As i said before and ill say it again USA are going to become really really good in world Rugby, i know its hard to see that now but give it 5 - 10 years and we gonna be talkin CASH!!
@duckworthification true. but there's like 4 or 5 professional player in the US team, compared to other countries that have a professional league with a huge professional player roster. I hope US will be more involve in rugby in the future. The more countries play, the better it is for the sport.
I played rugby for the first time this year at my high school and its the greatest sport there is I would give anything to be able to play for the eagles.
i just plaed rugby for the first time today and i wanted to lookup on it \..... and i play soccer but this is a great sport i wish my high school had it
@tannerxsoccer94 Start a club at your high school. See if there are teams around you can play for. contact a local men's team, they should have guys interested in coaching.
all but like 4 guys on the usa team play pro rugby the rest are all ametures and the guys who play pro dont play in the churchil cup and the summer test matches
As dan2hamilton said, the US are an amateur team. With a population of around 300 million, if the US decided to take rugby seriously there selection pool would be greater than the entire rest of the world combined, with way, way more resources. Combine that with the inventiveness you associate with the Yanks, and it could be a run for my beloved All Blacks. Not saying it'd happen over night, but the next 10 to 15 years or so will be key. Takes time to build a reputation.
Ever heard of Dan Lyle? When Todd is the Captain of a Super 14 team, he's on Dan Lyle's level. I'd have to give a nod to Mike McDonald over Clever as well as Captain of Leeds. I'm not going to bad mouth Clever but he's still got a way to go to being considered "the best".
OK I've put some thought in it,here's what Rugby here needs.
- More Americans in the top Rugby jobs.
-Rugby 15's & 7's are a divided house, which isnt good for the game. They should make that John dude who owns the 7's a lifetime board member of the 15's and then they can work as a united front.
3) The marketing is WEAK.
inspiring America to fall in love with Rugby?
what are they promoting flower picking?
it's the greatest game ever & it should say that!
Nice to see a clip of Todd Clever in there...that guy is just a beast. I'm glad that some USA talent is playing professionally overseas...Clever even got to go up against the B&I Lions the other week - something that many players in even the most developed rugby nations don't get the chance to do.
only one million? come on we are rugby players and fans! we always take it to the next level! one million... maybe if we were all wingers! (just kidding us scrumies love you guys)
I have always had an interest in rugby, but it wasn't until I deployed and learned how to play. Now I am hooked and look forward to practice and match time, I LOVE GAME. Football has nothing on it.
And yes, we won seven golds in Track & Field so at least those golds were spread out a little more evenly.
One of the reasons we do so well as a country at the Olympics as far as OVERALL MEDAL COUNT is because we have numbers and financing and facilities. Other countries aren't blessed with what we have over here but yet, we continue to underperform.
In swimming, we rule. In basketball, we have our pros compete which isn't fair.
Watch the World Cups (except women's soccer), we always choke.
I happen to be very qualified and know a lot about sports; domestically and internationally.
You just happen to be drinking some serious kool-aid here. Sorry if what I said was a little too real. You're way out of touch.
Cycling, sailing, equestrian, and fencing sure have HUGE international followings right? We did win gold in those. And if Michael Phelps wasn't such a beast and a great individual performer, we would have had around 30 Golds instead of 35.
I started playing rugby in 9th grade i was like 15 (about to be 16) and that summer i got invited to an age grade camp got a good taste of rugby, and i got invited after my 10th grade year ( missed makin the team both year) but like now i'm in my 3rd i'm 17 now (about to be 18) year still workin because i wanna make the national team...i love rugby and i think if more people knew about it they would love it too. i just wish there was more people that loved rugby like you and I =)
Keep trying, man. I discovered Rugby when I was 30. I've been playing for 4 and a half years and love it. I wish I had the chance to play in high school.
Looks like a good film with some pretty good guys in it. However, we all know that US Rugby isn't very good and will never be able to compete with established overseas programs as we have an inferiority when it comes to sports here in the states. We love to talk about how good we are in sports but when it comes to international competition, (except basketball whereas the pros can compete in the olympics), we just aren't that good as a country in sports that matter to the rest of the world.
Sporting success is determined by a lot of things, but most importantly athletic talent pool, available resources, and the level of experience of the players (what sports are available/popular at a young age). The United States has more resources, more athletes, an athletic culture, a growing rugby community and youth rugby programs. What you're saying is inane.
Making it to the final qualifying nations in the RWC isn't very good? And that's just the men's 15s team. Checked out the women lately? The USA Sevens?
Agreed... support US Women's Rugby, who have been a world power since the 1990's, and have only fallen off recently. Save the welfare case (known as US Men's Rugby) for when someone wins the lottery.
Millions of Americans spend their childhoods playing football and baseball and then, after high school, there is virtually no venue for the majority of them to continue since both sports are so expensive to play. Ad time is a factor in exposure, but rugby and soccer may begin to catch on soon enough in the US as TV advertising adapts to a new media age. Until there is a better way to advertise in those sports (something to account for no stoppage in play), they won't get much air time.
Your unfounded claim that the US is inferior in international sporting competitions is ridiculous? Did you watch the last Olympics? We had the most medals, you don't get the most medals (36 being gold) by winning just at basketball. Track, swimming, gymnastics, women's soccer, fencing and the list goes on. You don't know shit about sports if you think that is true. The USA is the WORLD super power in sports, we even in sports that people in America don't care about like cycling.
I think the USA could be good. But in a couple weeks the Australians are going to beat them like they owe them money.

For what it's worth:
We believe that American Rugby players have what it takes to go all the way!
We were inspired by their passion, honorability
sacrifice and flashes of playing brilliance.
That's why we made the film!
The Director is an Aussie
The Writer an American
We have a Kiwi, South African and a Engishman on our team and
we all agree that the game of rugby would be better off if the US had the same backing as the rest of the teams.
THANKS FOR SUPPORTING 'TRY'
