  • Sweet tape effects during the solo.

  • needs john fogerty singing.

  • Good I remember this going out on Jools Holland! 11 years ago????? I was absolutly transfixed, and the passion of Bob Nastanovich, amazing!

    Perfect Sounds Forever!!!!!!

  • Wow- not many guitarists can rip out a guitar run as nasty and sinister as John

Fogerty. SM is criminally underrated as a guitarist.

  • parden my birth i just slipped out

    origins i can't brag about.....

  • MORE COW BELL

  • they never tried to be cool, didnt even look it but yet cos of their contribution to 90s music and the quality of their albums they are one of the coolest in a long time.2 days to go and il see them live in auckland!!!!!!!!

  • So how was the show. I don't get to see them until the fall. I am dieing to know. Can't wait for for the reunion.

  • it was sensational, the band seemed a bit

nervous at first(except for the drummer).

ending the show with spit on a stranger

was beautiful and during the show i finally

appreciated how good of a guitar player stephen

    malkmus is,the highlight was definetly

    stereo though

  • It's funny to think, and you can read it for yourselves in the deluxe version of their first album that they didn't really know how to play their instruments. But that's still on of my favorite albums ever.

  • it may not have been complex but malkmus knew how to play guitar; and it sounds awesome on that first album and he became one of the all-time great guitarists at least in my view

  • Nah, read the liner notes on the double disc - they all say they really didn't know how to play there instruments and were basically messing around. It wasn't until Wowee Zowee where they really became good at it. But still - for not really being able to play it still was one of the best albums out there and is one of the most influential.

  • hahah, Bob owns so much.

  • Pavement was a band that influenced all the other indie bands that came after the nineties. Pavement was one of the most creative, original and brilliant bands that existed. Here is my tribute. GENIUSES!

  • This is true i recall a plans era ben gibbard interview saying he was really influenced by pavement but hated major leagues clip as Malkmus was acting all goofty to a serious song. Love the vhs quality.

  • I couldn't agree with you more....

  • Seconded! Hurrah for the reunion!!

  • Cool, i have been looking to see that again for years!

  • Best CCR cover I've ever seen. Granted, I don't listen to a lot of live music so it's the ONLY CCR cover I've ever seen, but still these guys are great. Just picked up a copy of Wowee Zowee... and... wow.

  • LOL at the quick edits.

    Amazing songs though.

  • I remember watching this on the night it was broadcast, tuned in cos I was already a Pavement fan and it was so far above anything else on there, and still is pretty much untouchable as far as I'm concerned. Folkjam (2:40) is absolutey magnificent. Malkmus is a colossus.

  • This is a fantastic cover, and it makes me happy to see modern bands covering such classics (My Chemical Romance even did a cover of "Fortunate Son" which was pretty good). The jam, too...my god. I'm definitely going to be checking out more of Pavement.

I would disagree with labeling it as "untouchable" for one reason, though. The screaming at 0:19 and 0:23 that they repeat throughout the song...I don't get it. Everything is so good, but that one inclusion just sounds horrible.

  • The guitar solos are just so great, sort of an indicator of the genious he now displays on his solo records. Malkmus is a genious

  • where I can I find "Sinister Purpose" ? There is no Album I think where it's on it..

  • It was released on any studio album sadly :(

  • I don't think they ever released a studio version of it, but you can find a live performance on the Slow Century DVD.

  • @TheCousin666 john fogerty wrote sinister purpose its creedance clearwater revival song

  • which album of pavement is the best???

    im newcomer to their music!!!!!!AMAZING!!!!

  • 'Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain' IMHO

  • Yep Crooked Rain or Wowee Zowee

  • wowee zowee! then slanted

  • Yeah I totally gotta say Crooked Rain Crooked Rain...And the Slanted And Enchanted...But it may take you awhile to get into Slanted but once you do, it's absolutely amazing

  • Wowee Zowee!

    Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain

    Slanted and Enchanted

    In that order.

  • Anyone have a live "Mama said" video?

  • not crazy about the first song

  • Sweet, two of my favorite bands ever, two American giants of rock! Green River is a great album, of course Pavement are/were fantastic.

  • PAVEMENT RE-YAHN-YUN!

  • Just think -some people will have seen this on Later and thought wow thats a great rock band... I can't wait for their next album... Doh!! Malkmus still rocks though

  • Will someone please post the song: Old to Begin for crying out loud!

  • This is wondrous.

    Thank you so much.

  • This song was an original by creedence clearwater revival

  • I love Folk Jam, its like one of the most underrated Pavement songs.

  • Amazing

  • Hey! This is quite good! Fun to see that other bands than mine plays this "Forgotten" Song from Green River!

  • jools getting the album title wrong! "terror BY twilight"...d'oh

  • The world is lacking without Pavement still rocking...

  • awesome

  • very nice

  • Legends!

  • Thanks so much for putting this on. I caught this on Later after one of the most stressful journeys of my life getting a choppy ferry with the family from Poole to Jersey only to find our hotel room was double-booked. Seeing Malkmus do his thing later that night was like having an old friend welcoming me to journey's rest.

  • Thank you so much for this
