  • Good, but it will be better if you have prepared the material, empty de sharpener for example.

  • what kind of paper do you need to use?and eraser?

  • great tutorial... =) thanks Sir William.

  • i love how he pulls out a huge ass broom to sweep the eraser shreds

  • CAn somebody tell me how can i sharpen a charcoal pencil...cause i tried many times...and i only break de tip! =(

  • What I want to know is what soft charcoal is used for and what hard charcoal is used for.

  • @daisy125769 soft charcoal is darker and harder chacoal is lighter. 9B being the softest and 9H being the hardest. the harder the finer the line and the harder the more bold it is. for me it just helps when im trying to do a portrait i use the harder pencil for all the lighter areas and areas like the eyes where you need a finer tip to do the smaller areas. and when i want to do areas that are darker i use the softer lead. i hope i helped at all.lol.

  • @ryanmh23 i mean the softer the more bold.lol

  • 1:06 He said hard on!!

  • What causes the charcoal to lift when blending? Even when I am going back in to darken my darkest areas the previous charcoal sometimes lifts away. Is there any thing that can prevent this? Do you think it may be because of temp./ moisture in the air? Sometimes it happens & other times not. Thanks.

  • @artnuwa11 do you use regular copy paper because i noticed the same thing when using copy paper. but when use my more coarse drawing paper it never does that. maybe its the type of paper. hope i could help

  • @ryanmh23 I use canson mi teintes ( high quality, made for charcoal). I think I may have figured it out. The technique I use blocks in all really dark areas & a lighter charcoal application over the entire piece. I then smear it away. Going back in making dark areas darker & lifting the light areas. I think there may be a static charge from the smearing. I noticed if I allow some time in between the smear & next application of charcoal it adheres. Thanks for the reply!

  • Instead of shading with my bare hands I like to wrap a piece of tissue around my finger. It also blends better.

  • Thanks

  • where can you buy this stuff?

  • @Roastkilla123 go to a art store like Michael's

  • COOL RUBBER! how much was it??

  • keep it up! a Lot of PeopLe needs to Learn from you....

  • great so how do we go about buying all this shit, seeing as you didnt name a single thing.

  • @ellectriclobster

Nice language. The guy said plenty moron. Actually use your brain instead of having someone force feed you your thoughts. Hello, McFly! Anyone home? Art? Drawing? Charcoal pencils? Art/hobby supply store? Anything computing, yet? You got it now? Keep researching instead of acting like a douchebag and you'll bring home the right items for your project instead of Kingsford for grilling steaks. When i hear ppl like this i just hand em a pacifier i always have handy. : )

  • @Slant81 sorry for my rage , pretty ashamed, your right slant =/

  • @ellectriclobster

No prob bud. I'm sorry myself for sounding so self righteous and calling you out. I was having an aweful day.

Plz accept my apology as well and thanks for your apology. Have a good one bud.

  • @Boredude78 Read the title " Art Supplies for Charcoal Drawing "

  • that was so stupid I got mad.

  • they really need to make there videos less boring cuz all i hear is blah blah blah blah blah

  • @Missdrewdrawdrawn o quiet who cares if it's boring at least you get some advice though

  • what is the name of the yellow eraser?

  • 1:12-1:22 these can be sharpened the way that they are, and will leave you a very nice tip when done so...... pencil tip breaks Lmao XD

  • @cococalop LOL i thought i was the only one that noticed xD

  • @blueverry27 : Well, what brand that you prefer...

  • you are pro

  • you are pro

  • what's this called ? 1:48

  • @z3r0p0in7 It's called a stump or tortillion. Be sure to get the ones that say "made in Taiwan" and not "made in China". For whatever reason, the ones made in China are MUCH too hard and literally don't work *at all* -seriously. They just scratch up your paper.

  • @z3r0p0in7 it's a blending stump :)

  • To get rid of the subtitles press the 'cc' button on the bottom right of the screen.

  • I hate it that the subtitles always block what there doing.

  • The guy doesn't know what he's talking about. For Christ's sake some of the pencils he's showing are Derwent graphite, not charcoal.

  • @ChadSmith1452 he says some of them are more graphite than charcoal if you pay attention or are you just trying to find something to moan about

  • @GILLYRUTH That's like saying a bottle of ketchup is more ketchup than mustard.

I wasn't looking for anything to moan about, but for anyone who might be, "expert" village gives them plenty.

  • hey, why do i down this video but it dont have sub :(

  • :O I HAVE THOOSE. ouuuu my school gave us em for free to work with. though we only had about 3-4 vareity of the black chaarcoall, we also got the 3 brown covered charcoal with the white one too. they work excellently =]

  • expertvillage is useless

  • anybody notice how he said hard on at one point?

  • Hope this dude draws better than he sharpens his pencils!!!!

  • Piece of shit

  • FUCK EXPERTVILLAGE

  • finally! it's called a highlight pencil! been looking for that kind of pencil! tnx man this video is a good help! :D

  • god i see why people hate these videos. it's like there are little bits of useful info in every one but you gotta wach a million videos to get a good amount of info. why didn't they just combine everything into one video?????????? i don't get it.

  • He needs a haircut...

  • how come this fuck bag do not respond back to us

  • nice video

  • which charcoal (hard or soft) is great for drawing portrait?

  • @mila203 you use a combination of both, sharp or dark details and soft for skin and hair etc. Often times a final portrait will have layers of both soft and hard in the same place.

  • @T0RK

thank you. it helps, since i'm a beginners for using charcoal for drawings.

  • Angelaxoxox if you live in england there is a shop called THE WORKS which sell art supplies or you can get them from WHSMITHS. I dont know about anywhere else but thats where i get my supplies from. hope this helped :)

  • where can i buy these at i want to find pencils that i can draw with ans sketch and shade with also what kind of color pencils are good for coloring in some of my are drawings i don't shop online so just a store that has these kinds of pencils

  • This is great!!!!

  • "these can leave you with a very nice tip"..*sharpens pencil* reveals shit blunt tip because charcoal pencils are so hard to sharpen!

  • I have the pencil at 0:40 and i dunno how to get the charcoal out, he said just to peel but it's not that easy to know where to peel, if u know how to, message back.

  • There should be a string protruding from the pencil at the point. Pull the string down and away from the point. Grab the covering at the tear and peel away the cover. It should peel away in a spiral.

  • in the beginning of the video, the two pencils on the left look like regular graphite to me, not charcoal.

  • um, i just got charcoal pencils for christmas...i hav no idea how to use them...is there any good tutorials that are easy to follow for beginners...?

  • @oOKibaRoxOo look for theportraitart and you see what you can do with them.

  • Black pencils---derwent---best pencils out there!

    made in england

  • * aghem... on behalf of bullsh*t village...

  • i hate expertvillage so much

  • @PowerShotHo24 God, they're just terrible aren't they? The obvious quip is irresitable: "amateur villiage" is much more like it.

  • @PowerShotHo24 lol >.<

  • 0:50 i have that same pencil sharpener

  • lol am i the youngest here? gr.7

  • @iplumzer Im on grade 7 too!!!!!!

  • awesome.

  • but the lead breaks whenever i sharpen it and the tip is so broad that i cannot do details

    help me pls

  • sharpen your charkole pencils with an xacto knife. (aim the blade away from you)

  • i learned that the hard way,

jk lol i just got some and i was wondering how your supposed to sharpen them :p

  • lol

take a knife/ blade and cut the wood off/ skin untill u see the led

  • nice hair

  • 1:20 i dont like using pencil sharpener on my charcoal pencil cuz it could break the lead inside and leaving it on the sharpener once u pulled it cuz it's soft.. i prefer using blade for sharpening the tip of my pencil.. it can cause less breakage.

  • agreed

  • there is a very big diff between pastels and charcoal!!

  • Good Info

  • look at his fuking nails!..

  • i know right haha

  • what kind of paper should i use for drawing with charcoal or pastels?

  • look for drawing paper that says 70 lbs or somewhere around there...

  • charcoal paper, just ask on a fine arts material store.

  • anybody who knows what their doing doesnt sharpen their charcol pencils with a regular pencil sharpener. got to break out the exacto knife and sand paper. also i would reccomend vine or willow charcol as a part of your basic tools

  • No it's Ok

  • hey he forgot the color charcoal

  • you mean pastels

  • Oh so that how the weird gray eraser works, I have one and I didn´t know how da hell use It

  • you knead it with your fingers and get it maleable and just sculpt it into a shape you wanna use it, then erase it.

  • I'd like to see the highlight pencils use on a portrait figure... and true, a tutorial of what kind of papers we should use for landscapes, portraits, abdstract, objects, would be pretty useful now

  • i want that gray eraser that molds into what shape you want it to go in

  • its called a kneaded eraser you can get them at pretty much any craft store for under 1.00

  • It's always hard.. My art teacher makes me only one kind of charcoal

  • Bill can you comment on what type of paper to use for charcoal drawing? Is a regular sketch pad ok? Thx.

  • yes.

  • sry but I just wanted to add that newsprint works very well too.

  • Newsprint should NOT be used for a final piece. Newsprint is a cheap paper used for sketching. It is flimsy and will not work well. Try quality paper and you will immediately know the difference.

  • Ooh Im always blending with my finger. I need to get to an art store and buy more blending sticks!

  • i hate when charcoal smears, and you cant erase the smear cause charcoal is preety hard to erase with out smearing again,

  • not with the kneaded eraser, and if you dont smear with your finger

  • You're a better teacher than my art teacher, thanks ;)
