@1dawnashell Absolutely. The entire shoulder is in it's weakest position here. With the shoulder rotated forward, extreme torque is being driven through the Coracohumeral and Inferior Glenohumeral ligaments, not to mention the brachial plexus and tendon structures. The exercise should be done with the humeral head seated into the back of the socket, if you follow his body positioning, you are likely to end up with bursitis, or tendinopathy, the conditions the exercise is designed to prevent.
good vid - i liked his reminder to breathe & not make fists. I liked the idea of using the uninjured arm for support. One suggestion, slow down while doing exercises, its not about speed but increasing lubrication & strength/range of motion. Moving too fast can causes jerking or not allow the muscles to warm up appropriately. i "liked" this.
i did something like this the other day. it wasn't the exact same thing, but it felt amazing. i worked my rotator cuff and i could feel it, but it felt really good. it was sore the next day because i had never done it b4, but i highly recommend this if it's anything like what i did
Well let's see... how often do we use our wrist to move a weight around? Using the hand creates tension? These are exercises, the whole idea is to create tension. Sorry, but using the hand and engaging the wrist is the most natural way to keep the movement familiar to the muscles and connective structure of your shoulder and arm. The movements are correct, but the wrist thing is unnecessary and awkward and doesn't provide benefit over using your hand. Use your hand. it's the way the body works.
@realeyz you make a good point, however, i had been using my hand for about a month. the first time i put it around my wrist it was way tougher with the same amount of tension
I have watched and studied many different rotator cuff exercises here on youtube. I perform many daily, so as to never again have a shoulder injury. This coach's instruction here is the best video yet on the subject, IMO. I recommend it to all non-athletes.
This guy's form is correct and his description right on. NO, he shouldn't pinch his shoulder blades together...don't listen to the commenters here, listen to the instructor.
@pupman2 while throwing however you can pinch your shoulders together, i was stuck with shoulder impengiment as a kid because my coach made me change my mechanics, you have to stay loose and while doing the excersises it is not necessary, while throwing it is good for some pitchers to do some depends on your body type
well first of all you have to pinch yourshoulder blade muscles together and stand up straight with your shoulders even not lowered and all lazy like this guy

Good Lord, his mechanics suck. He's impinging his supraspinatus and biceps tendon by not having his scapulae set properly!!! Do not do these!!!

This video was awesome. I had never seen the elevated internal and external rotations before but they make a lot of sense.
