  • Don't remember Night Court being taped in Chicago hence the background.

  • @TomTornados I never noticed the Chicago background I always took it for New York, but you're right it is Chicago.

  • *clap* GOOOOOOOMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wat?

  • The laugh freaked me out as a tot, but I loved seeing the flashing star over the city.

  • What is it with vanity plates and freaky stuff happening in them? Is the psychotic laughing REALLY nessesary?!

  • I would have been scare if I was kid but now I'm laughing at it :D

  • One of the many logos that scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. And what the hell's so funny?????

  • I always loved this.....

  • @thebigrene1972 Reinhold's dad did not work at Night Court.

  • Some people may hate this, but I like it. Ever since I saw and heard this after Night Court went off, I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

  • I don't know why some people think this is creepy...I used to find it quite funny.

  • @JeterSwisherFan88 That was what I was thinking.

  • i used to think i was the only person who thought this was creepy. i always imagined the guy laughing was a psycho, deformed, 80's killer from a horror movie. i love this logo it brings back good memories just like sit ubu sit.

  • What is this...I don't even...

  • Unfortunately, the 1972-84 (season 1) or 1984-90 (seasons 2-7) WBTV logo is replaced by the 2003 WBTV logo.

That strange eerie music you hear before the "laughing boy" is an elongated electric piano note, probably either a Wurlitzer EP200 or Fender-Rhodes.

  • I'm glad I did not see this logo as a kid!

  • Was at the ending of every Night Court show. N C = very funny classic.

  • I thought i was the only one to get creeped out by this...lol

  • good! i aint the only one this scared the crap out of as a little kid about to go to bed...

  • That laugh used to scare the hell out of me when I was a kid! O_O

  • Why is this logo scary? I just like it because it reminds me of how great Night Court is. The effect is awesome if you have the lights out.

  • This is a logo that would scare me.

  • Some of the new ads I see on TV these days (especially for movie/video game trailers) can be quite creepy with the way certain graphics move combined with the BAD music!

  • I'll rape yore mom and your sister!

  • I'll rape your mother and you too! >=[]

  • IT'S CHUCK WEEGEE MOTHER FUCKERS!!!!

  • Ok, dickhead!

  • I love it.

  • night court used to have me pissing myself laughing.

  • I pressed play on this after watching it once, and was enjoying the creepiness of it all, when it REPLAYED BY ITSELF. There's creepy, then there's wtf.

  • @LoffleMe Yeah, I jumped a little when it replayed again out of nowhere...

  • Apparenty, somebody actually thinks Night Court was funny.

  • @c3section It was funny.

  • I always saw the Viacom "Wigga-Wigga" Logo in the end When I was younger. But most Likely because I was Viewing the syndicated episodes of Night Court.

  • You are correct on the Chicago skyline and building identification...But us true Chicago natives will ALWAYS refer to the Willis Tower as the SEARS TOWER! I still call the Aon Center the Standard Oil Building! But I'm sentimental!

  • Is that Chicago's skyline? it sure looks like the Willis Tower, Aon Center, & John Hancock Center in there.

  • Yep.

  • That chord is an F minor 9 played on a Fender Rhodes electric piano. During the 1980s, it was the universal signal for "time for the kids to go to bed".

  • Interesting note @funkmike.

  • It sounds like somebody shot somebody else and laughed in vengeance/sadism

  • This did frighten me somewhat as a kid, but now I hear the first sound as someone getting slapped in the face (maybe that star), and it makes me chuckle.

  • @whitegryphon I NEVER found this scary. When I was younger, I'd ask my parents "Why is that guy laughing?"

In more recent years I've laughed along with the guy laughing.

  • This terrified me as a child!

  • I would love the hear this with the 1972-84 WBTV theme

  • ha ha ha

  • who is that laughing?

  • I actually saw a little behind the scenes story back in the day about the laugh. This was either the father or the grandfather of the person who headed up Starry Night Productions, who I believe was also from Chicago...I know the organ has some significance, too...But I can't quite recall that detail.

  • Haha! Thnak You! I knew it was not even Mel Blanc anyways!

  • Your sister.

  • I was 3 when I first saw this, and back then I thought the WB shield was gonna eat me right then and there!!!

  • This Is Not Scary!

  • Um, yes it is, dumbass.

  • I was about to say that the laughter used to frighten me as a child, but now I don't know whether to shut up or to say it XD

  • Sounds like Larry Sweeney.

  • Shut up, dickweed.

  • that's what I always say

  • You dick! -Nikki-couch

  • I have 3 reasons why this logo is scary:

    1. The very dark colors.

    2. The strange music.

    3. That freakin' laugh!

  • I agree with the second reason you gave.

  • I've got a 4th reason: That spark and boom.

  • Comment removed

  • Yup, that too.

  • Why does everyone keeps on saying the evil-sounding maniacal laugh is from Mel Blanc???? It's not even Mel Blanc's laugh, you moron!

  • HUH HUH HA HAHAHAHAHA!

  • Mel Blanc

  • LOL

  • Terrible thing to do to a kid... place something so creepy at the end of a tv show you watch right before you go to bed. :(

With that said, I love this freaking logo!

  • @Braenchild82 Why the hell is this considered creepy?!

  • @Braenchild82 Yea I know I remember watching this after Night Court when I was a kid. After I saw this I was so scared to death I didn"t want to sleep in my room alone. LOL.

  • @Braenchild82 couldn't have said it better. This gave me the creeps, but I spent the past hour trying to find it.

  • Does TV Land plaster over the Starry Night logo now?

Or, did it even appear o nthe last season?

  • they only used it in the earlier seasons, i still see it time to time in the mornings

  • This logo always meant "Time for bed" to me.

If I was really lucky, the folks would let me stay up an extra 5-10 minutes to watch the "Hill Street Blues" intro afterwards.

  • The laughter is by John Astin. He played Buddy,Harry Stone's father. I remember hearing him with that same laughter. I was glad they played it during that segment.

  • This is an area of discussion. I don't appreciate your remark at the end of your answer. I would never say something like that to you. Now for your answer to be Harry Anderson, I respect that and here I also can voice my answer who I think he is and I respect you as a person. Whatever you decide to reply back to me, that is your choice. Remember I have nothing against you and I never will. I hope for you the very best for the new year and always.

  • Ok, sorry. But it sounds like Harry Anderson's laugh.

  • That's incorrect. The laughter you hear at the end (and in many of the episodes from the audience) is my great uncle Chuck Weege. Reinhold's dad.

It's not really a mystery. My cousin Rheiny (as we call him) has stated this in television interviews and if you look hard enough online you'll probably find reference to it.

It's not Harry Anderson, it's not John Astin, it's not Mel Blanc. It's Rheiny's dad.

  • Ok, thanks. Anyways, I always knew it was not Mel Blanc.

  • @NightCourt4Ever No it's not. Reinhold's dad never worked at "Night Court"! It's either Harry Anderson of Mel Blanc.

  • I love this logo. It's what made me a Night Court fan in the first place. I actually started out watching the TV Land marathon to see this logo at the end of every half hour and I ended up falling in love with John Larroquette and his Dan Fielding character.

  • i've heard people say its scary but i always loved it

  • whose the person laughing?

  • It's actually not...

  • Does anyone really know for sure?

  • I remember this logo. Sounds like someone just slapped the *BLEEP* out of someone and the man starts laughing at them.

  • I also remember seeing this at the end of 'Night Court' when I was a kid. It's so simple, but yet so effective. It makes you wanna laugh at whoever they got for this ending.

  • Oh, what you're talking about is Gracie Films, which is still the logo used for "The Simpsons".

  • I remember that at the end of each Night Court episode, sounded kinda funny and weird at the same time. That starry night productions is similar to after The Simpsons go off, you see people in the movie theatre and a woman goes shhh!, then it gets dark and the movie projector shines up on " This has been a Foller Production ", then it goes off. Not sure if it's Foller, might be another word.

  • Gracie Films is what you're talking about.

  • *THWAP*

    Haha... ahahahahahahahhaa!

    ---

...And that's all I gotta say about that. *walks away*
