I am intrigued by the logic, or, rather, logistics of human law,
and am amazed by the detail and subtlety of arguments that lawyers have to use.
However, I could never be a lawyer, because my interest is NOT in upholding current law, but in creating an entirely new set or system of laws. I guess one would call that politics.
Religionists have zero comprehension of the magnitude of influence.
Set, group, collection, organization, political party, government - these names make no difference to me. What matters is the magnitude of their power and whether that power is for net good or net bad. Religionists will call organized groups of people bad or good as it suits their ideological agenda, not based on observed and self-consistent fact.
Hence, to them, the IPCC and environmental groups and the OWS groups
I don't understand the validity of the "state from the church" argument so many christian pastors and my own parents used when I was growing up. Were they implying that the state should have no authority to interfere with religion (and well, it shouldn't), but that if christians feel the need to interfere with government they should be able to whenever they want?
Ayanna, I don't think it's a good idea to start a membership/subscription; once you start doing that, BAA becomes a sect/religion. I will donate money to BAA whenever I can; and I will even attend some of your conferences, if I can. But I will not be a member (part of the "congregation"), 'cause to me, that's so similar to organised religions.
@CompleteRationality Ok. But atheists must have an idea/agenda, or else what would they hold meeting/conferences?See, me, I don't wanna tell religious people that there's no god. When I have kids, yes, I will tell them that. another name for getting together is congregating, which its etymological root means to gather, as in a church.
@disandthat That's not what the organization is. It's only promoting/encouraging skepticism, science, and critical thinking. Its a group, but it falls way short of religion.
I am a member of the NYS Bar Association. It is a requirement for me to practice law in the state of NY. There are biannual dues that we must pay to keep our license current.
I am also a member of several other organization, mostly professional. None come close to resembling a "congregation."
Do not let the religious convince you that they have a monopoly on membership and gatherings.
@BlackAtheistsAmerica This is what I mean: I don't care if other people are religious, and I won't try to prove to them the non-existence of god; there're so many of them in the world; it'd be a losing battle anyway. Most atheists that I've seen/viewed on YOUTUBE are kind of preachy, like, they're trying to convert (proselytize) those who're religious.
@desertasophy I'm an atheist, so I really don't understand most of your responses to me. I was responding to your statement that "Church and state in USA were probably never as seperated as they are today, since christianity is hardly present at all." My point was that the emphasis on Christianity is more present than ever before in the U.S. There are political groups that want to ensure more Christian control of the government.

The tee the woman is wearing is a distraction......who, today; in their right mind, believes that slavery is "okay"? She is doing a poor job trying to make a point by throwing in a lot of un-related issues. This has been a major weakness in these kinds of arguments. They cannot hold much weight on its' own, so they grab and borrow from other legitimate rights and attempt to breath life into theirs.
What issues do you think are unrelated to the religious right that were discussed in this video? And perhaps you should look over your reply because I don't see how her choice of t-shirt is relevant to the script she read.
@brilliancerising that not the point. theist claim in the bible that slavery ,owing someone like an animal is ok , but loving someone that you have attraction to is a sin even if it is consenting adult,so ur full of religion.I can understand Why you wear looking at her shirt .she is a great bill board

@desertasophy I think it was in the 1950s when there was the start on the backlash on separation on church and state.
