uh what happens if u put the yeast in before u put the cold water in? thats what i did. oops. have i ruined it all?!

the yeast will reproduce. wasting a little bit of yeast isn't a problem.

The airlock lets Carbon dioxide escape and no air to enter. Its an Anaerobic respiration with the yeast acting on the sugar to produce ethonol and CO2 (carbon Dioxide) Wiki for more details.
