Toho Tribute: VARAN

I recently found out that the reason Varan didn't help to fight in Destroy All Monsters with the rest of the Earth Defenders was because the Varan costume was damaged. Toho did infact intend to use him to fight but instead of repairing the costume they just had him glide in and watch the battle.

Its a real shame that they replaced him with baragon though in Giant Monsters All-Out Attack. I hope to god Legendary Pictures decides to involve him somehow when Godzilla comes 'out of retirement'

A Varanadon is a relative of Dimetrodon. It does not have the sail back of it's cousin. Looked up in a text book of prehistoric beast. Varanus - is a classification given to monitor lizards!

We all could see Varan is obviously a VERY tremendous, marine iguana. lol They should a gave him a bigger role in Destroy All Monsters... instead of just flying around. lol

Varan was meant to be in the Toho film that eventually became "Godzilla vs Gigan". The idea was that Godzilla, Rodan and Varan would face off against Ghidorah, Gigan, and another monster called Mogu (which was never used). Another script had Megalon joining Ghidorah and Gigan against Godzilla and Anguirus.

VARAN was Toho's first widescreen monster; and the last black and white film! It is a Large Varanodon a cousin to the Dimetrodon. Other than it's brute power; it' skin is elastic and makes it bounce off fire power. Like Baragon it's a runt monster.

@Phantanos Varan is nothing like a Dimetrodon... who has a sail on it's back, NOT spikes, like Varan does. Varan is a giant version of a marine iguana. Look it up, he looks nearly identical. lol

He was a BABY!Not a baby Varan.There is only one of each Kaiju except for Gyaos from Gamera I think.THey always come back.Sorta like a video game enemy.

Varan... He appeared in 2 Showa movies only. He was supposed to appear on the early draft of GMK but was scrapped. BAH...

I've only seen Varan in 2 films. "The Unbelievable" And He was BARELY in Destroy All Monsters. Was he actually in any full lenght Godzilla features? I hope so. He's too cool.

The unbeliveable was his only big film. He made very, very brief cameo appearances in destroy all monsters and final wars, stock footage only. But, at least included him in Godzilla Unleashed for the wii, he is awsome! Triphibians forever!!!

Varan is cool. I think he looks awesome in "Varan The Unbelievable" but in "Destroy All Monsters" he does not look as evil. Definately a monster that did not work out in terms of getting a lot of film appearances. People may also bring up Baragon but Baragon got to be in GMK. Varan has two, really one, appearances in a film. Sad in a way.
