Pretty terrible to think that there is a good chance this bear will get taken out. With domesticated animals, an apex predator usually realizes that they are an easy kill and will return to areas where domesticated animals are prevalent. If farmers have repeated problems in an area with bears/wolves/whatever, Fish and Wildlife comes in, and it's either relocation or lights out predator.
Bloody Hell! and they say Australia is a dangerous place to visit! If one of those suckers wants to eat you and you havent got a firearm I guess you are screwed?
LOL There's always the play-dead trick, but that only really works for something like a Sow with cubs. She'll leave you alone once she thinks you're "dead" and no longer a threat to her offspring.
If it intends to eat you and you don't have protection, yeah.. you're pretty much screwed unless you can summon the power of Hercules lol
@LukaTisus Hmmm Where I live (Australia) there are heaps of things that can kill you, but they tend to keep to themselves. Sort of like "you stay over there and you will be fine, but come over here and I wiil end you".
Must be weird lying in your tent wondering if the animal outside intends to drag you out and eat you.
@anthony9thompson hahahaha true! but at least the dangers are obvious. (dont jump off cliff, dont go on a mountain in winter if you dont know about avalanche safety, dont fuck with bears, drive slow in the snow. hahahah heck even our venomous snakes warn us with a informative rattle.) in Austrailia(beautifull country by the way) almost everthing is on the top ten venomous creatures list.
Once again, humans show their superiority. Can you hear the morons laugh at something that has been happening for centuries? I bet they grow up to be real he men. How sad.
If you ever get chased by a bear, then run down hill. They can't run down hill because of the way they are built, but notice how fast he catches up with those sheep when they get on level ground.
and ur a fucking tool, and i bet u have alot of experience then huh?
no,
come to my part of the town and have a grizzly kill ur horse, then defend it and by charging u when u go to get ur horse, which u dont know is dead on the ground, luckily i shut the gate before he go to me, i ran up in the loft, looked over the indoor barn, saw my dead horse, so i shut the bear right in the fucking nose.
ya, that was only 1 out of 3 charges, the other 1 i shot it
that's an old wives tale. they run downhill a little slower than on the flat, but its still a lot faster than a human can run downhill. i have to take a Bear Aware refresher every year for work, so i'm not pulling this out my ass.
I always feel bad for wild animals that are shot for killing livestock. They are only doing what comes natural to them. If farmers don't want their animals eaten then they shouldn't raise them where there are big predators like bear and wolves. They didn't ask to have their land invaded by us. The old lady should think she's fortunate to only lose 1 sheep. Build a fence so the others won't get out and be eaten!!
A fence doesn't stop a grizz.. but I do agree with you.. I hate that animals that run on instinct like this are put to death.
We all seem to think we're the top of the foodchain, but when it gets right down to it, humans are somewhere in the middle. We're prey, whether we like to think of it or not, so instead of killing things that are a "danger to humans", we should learn to respect them and not tread to carelessly into their territory.
@LukaTisus sorry but we are the top of the food chain. i completely agree with it being wrong that these animals are often shot for doing what comes natural to them. but to say we are not the top of the food chain is incorrect. just because we are not as strong or fast as grizzlies or wolves does not mean we are not over them. if we werent top of food chain, then how come we are able to make top predators vanish from land they dominated before we got there
@LukaTisus its not cheating humans are only using what was given to them. bears have claws, fangs, and powerful limbs. humans have big brains that enabled us to create tools and weapons. Brain>Brawn
@semtech30 Who said anything about predators ruling our country?? That was one of the most idiotic statements I've ever heard. These farmer have absolutely NO reason to bitch when their livestock are eaten by bears or wolves because they refuse to keep them in fenced areas. It's called natural selection and it's happened since time began. Read a book sometime and you'll know that too.
I find it strange that ranchers who set up an operation where there is a known population of predators act so pissed and suprised when one of their animals gets taken. It's like buiding a house next to a river and then crying when it floods.
Kinda pisses me off that people in general seem to think that animals like bears and such should automatically know to steer clear of humans, anyway.
We have an alleged "bear problem" in our town, and I think it's sheer bullshit. We had an extremely bad berry season, so they've got very little to eat, and have few choices but to come down into the townsite to feed off of the apple trees and such that people have in their yards. It's not their fault, but the RCMP kills them anyway.. :(
ya if those were my sheep that bear would have made it just to the back of that sheep and then that bear would have been goin down, mayb with the sheep but probably alone
good shit! real good shit! that makes you so so bad wish you were there w/a bud light and some of your boys because a story like that would never be believed! Thanks!
this is proof of why grizzly's should be hunted in Montana. If they were hunted then they would develope a fear of humans and not bother domestic animals or humans
dps17682 : if they got shot when they were on farms, they would likely stay away. the same argument is used to explain why the guy in that grizzly man video was an idiot. he trained those bears to think humans were not threatening, thus increasing the risk of an encounter. most animals stay away from humans because they fear us. when you teach bears not to fear people youre just asking for problems.
i disagree, the dead ones wouldnt come back but what about foxes and dingoes etc? we shoot them constantly over here and they keep coming back. i see your point but whos to say the bear had been there before?
I agree, its not as if the bears going to go tell his friends or something. But at the same time deer and other hunted animals, even if sometimes they make their way onto your property, are darn afraid of people.I don't see them walking up to people and eating out of their hands, where as pigeons, who we have trained for the most part to be around humans, do approach humans with little fear. Something tells me that if every time a pigeon made an appearance it got blown away, they would steer clear.
Great Video!!! one thing that i find very scary is someone giving admiral qualitys to a sheep. natural selection old = slow = meal Grizzleys are slow on downhill because shorter front legs . luka peged it when the older sheep hit the flat it was over. i had my first face to face with a black bear with hedge clippers in my hand. After I shit myself and yelled at it with hedge clipper in hand it walked away. if it attacked me i planned on trying to clip its claws during my mauling.
The average grizzly can run for about 25-30km an hour for short spurts. They're -extremely- fast, and people don't expect it mostly due to thinking they're big, slow and lumbering. Having a grizzly, or any kind of bear charge you isn't the most pleasant experience. @_@; I had a black bear charge me earlier this fall. It was a false charge and it backed off after the first one. Scared the shit out of me though, and luckily I was standing right beside my truck.
This video was shot by a group of tree planters just outside of Golden BC...The lady who owns the sheep (and is 85) proceeded to get in her truck, drive out to the bear and shoot at it, grazing the bear and making it run away. She had also killed several cougars that year who had raided her chickens.
Pretty terrible to think that there is a good chance this bear will get taken out. With domesticated animals, an apex predator usually realizes that they are an easy kill and will return to areas where domesticated animals are prevalent. If farmers have repeated problems in an area with bears/wolves/whatever, Fish and Wildlife comes in, and it's either relocation or lights out predator.

homebrewtube,
It looked that way, but that old ram was clearly worn out.
Also, sheep are not smart enough to think to do that.
I DO know a guy who once went fox hunting who personally witnessed the dog fox sacrifice himself so that his mate vixen fox would survive.
I am a hunter myself, but thinking back, even I wouldn't have the heart to shoot that dog fox in the face of such nobility.
