That strange eerie music you hear before the "laughing boy" is an elongated electric piano note, probably either a Wurlitzer EP200 or Fender-Rhodes.

This was either the father or the grandfather of the person who headed up Starry Night Productions, who I believe was also from Chicago...I know the organ has some significance, too...But I can't quite recall that detail.

That's incorrect. The laughter you hear at the end (and in many of the episodes from the audience) is my great uncle Chuck Weege. Reinhold's dad.

It's not really a mystery. My cousin Rheiny (as we call him) has stated this in television interviews and if you look hard enough online you'll probably find reference to it.
