Newfoundlanders say 'about' like 'aboot' As far as I know being a canadian I say 'about' :P That being said, I personally was raised by my mother who was raised in an Americanized school. So I know words the American and Canadian way. It's quite strange. In the end, we all say the same words in English and they all mean the same thing.

the about/aboot thing is just an exaggeration. yes, no one in canada says abOOt, but they do pronounce the "ou" more like "oo", in general. I lived in both countries (vancouver/seattle), and there definitely is a difference, but it is not as pronounced as they are making it. I can even tell instantly wether a television show is canadian based on the accent. the stereotype doesn't just come out of thin air.
