I can't imagine anyone of non-Asian ancestry in the Seattle metro area making such an ignorant remark, since the overwhelming majority of Asian Americans here don't have non-English sounding accents.

On the other hand, since the average Asian American percentage of population in the U.S. overall is many times smaller, it's not surprising that people in some other parts of the U.S. are so ignorant.
