first off i have no clue of what fight these judges saw but Rua had full control not once did i see machida try to counter the legs kicks, Rua controlled his movement, he was the agressor the entire fight and had machida changing stances because he didn't want to get kicked anymore.
I think the scary part about Shogun is that he seems to be just getting warmed up. His fight with Coleman wasn't particularly impressive . . . his fight with Liddell was a little better, but then he brought it TOUGH in his fight with Machida.

I wouldn't say he clearly won rounds 1-3. I'm in no way biased towards Shogun because I honestly thought that Machida was going to destroy Shogun. Shogun hit Machida almost twice as much as Machida hit him, and I know leg kicks don't finish fights, but you could tell as the rounds wore on that Machida was feeling every one of them. It's not just the Youtube viewers, every website relating to MMA has Shogun winning the fight, so if you got an educated opinion against that I want to see it.
well i believe Machida should have won but i was suprised when it said unanimous decision, you have to think about the take down attemps by Shogun. He had at least 5 failed take down attempts that is how i think Machida won.
Sure Machida stopped every takedown attempt, but every time that he did Shogun gave him knees on the tender legs. Shogun went for four takedowns, none successful, but like I said Shogun used the opportunity to clinch and give a bunch of unanswered knees. I just think the margin of strikes landed were too big to have Machida winning the fight.

When the fight was over, I was like "Damnit, Lyoto lost." I thought after the last two rounds, it was certain that Shogun had won. However, guys, rewatch the whole match without sound and Rogan's commentary. Round 3 was Machida's and Rounds 4 and 5 were definitely Shogun's. However, it's about who won 3 rounds. The first two were almost even. I actually thought that Machida won the first round without sound and Shogun with sound. It's not completely unreasonable to say that Machida won fairly.

As far as I know of MMA, and any fightsport for that matter, a headshot has heavier impact on judges scoring. Shogun sure did more damage on Machida's body and legs but Machida landed clean headshots as well despite those having less effects. A Raging Shogun isn't a joke and Lidell can attest to that.Judges may have been more impressed by how Machida controlled the pace.Shogun doesn't fight like that, Machida does.He made Shogun fight that way, a counterstriking contest. see, that is true 84 hits to 42, but most of shoguns hits were leg kicks my friend, a punch to the face(which machida landed plentifully) is worth 3 times as many points as a leg kick, 9 stuffed takedowns really cost shogun and the only thing that surprised me and it was probably because of rogans really gay and biased commentary, is that machida was the agressor for alot of the fight. shogun fought a great fight, but he did NOT beat the champ, hence the unanimous decision toward machida.

I think Ruas speed and power scared Machida a little bit. I think Machida is faster and more accurate but that didn't come into play because Shogun made Machida fight his fight. Overall I think Shogun should have won. I didn't think it was a blowout but the decision should have been reveresed in favor of shogun. The commentators were way too overdramatic with every strike Rua thrown. That made the audience at home believe that Machida was devastatingly hurt. He may not even be hurt, a low cut on the lip and red marks does not necessarily mean a fighter is badly hurt. Machida did have some strong knees and counter punches in there too so i believe it was closer than most think.

Machida is a counter. He tried lot of counter-attack called "sen no sen" in karate. Rua seems more agressive but it was not more efficient than Machida's strategy.

I read reviews saying how this was a bad fight. It honestly was one of my favorite fights of all time. I haven't seen a fight that looked so much like two tactical professionals going at it in a refined and perfected manner.

he tried but didnt work. but to be honest machida not a great aggressor. He then tried couple take downs which worked but he isnt a good wrestler either. Its funny people hatin on machida, ya he should have loss 1st fight but he is still a great fighter, he has beaten, rich franklin, sephan bonnar, bj penn, kazuhiro nakamura, tito ortiz, thiago sivla, rashad evans, and a contreversal win over rua.

Both fighters share a same weakness while I watched neither of them have great ground defence, I mean their good but the champ will have his hands full next fight. Rampage and Rashad are both good wrestlers, and rampage is one of most powerful strikers capable knocking out anyone, ya he lost to rua but he has never trained this hard before. While rashad in my opinion is the most round fighter in lightheavyweight and after his loss he went back to wrestling.

I wouldn't say he clearly won rounds 1-3. I'm in no way biased towards Shogun because I honestly thought that Machida was going to destroy Shogun. Shogun hit Machida almost twice as much as Machida hit him, and I know leg kicks don't finish fights, but you could tell as the rounds wore on that Machida was feeling every one of them. It's not just the Youtube viewers, every website relating to MMA has Shogun winning the fight, so if you got an educated opinion against that I want to see it.

well i believe Machida should have won but i was suprised when it said unanimous decision, you have to think about the take down attemps by Shogun. He had at least 5 failed take down attempts that is how i think Machida won.

Sure Machida stopped every takedown attempt, but every time that he did Shogun gave him knees on the tender legs. Shogun went for four takedowns, none successful, but like I said Shogun used the opportunity to clinch and give a bunch of unanswered knees. I just think the margin of strikes landed were too big to have Machida winning the fight.

When the fight was over, I was like "Damnit, Lyoto lost." I thought after the last two rounds, it was certain that Shogun had won. However, guys, rewatch the whole match without sound and Rogan's commentary. Round 3 was Machida's and Rounds 4 and 5 were definitely Shogun's. However, it's about who won 3 rounds. The first two were almost even. I actually thought that Machida won the first round without sound and Shogun with sound. It's not completely unreasonable to say that Machida won fairly.

because the csac and nsac has been under investigation for the last 7 months for corruption and the old head of the ac stepped down stating it as the reason and that is when the investigation began, completely obvious the fight scores where fixed, it wasn't even a split decision and shogun landed much more then machida did, you can make the sound argument but the crowd didnt have sound and they boo'd after the decision, it is my opinion anyone that is saying machida won is just nutthugging

also keep in mind what is a takedown attempt? u see matches where a guy got someone down for a few seconds but he slipped out and got back on his feet. shogun coudnnt even get him close to the ground. machida never left his feet. thats not a takedown attempt

Lyoto won because he landed the most significant moments of Rounds 1-4. The cumulative damage done to Machida was obviously greater, but when Shogun landed kicks he didn't follow them up. When you factor in Machida's excellent takedown defense, it becomes easier to see how the judge's scored this one in Lyoto's favor. Machida was never in any danger of being taken down as he shrugged off every one of Shogun's takedown attempts.

As far as I know of MMA, and any fightsport for that matter, a headshot has heavier impact on judges scoring. Shogun sure did more damage on Machida's body and legs but Machida landed clean headshots as well despite those having less effects. A Raging Shogun isn't a joke and Lidell can attest to that.Judges may have been more impressed by how Machida controlled the pace.Shogun doesn't fight like that, Machida does.He made Shogun fight that way, a counterstriking contest. That's ring generalship.

see, that is true 84 hits to 42, but most of shoguns hits were leg kicks my friend, a punch to the face(which machida landed plentifully) is worth 3 times as many points as a leg kick, 9 stuffed takedowns really cost shogun and the only thing that surprised me and it was probably because of rogans really gay and biased commentary, is that machida was the agressor for alot of the fight. shogun fought a great fight, but he did NOT beat the champ, hence the unanimous decision toward machida.

I think Ruas speed and power scared Machida a little bit. I think Machida is faster and more accurate but that didn't come into play because Shogun made Machida fight his fight. Overall I think Shogun should have won. I didn't think it was a blowout but the decision should have been reveresed in favor of shogun. For a 4 to 1 underdog though he did as good as anyone could have hoped for. His standup is no joke.

The commentators were way too overdramatic with every strike Rua thrown. That made the audience at home believe that Machida was devastatingly hurt. He may not even be hurt, a low cut on the lip and red marks does not necessarily mean a fighter is badly hurt. Machida did have some strong knees and counter punches in there too so i believe it was closer than most think.

i wouldnt say shogun won. it was back and forth. shogun landed more leg kicks and machida seemed to land more punches. the only evening factor was machida blocked better and was more evasive which he does best. i guess judges also score for defensive skills but he definitely did not win this fight. it should have been called a draw.

your right but machida landed more punches to the head and face. while shogun barely punched machida but a few times. there was many counter attacks by machida where he was hammering shogun all the way to the cage and he was opening his hands like ok no problem. but he was bruised and red all over his face. additionally shogun failed to take machida to the ground. you also score points with the judges for defensive abilities.

i completely don't agree with you or the judges it was obviously fixed, if you could call that fight a unanimous decision for shogun then you didn't watch the fight it is that simple, decisions are based on points the scoring system is as follows, strikes landed (if they are blocked but touch they count as landed), takedowns attempts, ground control, octagon control, and agression, in this fight there was no ground game, and strikes landed where 84-42 for shogun, you really think machida won?

and also i wanted to say that scoring points under the ufc's rules for defense goes under octagon control and aggression is worth more points then defensiveness especially when your defense isn't granting you control of the octagon, just go watch the fight 2 times in a row 1st count out on paper the number of strikes landed by machida then count out the number of strikes landed by shogun, and keep in mind a takedown attempt is worth more points then a takedown defense

ahh, but this isnt true. the judges are not employed by the ufc they are hired by the athletic commission. so only according to the ufc if aggression is a deciding factor you can give the nod to shoegun
takedown attempt is not worth more than takedown defense. shoeguns attempt to take machida down was terrible. he wasnt even close. every time he attemped machida was on his back kneeing him to get off and almost countered. the ref kept on breaking it up becuase it was going nowhere.

that ''hugging'' is called a clinch and if you have both arms under his arms (underhooks) you have the upperhand, also if you have both hands behind the head and manage to gain control of his head that is called a thai clinch and is a great position to throw knees from (both clinches) or if you are a judoka a great place to throw or if you a greco wrestler a great place for a takedown, shogun is mainly thai and bjj so he chose knees to the legs and i guarentee you they were working

all in all i do agree it was a very close fight, but it is my strong opinion by points machida lost badly and the judges were corrupt, if your argueing about damage just watch when they raised hands at the end, shogun had no damage to his face and a red side on his chest/stomach, machida couldn't walk and had a busted lip, all in all i would have been happy with a draw but i am in the strong opinion that shogun won that fight and i bet money on machida so im glad he won in a way but mad also

Machida won the fight. Maybe it was a draw but we can't say that Shogun Rua is the real winner. He fought very well but it was not enough for the belt.
Machida is a counter. He tried lot of counter-attack called "sen no sen" in karate. Rua seems more agressive but it was not more efficient than Machida's strategy.
In my opinion, Machida won the first three rounds and gave the last two to Rua. So, I understand the referees.

shogun landed harder strikes. he threw more and landed more and was the agressor throughout the entire fight. the only rd i would give to machida is maybe the 3rd but that is it. shogun is the champion.

dude people in japan say machida won. rogan was sucking shoguns dick the entire time and never mentioned anything that lyoto did. he countered many of the blows shogun threw, when shogun landed the big kick to the midsection he hit hit straight in the face, he defended the takedowns, you all arent seeing it the way a judge sees it. Machida did win. the fight was not fixed. shogun is a great fighter but he didnt do enough.

Here is my 2 cents.
1) The fight was too close to call (48-47.. wow)
2) Shogun gave Machida a LOT of trouble (The most trouble Machida had since the BJ penn fight in K1 heroes, which also ended in a Machida win by unan. decision. BJ penn won 2 rds)
3) Machida's strategy was not very effective
4) Shogun gained more fans and Lyoto lost fans
5) Machida will have to step up his game as his style is pretty close to being cracked.
6) I still think that the only guy to take that belt from him is Rua

After seeing the decision, I just sat there frozen for like 30 seconds. What... the... fuck? Rua worked him over to the point where he had him hobbling around the ring in an obviously vulnerable and beaten state.
I read reviews saying how this was a bad fight. It honestly was one of my favorite fights of all time. I haven't seen a fight that looked so much like two tactical professionals going at it in a refined and perfected manner.
