was there too,16 years old, almost hit Tommy Vance with an apple (got a bit of a cheer lol) Slade were awesome too .Still love AC/DC ,seen em propably 6 times over the years.Watch out for bottles of p*ss ! lol
My first AC/DC concert. I was fresh 18 and had just got my first motorbike (Kawasaki Z 1100 MKII). We rode with 28 bikers from germany to Donington. So f... great!
I guess, this recordng is from the German Television, because this guy at the beginning talks in German language. For example he says, that Angus is 21 years old, but that's wrong, because we all know hat he was 26 at that time.
i have this one two on video. it wasnt meant to be shwon really its just like a news clip. i wih i could find this whole show on video ! im sure they didnt make much on film though
@Ironfootx hey i was there my first ever gig ,i was 13 no less went with my brother, great memorys, blackfoot were also superb as were whitesnake their best line up for me,i also went in 82 i;m looking for hawkwind stuff from that day anyone got any?
I was there too. I can't understand why there is so little film footage of this festival on youtube as the whole event was filmed, as was the previous years Monsters of Rock which was the first, (which i was also at).
wonderful memories, all the way from essex to this place, sleeping in buss shelters and fields. All of us getting lost then finding my mate egg - by chance in 80,000 people as ACDC came on. Slade great, Whitsnake good a few tecnical probs, The amazing Blackfoot kicking ass - so many great memories
I was there to blue oyster cult were shit i loved everything else .slade were ace i reckon i was the smallest kid there i was thirteen and looked about ten managed to squeeze right to the front against the bar.. first time i'd seen so much stuff flying through the air..missed coach home and sat on the floor of a midland red bus back to brum .
Never forget that day, slade were great.Remember the terrible BOC set and the crowd getting pissed off.Blackfoot rocked, whitesnake were slightly dissapointing but AC/DC were pure magic. Pissed down all day. Managed to get to Birmingham station and loads of us slept at the station all night. Do you remember they opened the shop at 4am for us? Got home sunday teatime looking like a tramp. Thanks Jim,i will always remember you.
Yup dude, I agree, whatta experience ...Slade, they did an astonishing performance, far better than I ever could imagine they were capable of, I think Whitesnake were magic, at least what I can remember ;)
i was also there and it was great. Things are just so corporate and up their own arse now. Even getting tickets you have touts ripping people off and you pay for everything.
Apparently during this concert, AC/DC's bass amp blew out because of the f-ing BBC using up all the power. Apparently, the one of the heads of the band's road crew, Ian Jeffrey, was blazing pissed about it.
It wasn't during the concert, it was right before they went on, and they were already an hour late going on because it was raining so bad. 1/2 the sound system collapsed because the BBC pulled out of of the mains of electricity and plugged in their thing and blew the bass end of the PA. And nobody knew about it, and once they found out, there was nothing they could do. Ian Jefferey was the Tour Manager at the time and him and all the band members were reduced to tears after the show.
I was there 17 years old fantastic day camped overnight 4 of us in a beer filled 2 man tent. AC/DC were ace, loved slade in the rain. Still got the T shirt, daughters going to wear it at Glasto this year, it no fit me now!
i was there 80 odd thousand ppl .....camp fires .....black ...silence then a bell comin down....a few beats on the bell then spotlight on angus ,i was 16 and will remember it for the rest of my days ......let alone the bolllocking i got gettin home to chester at 6 in the mornin !!!!
i was there...Blackfoot were undoubtably the best band of the day.Blue Oyster Cult were terrible.I was up at the front most of the day and remember the water running through the canvas roof down the AC/DC bell cable and pissing all over the stage.Much to the annoyance of Noddy Holder.
Kinda remember More.I had the "Warhead" album.Don't remember anyone slagging DC off..that was the best lineup ever though.Moody on slide Paice on drums Coverdale in his prime.Went to the back for AC/DC i was totally spent.Great days..i was 16.
I was 16 too and I was also a physical wreck by the end. We stood in the crowd from the start and got to the front for Whitesnake & AC/DC. Didn't drink or eat all day. I think death was just moments away
I was there, it was amazing, i was 11 years old, incredible to think Angus was only 21 !The lineup was superb but not sure why BOC were playing ? I remember there drummer got sick and the roadie stood in ! Blackfoot were awesome and slade were great fun. It pissed it down all day and i kicked my poor mum in the head as i was on my stepdads shoulders when AC/DC came on ... We are off to see them in April except im 38 and my Mum is 65 now and still rocking ! Cant wait - great rare post - thanks
I was there too. Do you remember More being bottled? Someone threw a grapefruit & it hit the guitarist (Kenny Cox). It pissed it down during Slade's set but they were good. I didn't enjoy the canopy of piss filled, plastic, cider bottles that erupted mid afternoon
lol..bottling the 1st band of the day was a great tradition.I don't think the bands took it too personally..can't remember how motley crue went down in '84.Thinking back though ie.not really minding the mud..piss..sweat..£5 for a grit burger etc..reminds me of how much i must have loved the music.Life seems to file down the passion in stuff.
I'm still listening to & loving UFO, Saxon, Sabbath, Priest, Motorhead, Lizzy, Scorpions etc but my days of standing up to my eyebrows in clay & piss to listen to it are long gone. Glad I grew up in this era. I'd hate to be a kid with today's insipid bands.
Aw sure..my ipod is stuffed with 99% of all the stuff i had and didn't have from the 70's 80's.I even have the AC/DC set from this gig on there for old times sake.I do remember Whitesnake that earling evening having camera-men flying about.I was thinkin'...cool this is gonna be on telly next week.Still waitin'....
What a day, my first festival aged 14. Bloody brilliant. Blackfoot and Slade were excellent. BOC were naff, whilst Whitesnake were still in their pre American big hair days (i.e. they were still good!!!). AC/DC were fantastic. Happy memories.
me too. can remember gettin piss wet thru when blackfoot and slade were on .i was only 14 and got totally pissed on sherry. ac/dc were awesome ........ so were whitesnake great days
i was there only 13 at the time but was amazed by it all at the time, wo0rshipped angus and the boys then and cant wait for new album to come and see them for about the 20 th time later this year hopefully
I read about this in one of the books. The PA was fucked up. Part of it got unplugged for some other crew, so there was no bottom end in the PA, just mids and high. Mal was fuckin pissed about it.
I remember it well bottle fight during slade who were great as were Blackfoot and whitesnake ,AC/DC were top notch but the recordings do not do it justice or is it my old feeble mind 45 now Ha Ha
hey i was there my first ever gig ,i was 13 no less went with my brother, great memorys, blackfoot were also superb as were whitesnake their best line up for me,i also went in 82 i;m looking for hawkwind stuff from that day anyone got any?

I was there also, i was 17 years old. Now im 43 and embittered by life, it all goes so very quick. I remember Slade been brilliant and Blackfoot, i even remember the 1st act on they were called "MORE" a bit crap they were, thought Blue Oyster Cult were boring. Whitesnake were awsome as is normal.
i was their august 22nd 1981 and i wish i had kept the t shirt, threw it out 5 years ago, still in mint condition. great gig, slade also on this bill and blue oyster cult and whitesnake.
I read the other day, that the PA system got blown out (thx to some idiots from the TV) and they played the whole set with no bass (think it can be clearly heard).
me too, saw better show year after queen at elland road, with heart can you believe and teardrop explodes, great days saw all the big gigs up north, never made reading or knebworth.
