  • What a boss.

  • tthe best

  • I looked up Lenny Bruce cause i posted REM's "End of the world as we know it" today and Lenny Bruce is not afraid...

  • this is fucking great :)

  • Dosent hold up

  • haha--"This car was just used once.....in a suicide pact".........

  • FATBOY!

  • oh my god this is ridiculous! funny shit

  • Can you imagine if Lenny were doing this bit in our uptight times today??? He wouldn't last a week ...

  • still the most controversial observational satirists.

  • SOMEONE BETTER UPLOAD "FATBOY1

  • @vivascargill1 You're so right. Fatboy has to to be the funniest bit I ever heard him do. "A little lipstick around the exhaust pipe" never gets old.

  • @jab3785 SOMEONE UPLOAD FATBOY!!

  • genius

  • sloaches top

  • I wonder what would could have been written with Paul Mooney & Lenny Bruce in the same room?

  • haha its every cliche in the book.. he's making fun of the ignorance on the white side that segregation created.. brilliant..

  • @gatesart -As the "token black" on many occasions in the '60s &'70s, I had to put up with that sort of thing quite often. In an effort to demonstrate their lack of prejudice, some white folks would try to make small talk by complementing a well known black or by talking in slang. Others would address me as "Brother" or tell me stories about the cool black guy they knew in the Army or in school. It was all so silly & unnecessary.

  • he is making fun of bigoted people

  • Ok I'm black and not offended at all the guy had talent its only jokes people.

  • The original social humorist doing what lenny did best!

Tell it like it was at a time when things were so innocent!

    Long live Lenny Bruce!!:)

  • Cream of Wheat box - roflmao hahahaha!!!

  • do you think he's serious? because i want to try this with some of MY colored friends- but don't want to risk getting punched in my face. understand.

  • A TRUE COMEDIAN CAN POKE FUN AT ANY AND EVERY BODY.

    LENNY BRUCE WAS NOT AFRAID.

  • Sounds like the inspiration for Archie Bunker

  • You ain't gotta tell it like it is Lenny!

  • there'd be no carrot top without lenny.

  • @allogenes37 fuck carrot top

  • @AbattoirDream Juice him.

  • timeless

  • What was shockingly unacceptable then is too cerebral today. DUH!

  • All the comments about not being able to do intelligent humor like this because it would be regarded as too offensive or not P.C. are as ignorant as the devices that took lenny bruce down.

There was a very successful televions show that did bits like this every episode. All in the Family anyone? Archie Bunker ring a bell... goddamn bruce even sounds like the inspiration for that character here.

  • @superjackson73 I agree 100% .

  • Coca-Cola and white women ruined my life too!

Just TRY and do a bit like this today.

The goddamn NAACP, JDL, ACLU etc. and their lawyers would all be up your ass so fast!

Lenny, thanks to you, our founding fathers, and free thinkers everywhere, for trying to keep our right to freedom of speech free!

  • :45

"There are very few colored people at parties, which does not make the people who do not have colored people at the parties bigoted, because if you do not know colored people, to invite them as props is Crow Jim."

This is actually a brilliant joke, but he tries to be so unnecessarily fancy with his wording ("Crow Jim") that the punchline doesn't come through upon first hearing and probably gets missed by a lot of people listening. He's too clever for his own good there.

  • No one touches him...no one.....

  • This bit may seem dated now,but it didn't in 1960....

  • A true pioneer---the Charlie Parker of standup comedy!

  • @DavidKWegley He was a crazy guy.

  • @DavidKWegley Your welcome. Did Lenny Bruce appear in any movies?

  • @DavidKWegley But Will Rogers political humor was all in good fun, it wasn't offensive or controversial at all. From what I've heard Will Rogers wasn't mean-sprited at all or dirty like George Carlin or Bill Maher.

  • Lenny Bruce pretty much set the bar for comedy as we know it! This was Lenny in his prime form.

  • @DavidKWegley How do you equate Lenny Bruce with Mark Twain and Will Rogers?

  • @67nairb I don't know much about Will Rogers, but Mark Twain's writing shows a lot of similarities with a lot of the satire Lenny is using here. I mean it is more serious stuff with Mark Twain, but his outlooks seem to be very close.

  • here's to colored people. haha.

  • @DavidKWegley & ToolManDan82: Amen, Bruthas, Testify!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!!! This is the first time I think I laughed at one of Lenny Bruce's routines.

  • lenny bruce takes to long to say a fucking punch line

    i think this guy sucks

  • @Bigmercado - he was the original form of what i think of as clever, biting comedy. If you think it takes "too long", I fear you are kinda missing the point

  • @Bigmercado wrong!

  • Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, George Carlin & Bill Hicks--THAT'S ALL THAT COMEDY NEEDED..oh, and just a bit of Sam Kineson....

  • @AnimateDreams idiot!

  • @viddymeenow How about Rodney Dangerfield or Don Rickles???

  • hey, i think dane cook and carlos mencia blow as much as the next guy (that next guy being demetri martin). but do we have to mention these talentless fucks in the comment section of every single hicks, carlin and bruce video? its getting kind of old. instead of dwelling on these douche bags lets rejoice in the genius of REAL comedy. you feel me?

  • Can you imagine if Lenny Bruce or someone like him was doing a bit like this today??? Eric Holder would be all over his ass in minutes.

  • Oh, I forgot to add that most bigots think that they are too slick for anyone to figure out. I knew a few Italians in L.A. like that. They would say one thing to me and act another way when around the brothers and sisters. I found it so annoying that I used to pull the covers off them all the time and they grew to hate me! They still do. It was okay until a brother dared to date any attractive white chick, and then look out! It is still a scene but those bigots think they are so hip.

  • This is funny!!! He picks the most inane comments that I have actually heard from some people. Coca cola and white women did it to him. Most bigots are rather stupid and Lenny does his impressions of them so well.

  • This is funny!!!

  • Classic, pure comedy gold

  • Decades ahead of his time.

  • Dave Chappelle for LIFE.

  • "..and in the bit, I play the white guy."

Pure comedy gold! Had he lived longer, he wuld have blown Geore Carlin out of the water.

  • Comment removed

  • Too many people think of Lenny in todays world- - ya gotta remember this guy was using bits like this in the late 50,s- - except for beatnics and the" hip" society - he was vilified by the rest of society as a filthy mouthed pervert- -

A lot of what you hear in these clips isnt as funny, or shocking, unless you can imagine yourself hearing this 5 decades ago- - -Lenny, like him or not ,is a icon- opening the door for many others in the mid 60,s

  • @terripin99 You're right. You have to think of the total mindset in the 50's but because we've heard this and much more since his time... in today's world, many would have been on his level. Like you said, he paved the way.

  • @Retro255 -

Thanks brother ,I see ya get "it"

  • I think Sarah SIlverman doesn't get enough credit. Her jokes are actually pretty funny in my opinion and saying that she actually means it when she does racist jokes just goes to show that there are people dumb enough to see a COMEDIAN on STAGE with a MICROPHONE infront of them and still take them seriously . As far as comparing her to Lenny Bruce goes, it's apples and oranges. Comedy has greatly evolved since that era. The real problem is that some people can't take being shocked into laughter.

  • Wrong, comedy has seriously deteriorated since the time of Lenny Bruce, and offense is not even the point, you can't tell people what not to be offended by, their being offended does not validate the level or skill of the comedian. Being "shocked" into humor is a sign of the culture DUMBING DOWN and selling out, finding the lowest common denominator. Hell no, what makes you think comedy's evolved? You can't even compare, it's different TIMES!

  • It's not just about the shock value. If she were to get on stage and just say nigger, nigger, nigger, it wouldn't be funny. It's the clever way she delivers the joke that makes it funny. It doesn't matter anyways because dissecting comedy is dumb. We're talking about the most subjective art form here. If some one finds it funny then who are you to tell them it's not. The fact of the matter is, a lot of people like her. You're not going to convince anyone that their sense of humor is wrong.

  • "Dissecting comedy is dumb"? Sorry, dissecting anything is smart. Especially comedy. What I was trying to tell you exactly is that it's not a question of "funny or not", that's not an issue, because there are a lot of dumb people in this world with low standards and poor taste. Silverman knows that and she's aiming for the lowest common denominator. There's smart comedy and there's her kind of comedy, she never has much of a point. That's what I meant by cultural deterioration.

  • @metyuewb The more you dissect comedy, the less spontaneous it seems.

Now, I know that most comedy, especially stand up, is never really spontaneous, but what makes it funny is that it appears that way.

  • Sorry, you're really out in left field...good comedy is what it is, bad comedy is what it is, the virtues or faults of either have nothing to do with anyone analyzing it. No, there is nothing to make comedy "seem spontaneous" if it's not. Spontanaiety isnt even the issue. Its the brains behind it. The intention. That's what need "dissecting". Compare Silverman and Bruce and tell me which one's more authentic. And you'll see what I mean: not just as a comedian but as a person.

  • @metyuewb Oh well fuck, I'm not saying that Sarah Silverman is anywhere near as funny or influential as Lenny Bruce (even though I don't think she's terrible, just that Bruce was and still is a stand up God). And sure, there's more to comedy than getting laughs; there should be brains and intention behind it.

And all that stuff certainly CAN be analyzed and dissected. I'm just saying that for me personally, and I'm sure for many other people, it kills the joke to look too deeply into it.

  • It's not about the "joke" it's about the way of thinking. And if a joke IS good, the more you can analyze it and dissect it the FUNNIER it is, believe it or not. That's EXACTLY what good comedians know and that's how they create their material.

  • @TheBackOfTheBoat It's actually all in the way the comedian elaborates and dissects the joke, which all comes down to a matter of taste. Sometimes it kills it, other times it takes it to a new level depending on the audience and the delivery.

  • Dane Cook is a complete ass on top of being painfully unfunny. I used to work for a company that managed him, and I'd drop off packages to him to sign. He'd say "hold the door" and make me stand half in and half out of the door, holding it open like some kind of servant. Just rude and full of himself. Very Boston--I lived in Boston for seven years, it's full of jocks who are full of themselves, wearing white baseball hats and 90's ballchain necklaces. Just like him in his lame wifebeater.

  • It takes real talent to be original and funny. Something that Dane Cook, Jack Black, Daniel Tosh, Carlos Mencia, Sarah Silverman could learn.

  • 1st off i dont what political party you are apart of or represent, funny is funny, and sarah silverman is not that. 2. how dare you even drop her name on a lenny bruce video for comparrison- I wouldn't even compare funny comedians to the level of Lenny Bruce- the only ones who closely reach are George Carlin, Richard Pryor, and Bill Hicks, top 4 w/out a doubt.

  • @sil3ntxOblivion its not a bad comparison-you appearantly have never watched sarah silverman-im pretty sure lenny would be a big fan too

  • btw this board should be about lenny bruce; a real comedian, not a completely unoriginal 'comedian' who was lucky enough to get picked up by comedy central... during the time they screamed 'we need a new dave chappelle! please save us!!!'

  • @VashTheStampede525 You are right. If I sent any more posts, it will be about Lennie Bruce. Like, what did you guys think of the Dustin Hoffman movie about Lennie Bruce? Did he capture Bruce, or did the movie suck?

  • i think you people defending silverman are giving her WAAAYYYY too much credit. she's just a lame comedian doing washed out jokes. you should watch south parks 'Tale of Scrotie McBoogerballs' because thats exactly what your doing; reading way to much into her uninterlectual 'jokes'

  • You want to talk about racist? Look at all these comments lumping Sarah Silverman together with Lenny Bruce!

  • Substitute 'Joe Lewis' for 'Lebron James'.. 'BoJangles' for 'Jay Z'.. And 'Heb' for 'Mexican/Arab'.. This happens to me once a week.. Hilarious.

  • This is brilliant, if your too P.C. (the death of humour), don't comment, turn it off !

  • he and bill hicks gold

  • "The humor comes from the white person's concept of "How to relax people at parties" Bruce says.

Unlike Sarah Silverman, Bruce lets you know he is playing an idiot white guy not himself, and that he's attacking racism.

  • @000266617 I think the difference is Lenny thought the racism the poor White guy has is sad and pathetic, and the context that he displays it is hilarious and revealing, and Silverman would think the racism is fun and provocative, and she has no interest in the man or the context.

  • giles, I agree. Also Lenny clearly let the ignorance and hypocrisy of the racist be shown. (Since the racist is speaking to a black guy, he feels free to use a racial slur aimed at Jews, thinking the black guy won't mind.)

  • @TaliesenToo So him expressing his opinions in his own satiristic comedy is now an attempt to undermine our culture?

God, you must hate Geore Carlin, and all the other comedians he inspired.

  • @TaliesenToo oh it's your culture, ok

  • @000266617 No, I don't think Sarah Silvermann is racist. I think she assumes you laugh at racist jokes becuase racism itself is ridiculous, not the content of the racism. Mind you, I'm not a huge fan of hers, I just think it is a serious charge saying she thinks the racism is intrinsically funny.

I feel like a douche using the word 'intrinsic', sorry.

  • @jerryhello100 Honestly, you or I can't say for certain that Sarah Silverman is racist or that she is not. We don't have enough evidence either way. We can say for sure: 1. She is not as smart as Lennie Bruce. 2. She is stupid. 3. She is offensive to many when ,if she was smart, she could be like Lennie Bruce and be clear about what she is doing--if she is indeed trying to do it. 5. Her jokes come off as racist and not poking fun at racism as Lennie would do.

  • @000266617 I have not seen that much of her, but you seem to have a bone to pick with her. You probably just don't like her. Lot's of men don't like comedy coming from females, you're probably one of them. I kind of am. But I don't think she is stupid, nor do I see her jokes as racist.

One I can remember is that "people say the Jews killed Jesus. I'm one of the few that think it was the blacks." And then: " Good! I'd kill him again". This isn't serious racism.

  • @jerryhello100 Hello. It isnt a smart thing for a Jew to say about Christ, "Good I'd kill him again"

The MLK fart thing wasn't smart either.

She told the "Mexican lady told me she doesn't stink....You can't smell yourself" joke that sounds like 'serious racism" If you have to listen to a Jewish woman tell stories, listen to Sandra Bernhart or some other female comic. Have a good day.

  • @000266617 I didn't say it was smart; it's stupid, the silliness of it funny.

But yeah, that Mexican joke, I hadn't heard it, but it is a little ... racy.

I don't think she is anywhere near the league of Lenny Bruce, but still I don't think she is racist at heart. It's just in bad taste.

    Good day to you too.

  • @000266617 I think you've got it backwards; Sarah Silverman plays it closer to the bone than Bruce could get away with, as a part of her approach includes allowing the more-uninformed members of her audience to perceive her as an oblivious white person, one who is totally unaware of their own prejudices - Thereby making a comment on how pathetically easy it is to remain in that ignorant little bubble...

  • @wqnamisanthrope When Bruce plays a racist,he is obviously not being himself. Critcs have noted that when Silverman makes racist comments she goes on as Sarah Silverman-- herself, not with a different voice or clothes. She doesn't have someone introduce or introduce her character as Sarah Smuck or something. It's like "This is me, folks, Sarah Silverman" Then the audience laughs at her racist comments and not "how pathetically easy it is to remain in that ignorant little bubble..."

  • @000266617 I still think you're wrong - I think that Silverman is playing a character, one who is pointedly unaware of her own ignorance and boorishness. In other words, that of a clueless, self-satisfied idiot, sort of in the way that Sasha Cohen would simply show up as Borat (with no "introduction" for those unaware of who he actually was) and do stupid things. The cluelessness and conviction that oneself is an enlightened, unprejudiced person is a part of the joke.

  • @wqnamisanthrope Thanks for your comment and I respect your opinion. The problem when people make such statements is that they and Sarah Silverman give no clue whatsoever that" Silverman is playing a character, one who is pointedly unaware of her own ignorance and boorishness." While Bruce lets us know that , Silverman (if she is doing this), doesn't let us know and without at least hinting, there is no strong basis for the idea. (Notice Sasha Cohen goes out as "Borat" and as "Sasha Cohen" )

  • @wqnamisanthrope( that should be "Sasha Cohen goes out as Borat and not as Sasha Cohen" ) Anyway, in Swift's "A Modest Proposal" he says some shocking things, but at the end, in hints that he is really attacking the system.

  • @000266617 I understand your point. I just think that Silverman is keeping an absolutely straight face when she says shit like that...

I know white people without a racist bone in their body, who nonetheless innocently say racist things to people of different ethnicities, and when their offenses are explained to them, they're genuinely embarrassed...

Silverman is simply playing one of those kind of people, except with a big fat "I'm-Not-PREJUDICED!" / Politically Correct chip on her shoulder...

  • @wqnamisanthrope someone quotes Silverman as saying" I dont care if you think Im racist as long as you think Im a thin racist. " Something Bruce never, ever would have said, even high or drunk. Silverman is not very good at what she does.

  • @000266617 So? She's not TRYING to be Lenny Bruce. She's playing a narcissistic, smug, condescending jerk, a person totally unaware of her lack of social awareness...

  • @wqnamisanthrope the whole point is we know Lennie Bruce is playing an ignorant bigot racist. How do we really know Sarah Silverman is playing? Some assume and could be wrong without a speck to support the argument.

  • @000266617 Because I've been watching her career fairly closely for quite a while now. Most of her jokes are meta jokes , and the objects of derision are not minorities, but the sanctimonious PC-types who still tend to think that minorities can't make it on their own without the more-enlightened-than-thou crowd's help.

  • @wqnamisanthrope Her critics, however, do make some good points. One for example, is "Silvermans champions should acknowledge that the surface-level of her performance dovetails nicely with the right-wing brand of performative bigotry whose message is more along the lines of: We all know that black people are lazy and feminists are ugly lezzies, so Im going to be the only person brave enough to say it."

  • @000266617 But there's a big difference between the two approaches.

Yeah, there's a "surface-level" resemblance, as far as the shock value goes, but the conservatives aren't pretending that they're NOT prejudiced - Silverman is pretending that she's a person who DOESN'T think that she's prejudiced, even though she is. Yeah, the Conservative comedians go after minorities, but Silverman is going after people who mistakenly believe themselves to be "superior" to that kind of thinking..

  • @wqnamisanthrope when Sarah Silverman as Sarah Silverman says " Their dirty. Someone once caught me backstage and said, 'Guess what? Im a mexican and I dont stink'. And I felt so bad, I tried to express to her... you cant smell yourself" It really sounds like a "Conservative comedian" But you already admitted you could see my point, so I there is no need for me to continue it. Have a nice day.

  • @000266617 I think that Silverman was poking fun at the person's belief that Silverman actually believed the "They Stink" line herself...She was once again doing the condescending, "You-Poor-Foolish-But-Lovable-Minority" bit...

  • @wqnamisanthrope Wonder how people of Mexican desent took the "joke"? NBC apologized when she said "Chink" It comes across as just plain racist and the explanations sound like a PR person trying to get a racist off the hook.

  • @000266617 Well....Speaking as a guy who regularly bashes religion, I know that there are people who are truly offended...and then there are some people are DETERMINED to misinterpret what somebody else says, even after it's been outlined for them.

Look - I agree that when Silverman says "Chink", it's racism - But it's her CHARACTER'S racism, not hers. I think that it's baiting, not minorities, but PC-types who think that they look hip by deriding racism, but don't do anything else about it.

  • Bruce is here using racist humor which he delivers in the persona of a stereotyped Gentile white American. Humor he couldn't use as himself. When will we see racist Israelis? They're out there. Recently one magazine ran an article in Los Angeles encouraging gay white males to turn to prostitution and included a photo of a wealthy Asian business man waving dollars for a trick. Whites have come a long way down since Bruce used them as fodder.

  • there would be no George Carlin, no Richard Pryor, etc etc without Lenny

  • hes making fun of "typical Xtian whites" in the USA.

  • @bkltd And your comment makes you look just them...lol Ironic huh?

  • Knew he was ahead of his time but never knew he was this good--- sort of a combo of Don Rickels and George Carlin, and every bit as funny as them, as well as Pryor and Chris Rock. Outrageous. material with What a tragedy for him to have died so young.

  • I can't believe I have never heard of this guy, funny stuff!

  • @gradeahaze same here .... i have heard him in the past but never paid any attenion until now

  • Thanks!

  • this is fucking gold

  • hes stoned and jewish, give him a break man

  • satire this heavy wouldn't go down well today... lol

  • that is cause people are morons!

  • I'm dying of laughter here!

  • Lenny fucking Bruce

  • I miss him

  • Bob Dylan wrote and recorded a song, Lenny Bruce is Dead, and it's a good song. It's all evolution because without Lenny Bruce, there would be be no space for Richard Pryor. Richard Pryor just breaks me up and breaks my heart at the same time. I think to be a great anything or anybody, you've got to be really smart and Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryor were really really smart.

  • @ grainofsandfan well said! I love Lenny and Richard--perhaps Lenny a bit more because of the way he was destroyed by Hogan but Richard's illness was terrible. Have you seen Morgan Freenman doing Mudbone in his honor? It is great! I don't think we will have any two as brilliant as Lenny and Richard! Sign of the times!

  • It's pretty obvious where Archie Bunker got a lot of his lines. Sounds just like him talking to Lionel.

  • we're all the same schmuck

  • exactly

  • the zig zag conspiracy skit is ebay far the best

  • Hahahahaha! You don't want no Heeb plowing your sister, and I don't want no coon doing it to mine.

  • Here's to all the colored people! lmfao

  • watch bill hicks please

  • Good advice for ALL humans

  • So on the mark with what stupid things white people say.

  • yes cos us whiteys say such stupid things..

  • why the thumbs down? Are you all in denial that we say these things? Maybe you think you are all evolved and never make these comments?

  • so true

  • A True Intellect and very funny

  • genius

  • This is fricking brilliant!!!!!!

  • pshh what is he bumbling about

  • I wonder if he ended up plowing his sister (in reference to the joke).....

  • He paved the way for Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Andrew Dice Clay, Sam Kineson,

  • No matter how brilliant he was, he was a stand-up comedian. Hence he is comparable to other stand up comedians

Not all comedians are equal, but saying that you cant compare him to any other comedian is ignorant at best. He was only special because of the time he lived in.

Humour is subjective. The sooner everyone realises this the better

  • yes! its all relative and differs at almost every vantage point of every source.

  • If Carlin and Pryor were alive today, 1) they would tell YOU to shut up, and 2) they would tell you hands down that Bruce was their influence! Do some research before you attempt to shut someone down.

  • Lenny Pryor Sam Carlin!

  • OTOH he did spend half his life coked out of his gourd and set his balls on fire at one point.

  • who hasn't set their balls on fire at least once?

  • Dane Cook is unbelievably awful.

  • im not the biggest lenny bruce fan but as a stand up i love that he stared to talk about things that werent considered "appropriate"

  • I heard the truth from Lenny Bruce!

  • Me too.

  • Lenny was the evolved social satirist........relevent commentary with great humor. Probably the best ever; tragic how the establishment helped kill him. Funny, his material today would be considered mild and just plain brilliant. Chris Rock?, Please!!!! No comparison...they owe it all to Bruce.

  • Like the bit or not, Lenny is the father of modern day stand up!

  • I'm confused... so is the black sounding guy actually the white guy? Which one is the black guy? :P Love, Titsie

  • Not funny. Brilliant but to say he's the greatest COMEDIAN of all time is utter pish!
