btw, it takes a hell of a lot of discipline to be in an original band- one that truly has a chance of getting a record deal. if you disagree, then i'd have to surmise that you've prob never been in one that has bust it's ass trying to get that elusive deal
what you wish to do is fine with me.entirely up to you. but let me ask you this....why don't you have the discipline to write your own songs/licks and be in an original band struggling for success, however modest or stratospheric that might be?
@PROFBOTULISM I find that to be a sentiment most commonly uttered by musicians in original bands who don't have the discipline or muscianship to learn someone else's guitar parts. For a lot of us, playing guitar is just fun, and what better way to do this than to play your favourite songs and have other people dig that?
i agree. i don't have the time, discipline or inclination to learn other people's songs or licks.i do have a unique gift and wish to channel it through my own music.
Other than the fact that you can make 4x as much per gig, thereby funding your original music and gear, while also having fun playing songs you love and providing enjoyment to people who want a nostalga trip or just a good time.
@PROFBOTULISM I find that to be a sentiment most commonly uttered by musicians in original bands who don't have the discipline or muscianship to learn someone else's guitar parts. Not everyone picks up a guitar and learns music in order to channel some unique gift they beleive they have. For a lot of us, playing guitar is just fun, and what better way to do this than to play your favourite songs and have other people dig that?
It's a 1987 Fender Stratocaster (Made in Japan) with EMG pickups.
Since that clip, I've replace the neck twice, put in new pickups, and am currently painting it dark metallic blue w/ black abalone pickguard. Should have it back together again soon.
Good job and better than me, but your technique could use some refinement. Check yourself out again and try to smooth out your picking motions. It might help.
damn! but for the pickguard and pups i have an early 90s strat i stripped and stained that is identical to that. even with upper horn where those lines are-i think it is pieced-was that guitar a solid color at one time?
Very nice Job! I agree with TaylorGilmour. The tricky part about imitating someone like Warren/Randy/George is getting the vibrato down and it seems like you have the "Warren" vibrato down. Nice job. Someone should give a lesson on how to get that "Warren" vibrato HINT HINT.
I need to get my ass in gear and learn this. It will likely take me five years to play like you did (if I ever do). I played part-time for two year and then basically stopped. And whoever said that part about the difficulty of this solo, you're right. it is insanely hard like most of the stuff by DiMartini. Malmsteen once said that Jake E Lee and DiMartini's stuff is among the most difficult to play.
dude we like the same music and you play great. I am a note for note soloer when I have the time. I hear so many where the phrasing and timing ar soo off, your are great. keep it up. I will have to post one day
No, I play original stuff all the time. When I get some live stuff up here from my band, you'll see. I haven't been working on original stuff recently because I have 2 cover bands going and have been learning that stuff. I improvise solos on some of that stuff, though. It's not like I CAN'T, if that's what you're getting at.....
Below the 12th fret, all the time. Not as much above the 12th fret, but I do for certain licks. I just go with what feels natural or if there isn't any other way to play something.
Hey guys, thanks....I'm gonna try to post Give It All and also No Surprise for another person, maybe by this weekend. I have to ge re-learn them first. :)
I haven't done a Warren solo for a while, so I'm due!
You are the first person that noticed, or said something! I could make up some elaborate reason, but honestly when I changed pickups I lost grip on the pick and kept going like Steve Morse with my middle finger holding it. I think I do it once in a blue moon for certain picking patterns, but it is all subconcious at this point.
wowowowow! another great solo from another great 80s player (who doesn't get enough credit IMO). WDM's signature speed licks are the focus, I think- a little faster playing would do it more justice. very good job...
Oh I happen to have those - wish they worked as well as yours! Gah you make me practice more I have to admit. Ever since hearing this and "In Your Direction" - I have to learn those before I die :)
Amazing, I've been trying to get this solo for almost a year and can't nail it like that! You should make some tabs or do an instructional!! You obviously have a great ear
So nice to see someone still appreciates Warren. Wasn't long ago there was nothing on youtube regarding De Martini. One of the most under appreciated players of the 80's. The guy was all feel. This is my favorite solo of his. Back For More is classic as well.
Very nicely done, especially doing the vibrato justice. De Martini and Lynch always inspired me to work on my vibrato, and they expressed so much more than just shred w/ it.
Come on snappy jacks- slow it down for us- you could make a contribution to one of the Guitar Online sites to make a few bucks! ( after you teach us first OK?)
he probably did it by ear. learning everything by ear is better, and makes all tha future songs you do easier. if you use tabs, ittle just make you kinda deff with your ear
Thanks a lot. That's the same 87 Strat as in the Morning After clip, but I changed the entire pickguard to a loaded EMG setup. I have the bridge set up like Jeff Beck's,with about 2 full steps of pull-up and floating so I can do those gargle noises I love. Need to get it to stay in tune better, though. Maybe locking tuners. Pretty happy with the tone overall, though. I actually wanted some Duncans or Joe Barden pickups, but decided to try the EMG setup for now.
Hahaha....thanks,man. I could do a lesson for you,but otherwise you gotta do what I did,and listen/watch over and over again! It's all right there for you.
thanks for posting I just needed a little help the only part I could get was the intro and the middle and end but none of those other weird timed phrase licks
You NAILED IT! Cheers, rock on!

Nice job! As close as anyone can get. If you had to replace the neck on that fender and doing a paint job, have it modified with a Floyd Rose
