oh, and Fallout 3's main questline sucked. HARD. The enclave was a joke and the endings were garbage.
well i have not gotten to the end yet i havnt had the time but i am close. i really do disagree with you on this main quest i think its pretty cool sure it starts out like its just trying to find your dad but it becomes bigger then that and i think thats cool. i really like oblivion and fallout 3 i guess you just lve it or hate it
This is the problem with this mentality. Fallout 3 is commonly compared to the other games in Bethesda's library. I played Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion, but I also played the old Fallout games plus other old rpgs such as Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment, Neverwinter Nights etc. so my points of comparison isn't so limited to merely Oblivion or Morrowind. I wouldn't consider those games great, maybe Morrowind is closest to being great. The fact is, the standards got lowered, dumbed down.
Fallout 3 is a dumbed down version of Fallout 1 and 2. Bethesda felt it needed to cater to the mainstream, and become politically correct at the same time making the game as gratuitously violent as they can. It is permissible to blow people's heads off in slo-mo, but kids cannot be killed, or boobs cannot be shown? The original Fallout games went all the way, pulling no punches. The main reason for that of course, is money.
Yeah sure, if your taste includes dull dialogue, mostly boring quests, NPCs lack of personality, a main story that sucks and leaves you hanging at the end etc. as long as TEH GRAFIX RULEZ1!1!!! it is a much better game.
And what pray tell exactly do you like about Fallout 3 that makes it better in your opinion than Fallouts 1 and 2? Can you elaborate, or maybe you are just talking out of your ass and haven't really played the first two games?
i hate how the camera is, thats all it really bugs me. like how the camera bugs people in fallout 3 who played 1 and 2. i am not saying they are bad thats not true. i am just saying i like 3 better mabey its because i played 3 first
lol i havnt beaten it so i didnt know it leaves you hanging. thats kinda cool though. dont tell me what happens though. i dont know what you mean by boring npcs, i find them to be funny or cool or evil i really hated some evil charaters in the game. now some quest are lame or not fun but others are very fun. main story i find to be ok so far. but every thing else is great. vats is cool i find it very cool that you can be bad or good wich oblivion didnt really let you do
I wouldn't say Morrowind was great or even close. The main quest line was just waaay too bad. Bethesda doesn't have the first idea what Fallout is..... Take away the isometric view because they have an engine and they can save money? Come on...this franchise deserves more!
Hm....then why does Blizzard develop Diablo 3 using isometric view? Well, let me guess...there might be two reasons : 1. They remain true to their franchise 2. They care about fans. Blizzard Entartainment does not have a single game which did not top the charts when it was released. So following your logic, they are making a mistake because they use an "archaic" view..... Nope, your point is simply illogical...
Taking away the isometric view was one of the best things Besthesda has done with the franchise other than VATS.
You're right, this franchise deserves more. It deserves to be in a full blown 3d world where people can explore and get real close to the environment. Not some antique form of perspective that would do nothing more other than an irritation. It was good back then but it would be a terrible idea to use now.
Terrible idea to use, eh? What about Dungeon Siege? It did isometric and it turned out GREAT! Diablo 3 is going to be too, and that should be awesome as well! It's about strategy. Not anything else.
It makes sense to have Diablo 3 in the isometric perspective because you have a lot of spells and abilities to worry about. That's not so in Fallout 3.
That's the problem. Real Time + Fallout = Fail. There's no strategy what so ever. And in the originals, you used to have to, or to switch to a stimpack. It was a lot more realistic.
Fallout 1 & 2 were by no means realistic. And i'd say there is still strategy in Fallout 3. There can't be none what so ever. Aside from the fact that isn't possible. I can see just as much strategy being in this game compared to the others.
No means realistic? What world are you living in? It could happen. It probably will happen. And what do you mean there's "Strategy"? I'm talking planning moves ahead overtime.
The setting is mostly realistic. Not the gameplay. Which is what we're talking about here. In real life you don't wait your turn. And if you shoot someone in real life, no matter your skill, chances are you'll hit whatever you shot at. That is what makes the old ones not so realistic besides the obvious limitations of the hardware. Fallout 3 isn't even there but its closer than what the first two were. And yes, there is strategy in Fallout 3. Largely due to VATS.
You're right. The gameplay ISN'T realistic. But that's why it's turn based. Look, if someone took Halo, and made it into a fallout type game, the fans would HATE it. Just like gears and Elder Scrolls. What's your favorite game? What if they turned it into completely the opposite of that?
@G4Spounge: Setting is mostly realistic? Are you on crack? Like really? You realize that FO3 takes place 200 years after the bombs have dropped right? Yet everyone is still eating prewar food, building barricades out of 200 year old plywood, and oh yeah the papers people put on those bulletin boards are still up there. Wood framed houses are still standing. Not to mention my civil war era repeating rifle is the strongest thing I've got that doesn't shoot a mini nuke.
While your statement is, broadly, correct, it doesn't defend your previous statement of realism. Plus, bethesda's all about the immersion, right? I see all those little bullshit details that just don't make sense, even in a world with scorpions as big as trucks and laser guns, and yes, the 200 year old plywood acting as a bullet stopping barrier is what makes me say wtf. I'm not for 100% true realism, just that many things were not thought out as well as they probably should have been.
Vats gives you the chance to shoot four times while enemies only shoot once and as if that is not easy enough, all the damage you receive is reduced to 10%. How does that provide strategy?? It is a cheat tool.
your an idiot have you even played fallout? alot of the enemies are supposed to be weaker than you which also depends on your level its a fuckin rpg douchebag
When catering to a mainstream audience you leave behind more of the patience oriented gameplay in favor for a "lock n' load" style where any dumb Joe can hop in and shoot some 'muties'. This spells disaster for the old Fallout fans as it alienates what we came to love about Fallout, that it WASNT a mainstream game with instant satisfaction. It was a quirky rpg that was better than the rest because it was different.
Bethesda, what you find to be suitable for the mainstream audience isn't usually suitable with the people that have been playing fallout since the mid 90's and who have kept there ear to the net for any real semblance of a Fallout title that doesn't suck as bad as Tactics did.
"Monty Python references; that kinda stuff goes over the line"
You dumb peice of crap. Leaving out monty python from this fallout in my opinion is the biggest failing of the game-to-be' so far just more than the combat system which leaves the old turnbased one in the dust. Fallout Tactics tried this real-time combat bullshit and it SUCKED.
Well if ANY of Bethesda games would ever been anytghing good or slightly ROLE play about them (and not just using the mechanics that usualy come with a roleplay system but realy has nothing to do with what a ropleying game is by nature) then maybe we woulden't be so pesimistic.
I want to belive, but I'm a sceptic. But you'll get my hard earned SKRs never the less, bastards!
Oblivion was horrible, to call it a RPG is just stupid, atleast call it a CRPG and that's propobly only Torment and FO 1 & 2 that can pull off, the rest just steals mechanics but nothing about ROLE playing, it's just roll playing.
How was Oblivion horrible? How much more RPG could u get? Oblivion was a great game that got a bunch of rewards and im sure Fall Out 3 is goin to be the same. Bethesda always pulls it off
When you can tell me what the characters personality was (not class, not modus operandi) but personality and how that affected people and above all else the story and actually changed it, then you'll know what a role to be played is in a game context. Oblivion was horrible, hell, GTA is more or an RPG then Oblivion and saying THAT bloody scares me, cuss that game truly sucks.
Yea but oblivion doesnt have turn based combat making it alot better than blue dragon and any of those final fantasy games and I dont think ive actually seen a game that what you do actually changes the whole outcome of the game. The closest ive seen is mass effect and as much as I like that game, it really didnt change the outcome. Sure u can lose a few ppl here and there but the story always comes out the same. you defeat the guy, become the part of the council, it all turns out the same
A) JRPGs are not actually ROLEplaying games, they are stories with a game mechanic, but you have no choise in how to play your role, they are by all accounts ROLL (not role) playing games. B) No, choise and freedome does not allways make for a beter game, freedome does not equal beter when it comes to games, it can, but rarely is. C) Question was, is it a RPG or not (or just abuseing the term, like most CRPGs and JRPGs do). Personaly i think Oblivion, as well as GTA, is a failure in freedome.
Your missing the point. I woulden't make Oblivion in teh first place, and for thouse who enjoy it by all means DO, but it is NOT a RPG, it's a "CRPG" at best. I can't comment on FO3, have not played it yet, so that would be a bit silly of me commenting on any changes when I don't know the final product.
Where throwing dices (or leaving things to a random generator and statistics, usualy along a well staked out line to follow) takes precedens over character, "emotivity" and choise. Shure I can love a hack and slash dice fest, but to be honest, I don't consider it Role Play, board or no board.
I got some humor...nuclear bombs in megaton that you can or cannot detonate as a "moral choice" LMAO, Bethesda needs to get a clue. Seems they are makin' this shit for 10 yr olds... Death before dishonor... my poor Fallout is being RAPED.
I'm liking this game anyway, I could not care less if it isn't like other fallout games. There have been several games that evolved differently since I was a kid, I don't complain. You should go on the official forum, full of fucking fanboy pansies.
im am i huge fallout fan and screw all of you that keep insulting bethesda they working really hard on this game and it looks pretty damn good so far.. black isle and interplay are completely dead.. dosent mean we wont remember fallout 1 and 2 but there are no more games comming for them. and its better that bethesda is taking the time to make another fallout game rather than like EA or ubisoft. so all of you dissing bethesda just grow up and be thankful theres another great fallout game
I like how a civil comment such as "i personnally think it will be a great game." got 2 thumbs down... for stating an opinion that doesn't impose on anybody. grow up you schmucks.
what the hell is your problem people? you're all acting like this is a war between the original fallout and fallout 3 from bethesda,if you don't like what bethesda is doing then why the hell do you keep leaving comments insulting bethesda sheesh, just don't buy the game and keep up with your life ,life is not just games.
What's with these assholes dissin bethesada, I'm glad they are replaceing 14 degrees east, elder scrolls is a twisted story and wonderful game, AI is a little off, but still wonderful games
exacly.. im happy were getting a new fallout that looks good.. and isent like that shity brotherhood of steel. cant stand all these people that talk shit about bethesda when if it wasent for them we wouldnt have a new fallout game
Oblivion was HORRIBLE. Not even the modding community could do a thing to help that shit be enjoyable, like with Morrowind. Probably because the only people who can stay interested in Oblivion long enough to mod it are horny teenagers who do little else other than play as females and wear as little as possible. But that's irrelevant.
If Bethesda's that eager to ruin their own game series, I don't feel confident in their ability to not fiercely shit all over this one.
lol i laugh at people thoughts from the past about fallout3 its my favorite game and ive played every fallout 1,2, tactics, 3 and new vegas

Oblivion was horrible, hell, GTA is more or an RPG then Oblivion and saying THAT bloody scares me, cuss that game truly sucks.
F4R207 3 years ago
Yea but oblivion doesnt have turn based combat making it alot better than blue dragon and any of those final fantasy games and I dont think ive actually seen a game that what you do actually changes the whole outcome of the game. The closest ive seen is mass effect and as much as I like that game, it really didnt change the outcome. Sure u can lose a few ppl here and there but the story always comes out the same. you defeat the guy, become the part of the council, it all turns out the same
kevruiz1234567890 3 years ago
A) JRPGs are not actually ROLEplaying games, they are stories with a game mechanic, but you have no choise in how to play your role, they are by all accounts ROLL (not role) playing games. B) No, choise and freedome does not allways make for a beter game, freedome does not equal beter when it comes to games, it can, but rarely is. C) Question was, is it a RPG or not (or just abuseing the term, like most CRPGs and JRPGs do). Personaly i think Oblivion, as well as GTA, is a failure in freedome.

Alright Mr.Game master. if u made fallout 3 or oblivion what would you change that would make it so much more RPG?
kevruiz1234567890 3 years ago
Your missing the point. I woulden't make Oblivion in teh first place, and for thouse who enjoy it by all means DO, but it is NOT a RPG, it's a "CRPG" at best. I can't comment on FO3, have not played it yet, so that would be a bit silly of me commenting on any changes when I don't know the final product.
F4R207 3 years ago
Nicely said. Just one question. What do you mean when you say its a "Roll" playing game and not a "Role" playing game
kevruiz1234567890 3 years ago
Where throwing dices (or leaving things to a random generator and statistics, usualy along a well staked out line to follow) takes precedens over character, "emotivity" and choise. Shure I can love a hack and slash dice fest, but to be honest, I don't consider it Role Play, board or no board.

yeah, the truth hurts don't it?

I got some humor...nuclear bombs in megaton that you can or cannot detonate as a "moral choice" LMAO, Bethesda needs to get a clue. Seems they are makin' this shit for 10 yr olds... Death before dishonor... my poor Fallout is being RAPED.

I'm liking this game anyway, I could not care less if it isn't like other fallout games. There have been several games that evolved differently since I was a kid, I don't complain. You should go on the official forum, full of fucking fanboy pansies.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
If they'd called it "Fallout: Oblivion" or "Fallout: The Shooter" I'd have no problem.
Entzmeat 3 years ago
same. Not a RPG, just FPS with RPG elements.

im am i huge fallout fan and screw all of you that keep insulting bethesda they working really hard on this game and it looks pretty damn good so far.. black isle and interplay are completely dead.. dosent mean we wont remember fallout 1 and 2 but there are no more games comming for them. and its better that bethesda is taking the time to make another fallout game rather than like EA or ubisoft. so all of you dissing bethesda just grow up and be thankful theres another great fallout game

I like how a civil comment such as "i personnally think it will be a great game." got 2 thumbs down... for stating an opinion that doesn't impose on anybody. grow up you schmucks.

what the hell is your problem people? you're all acting like this is a war between the original fallout and fallout 3 from bethesda,if you don't like what bethesda is doing then why the hell do you keep leaving comments insulting bethesda sheesh, just don't buy the game and keep up with your life ,life is not just games.
maxdude2693 3 years ago

"great game like Oblivion"... After that there is no need to even try Fallout 3.
With some luck it will be better than fallout tactics but I doubt it. That was at least turn based and not a damn FPS with pause button.
We can onlz hope they get hit by a meteorite before releasing this blasphmey.

We don't want fucking Oblivion with guns.
Go to hell Bethesda. You can only make the same game over and fucking over again.
You said when you first started making it you were all hardcore fallout fans, and you were making it for fallout fans.
