Once and for all this video explains why Joaquin quit acting. He was just so generous that all of himself, body and soul would be projected through the character, making any production a harrowing experience and any bad review (not that there were any to recall) a soul destroying experience. This is why I believe it was hard for him to see the film again once it was completed. He couldn't continue to function if he saw how vulnerable each film made him. He didn't walk the line, he rubbed it out!
