  • You NAILED IT! Cheers, rock on!

  • btw, it takes a hell of a lot of discipline to be in an original band- one that truly has a chance of getting a record deal. if you disagree, then i'd have to surmise that you've prob never been in one that has bust it's ass trying to get that elusive deal

  • what you wish to do is fine with me.entirely up to you. but let me ask you this....why don't you have the discipline to write your own songs/licks and be in an original band struggling for success, however modest or stratospheric that might be?

  • @PROFBOTULISM I find that to be a sentiment most commonly uttered by musicians in original bands who don't have the discipline or muscianship to learn someone else's guitar parts. For a lot of us, playing guitar is just fun, and what better way to do this than to play your favourite songs and have other people dig that?

i agree. i don't have the time, discipline or inclination to learn other people's songs or licks.i do have a unique gift and wish to channel it through my own music.

  • One of the best solo ever done in rock!

DeMartini is a genius! And you play it so nicely man!

    Awesome! I really enjoyed listening!

  • cover/tribute bands are utterly pointless. a waste of effort and musicianship

  • @PROFBOTULISM

Other than the fact that you can make 4x as much per gig, thereby funding your original music and gear, while also having fun playing songs you love and providing enjoyment to people who want a nostalga trip or just a good time.

  • @PROFBOTULISM I find that to be a sentiment most commonly uttered by musicians in original bands who don't have the discipline or muscianship to learn someone else's guitar parts. Not everyone picks up a guitar and learns music in order to channel some unique gift they beleive they have. For a lot of us, playing guitar is just fun, and what better way to do this than to play your favourite songs and have other people dig that?

  • how long did it take you to learn this?

  • what kind of pickups are you rocking?

  • Nice job! As close as anyone can get. If you had to replace the neck on that fender and doing a paint job, have it modified with a Floyd Rose

  • You owned it,as the black folks say.

  • impressive! Trying to learn this song myself, but thinking this solo is gonna stop me in my tracks lol, so fair play! :)

  • Hey, what kind of amp/effects are you using to get that sound? Thanks in advance...

  • OMG

  • This is awesome, not many people can even attempt any of Warren's solos but you got it down.Serious

  • Comment removed

  • hey, what guitar is that?

  • @brunomdn

It's a 1987 Fender Stratocaster (Made in Japan) with EMG pickups.

Since that clip, I've replace the neck twice, put in new pickups, and am currently painting it dark metallic blue w/ black abalone pickguard. Should have it back together again soon.

  • @giantrobot9000 Those EMG pickups sound great. How much you paid for them man?

  • Perfect, EMGs rule

  • NOICE!

  • dude u should totally make a freestyle video

  • great solo. some really brilliant licks in it

  • great cover man all your covers are great if you want any ratt tablature books to any album cept infestation and 99' let me know

  • Good job and better than me, but your technique could use some refinement. Check yourself out again and try to smooth out your picking motions. It might help.

  • fuckin awesome

  • Fucking A, great tone

  • dude! nice.....good tone

  • Nailed...gold star.

  • frikken awesome man!

  • whoever the hell put thumbs down on this video is a foolish douchebag and obviously has no idea about guitar playing and music.

  • Very clean bro, and very nicely done.

  • damn! but for the pickguard and pups i have an early 90s strat i stripped and stained that is identical to that. even with upper horn where those lines are-i think it is pieced-was that guitar a solid color at one time?

  • Excellent!

  • look at these jealous losersV..dude that was perfect 5 stars

  • Very nice Job! I agree with TaylorGilmour. The tricky part about imitating someone like Warren/Randy/George is getting the vibrato down and it seems like you have the "Warren" vibrato down. Nice job. Someone should give a lesson on how to get that "Warren" vibrato HINT HINT.

  • little delay and chorus and it would be the total perfect sound, you got the solo down tho man

  • AWESOME! THANKS!

  • SCRUMTRULESCENT!!!

  • F'n Amazing! :)

is there anyway you could post a tab for this?

I've always wanted to play this song full.

  • hey dude you should give out online guitar lessons, I'd pay to learn off ya.

  • Wow ! Great job

  • I need to get my ass in gear and learn this. It will likely take me five years to play like you did (if I ever do). I played part-time for two year and then basically stopped. And whoever said that part about the difficulty of this solo, you're right. it is insanely hard like most of the stuff by DiMartini. Malmsteen once said that Jake E Lee and DiMartini's stuff is among the most difficult to play.

  • Kick ass man!!

  • seriously i know this doesnt look too hard or too fast but this is insanely hard. The phrasing and how you have to pick shift is insane. respect lol

  • Thanks for the nice comments, everyone!

  • sweet

  • Danngggg man, that's what I'm sayin, you should play it over backing track! That was insanely awesome

  • dude we like the same music and you play great. I am a note for note soloer when I have the time. I hear so many where the phrasing and timing ar soo off, your are great. keep it up. I will have to post one day

  • Sounds pretty exact. How long did it take you to cop that?

  • WOW. definitely the best version of this solo on youtube...

  • Nice! But, can you play any Matthew Leo?

  • Nope. Not a lick. Sorry.

No, I play original stuff all the time. When I get some live stuff up here from my band, you'll see. I haven't been working on original stuff recently because I have 2 cover bands going and have been learning that stuff. I improvise solos on some of that stuff, though. It's not like I CAN'T, if that's what you're getting at.....

  • can u tab that dude?

  • Good Job man!

  • what kind of pickups you got?

  • EMGs

  • Excellent job friend!......Keep Rockin!

  • Good stuff, do you use your pinky finger at all when soloing?

  • Below the 12th fret, all the time. Not as much above the 12th fret, but I do for certain licks. I just go with what feels natural or if there isn't any other way to play something.

  • Hey that was really awsome you do DeMartini really well... Could post his solo for Give It All?

  • Agreed. I wanna see Give It All. My favorite song off that album.

    Amazing cover BTW!

  • Hey guys, thanks....I'm gonna try to post Give It All and also No Surprise for another person, maybe by this weekend. I have to ge re-learn them first. :)

    I haven't done a Warren solo for a while, so I'm due!

  • at around 0.20 you change your picking, why?

  • You are the first person that noticed, or said something! I could make up some elaborate reason, but honestly when I changed pickups I lost grip on the pick and kept going like Steve Morse with my middle finger holding it. I think I do it once in a blue moon for certain picking patterns, but it is all subconcious at this point.

  • im not really into active pickups, but DAMN!!! They sound really good in a strat dude!! Your playing is phenominal too!!!

  • @fender51503, just like how Ratt had tattoos they called Ratt Tatts, there should be Ratt Strats.

  • Dude excellent cover my friend Warren DiMartini is the man

  • wowowowow! another great solo from another great 80s player (who doesn't get enough credit IMO). WDM's signature speed licks are the focus, I think- a little faster playing would do it more justice. very good job...

  • which pick up do you use?

    Ste.

  • Fender Mediums are my favorite overall.

I used to use the green .88mm Dunlop Tortex a lot, too.

  • Oh I happen to have those - wish they worked as well as yours! Gah you make me practice more I have to admit. Ever since hearing this and "In Your Direction" - I have to learn those before I die :)

  • Amazing, I've been trying to get this solo for almost a year and can't nail it like that! You should make some tabs or do an instructional!! You obviously have a great ear

  • NICE! 5

  • are you playin a custom strat great work thumbs way up

  • Dude that was sick. I guess you dont need told your good?

  • very very very good! awesome! 5 star!

  • 5 star!

  • Dang....just awesome....Warren kicks ass on this song.....love your vibrato and bending technique...Great job, bro.

  • I've loved this song ever since hearing it at the end of Point Break in the early 90's. Brilliant job well done, man!

  • great tone, dude!

  • awesome job and sweet guitar

  • awesome!! mann!

good to see people covering demartini

    *bows*

  • So nice to see someone still appreciates Warren. Wasn't long ago there was nothing on youtube regarding De Martini. One of the most under appreciated players of the 80's. The guy was all feel. This is my favorite solo of his. Back For More is classic as well.

Very nicely done, especially doing the vibrato justice. De Martini and Lynch always inspired me to work on my vibrato, and they expressed so much more than just shred w/ it.

  • Come on snappy jacks- slow it down for us- you could make a contribution to one of the Guitar Online sites to make a few bucks! ( after you teach us first OK?)

  • man yur good, how long u bin playin?

and whered u get the tab coz i cant find one

  • he probably did it by ear. learning everything by ear is better, and makes all tha future songs you do easier. if you use tabs, ittle just make you kinda deff with your ear

  • I can tell you're playing with EMG's or some active pickup. A shitload of punch.

  • Congratulations u NAILED that solo! Nice one!

    XDDDD

  • A real pleasure to listen to. That vibrato at the end is pure class.

  • Wow,thanks!

  • This was my favorite thing you've done.

I love the phrasing & the tone of this particular strat.

  • Thanks a lot. That's the same 87 Strat as in the Morning After clip, but I changed the entire pickguard to a loaded EMG setup. I have the bridge set up like Jeff Beck's,with about 2 full steps of pull-up and floating so I can do those gargle noises I love. Need to get it to stay in tune better, though. Maybe locking tuners. Pretty happy with the tone overall, though. I actually wanted some Duncans or Joe Barden pickups, but decided to try the EMG setup for now.

  • Dynamite..

  • holy shnikies

finally someone nails something on this site

can you slow it down for us mortals?

  • Hahaha....thanks,man. I could do a lesson for you,but otherwise you gotta do what I did,and listen/watch over and over again! It's all right there for you.

  • Very Good! Thanks a lot man, i appreciate it...

  • Greate solo man - just greate !!!!!!!! at last someone play it!!

  • Hell Yes!!!!!!! Rock on Matt!

    Jim

  • thanks for posting I just needed a little help the only part I could get was the intro and the middle and end but none of those other weird timed phrase licks

  • man ...wish I could play that fluidly and quick..good stuff keep posting more!
