they never tried to be cool, didnt even look it but yet cos of their contribution to 90s music and the quality of their albums they are one of the coolest in a long time.2 days to go and il see them live in auckland!!!!!!!!
It's funny to think, and you can read it for yourselves in the deluxe version of their first album that they didn't really know how to play their instruments. But that's still on of my favorite albums ever.
it may not have been complex but malkmus knew how to play guitar; and it sounds awesome on that first album and he became one of the all-time great guitarists at least in my view
Nah, read the liner notes on the double disc - they all say they really didn't know how to play there instruments and were basically messing around. It wasn't until Wowee Zowee where they really became good at it. But still - for not really being able to play it still was one of the best albums out there and is one of the most influential.
Pavement was a band that influenced all the other indie bands that came after the nineties. Pavement was one of the most creative, original and brilliant bands that existed. Here is my tribute. GENIUSES!
This is true i recall a plans era ben gibbard interview saying he was really influenced by pavement but hated major leagues clip as Malkmus was acting all goofty to a serious song. Love the vhs quality.
Best CCR cover I've ever seen. Granted, I don't listen to a lot of live music so it's the ONLY CCR cover I've ever seen, but still these guys are great. Just picked up a copy of Wowee Zowee... and... wow.
I remember watching this on the night it was broadcast, tuned in cos I was already a Pavement fan and it was so far above anything else on there, and still is pretty much untouchable as far as I'm concerned. Folkjam (2:40) is absolutey magnificent. Malkmus is a colossus.
This is a fantastic cover, and it makes me happy to see modern bands covering such classics (My Chemical Romance even did a cover of "Fortunate Son" which was pretty good). The jam, too...my god. I'm definitely going to be checking out more of Pavement.
I would disagree with labeling it as "untouchable" for one reason, though. The screaming at 0:19 and 0:23 that they repeat throughout the song...I don't get it. Everything is so good, but that one inclusion just sounds horrible.
Yeah I totally gotta say Crooked Rain Crooked Rain...And the Slanted And Enchanted...But it may take you awhile to get into Slanted but once you do, it's absolutely amazing
Just think -some people will have seen this on Later and thought wow thats a great rock band... I can't wait for their next album... Doh!! Malkmus still rocks though
Thanks so much for putting this on. I caught this on Later after one of the most stressful journeys of my life getting a choppy ferry with the family from Poole to Jersey only to find our hotel room was double-booked. Seeing Malkmus do his thing later that night was like having an old friend welcoming me to journey's rest.
Sweet tape effects during the solo.

Wow- not many guitarists can rip out a guitar run as nasty and sinister as John
Fogerty. SM is criminally underrated as a guitarist.

So how was the show. I don't get to see them until the fall. I am dieing to know. Can't wait for for the reunion.

it was sensational, the band seemed a bit
nervous at first(except for the drummer).
ending the show with spit on a stranger
was beautiful and during the show i finally
appreciated how good of a guitar player stephen
malkmus is,the highlight was definetly
stereo though

Folk Jam sounds amazing. The solo is quite fresh. I especially like the vocals at 4:56 and 5:46 (Bob actually not screaming!)

The guitar solos are just so great, sort of an indicator of the genious he now displays on his solo records. Malkmus is a genious
