Special place, Gib. With my expat parents we used to call in there on our way to & from Tanganyika/Tanzania on bi-annual leave. They also have an incredible history, not least the WW2 bombing by axis forces, the digging of the tunnels, & the evacuation of the people. We still visit, & love the rock & its people dearly. Plus I love the "apes", which are really Barbary Monkeys :-) My love to Tariq's Rock.

We do respect the rights of present gibraltarians but the right to choose about something which is stolen does not exist by law...we just want britain to respect the international legality, the historical rights of the peoples, the U.N. resolutions,the treaty of Utrech and the agreements about gibraltar between Britain and Spain jus some decades ago.. but britain don´t have word of honour... that´s the problem, not the wishes of the locals, in fact they have no voice about the militar base...

The gibraltarian population have allways lived as colonist, using a piece of land which was stolen...have never been the owner of the rock and, moreover, they have, even in recent times, stolen more land from the province of Cadiz...THIEVES! they use it as a drug-smuggling centre and a fiscal paradise which is a menace for the european economy...Spain just claimsfor justice as any country wuold do...the days of colonism are over and if you had dignity you should accept that.

Countries treat their "overseas parts" differently. France has "Departments" and treats overseas land as part of France (so Algeria actually used to be part of france), America has Alaska and Hawaii which are states like any other. But America also has overseas land that are not states but are like Gibraltar - semi-autonomous regions with special arrangements.

...We have lots of small bits of land around the world, they all have a different relationship with the main UK - some have UK passports, some have their own currency (bermuda has the USA dollar), most control their own taxes, some have almost their own government. They're ALL different, because of events in history. And when they want to be independent we let them. brilliant video!

i went to gibraltar as part of a day excursion from the costa del sol, and it was a great day indeed. i've literally fallen in love with the country! i'm going there with my girlfriend in febraury as it's dirt cheap for 3 day (2 nights) stay, plus there's no need to change money.

can't wait to be back there!
