@AndyWoods16 Bullshit duran bloated up to over 200 lbs before this fight thats why leonard wanted this 2nd fight rematch so quickly because he knew durans habits outside the ring, you know SHIT!
I never watched Leonard fights before. He really needed some originality. It is clear he is trying to be a copycat of Ali's style with really wasteful way.
And Leonard called himself a boxer? Leonard did not want to give Duran a rematch anymore. He knew what was going to happen if a third fight was to be fought right after. Duran begged for an opportunity that only came when he was well past his prime and fighting at super middle weight! Duran best P4P ever. Duran was not even slightly hurt and he was not even in top shape for this fight as he was partying too much and had to lose a lot of weight to make the fight.
@criztianmanzon Your childish racist insults saddens me......Sugar Mocked him and landed punches at will then the coward actually said "No Mas" which means no more.... He did not want to take more of that ass wooping and being embarrassed by sugar's taunts...aahahahaha
@ls26boys He wasnt getting a beating leonard was not showing good sportsmanship taunting like a clown when he should have been fighting its a boxing match not a day out at the circus.
@shotgunshawzy I'm sure people said something like that when they first saw Magic Johnson playing basketball. If you can't keep up with someones speed when they can move away from your punches it means your athletisism has failed you. Who says you have to stand there and get hit when you don't have to, you can just move around and do the hitting.
@shotgunshawzy If he really didn't like the taunting, why not go and whipp Leonard's ass? If he couldn't take the taunting he would have been mad, that only would have been a reason to go on further. The only reason Duran quit is because he got his ass beaten up by Leonard
o plooker FUCKOFF you always get 1 lying boring bullshiter on here, your sat at home in your bedroom 38 stone eating packets of crisp you STINK live with your mum never had a girlfriend,so plooker do 1 wiv your shit,,but truth guys im not lying i was sugar rays sparring partner, they let me go as i was to fast to powerfull.
You can call Duran a bitch but Leonard is the one acting like he got some ATG victory there with that stupid celebration. If it had been Ali he would have been disgusted like against Liston telling him to get up.
duran lost to leonard past his prime and duran beat leonard in his prime and also duran and leonard would kick any lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight, light middleweight ass
I'm not saying it's an easy fight for him with any of them just that he's the best I've ever seen defensively even surpassing Roy Jones Jr. Look I'm retired now but just to show I do know what I'm talking about there is a horse running at Gulfstream Park, Discreet Dancer, he'll pay $8.00 maybe less as I'm going heavy on him if the track is fast, bet him a few bucks. Make $800.00 in less than two minutes. have a nice day.
@Blackjesus3 Winky Wright because of that lack of offense lost a lot of decision's he could have won if he took a few chances. A part of being a fighter is knowing where you stand in a fight. In to many close decisions he just assumed he had it won but you have to take the win from the champion and he just didn't do it so many times. You have to be way ahead to leave a fight in the judges hands. Great defensive fighter but no offense. Had trouble getting fights because he made fighters look bad.
@Blackjesus3 One of the best a world champion at age 17 beating Antonio Cervantes for the title who was a very good fighter. It took all the rabbit had to beat him and hearns had a hard time also but he handled Duran with no problem.
@ccfckenny What was I thinking. These guys would have killed Tyson in his prime. If I want to watch little kids fight I will go to the playground. My 16 year old son is bigger than these guys by 20 lbs.
@GClary1 As would have Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield, Larry Holmes, George Foreman, Tim Witherspoon, Lenox Lewis, Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, Michael Spinks, Bonecrusher Smith, Riddick Bowe, etc,. etc. And do you know why, GClary1?
BEACAUSE THEY WERE ALL HEAVYWEIGHTS!!! Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran fought in a different weight class. Did the doctor drop you on your head accidently shortly after your birth?
Duran is the best lightweight ever. But Sugar Ray Leonard was the best Welter weight of all time, hands down. What made Leonard so great? He could work anyone out, given enough time. He could beat anyone put in front of him, because he knows how to fight in order to win. Duran is my favorite fighter of all time, to come up from Lightweight to Welter and beat Ray Leonard is unheard of, but Leonard showed in the second fight why he is the best Welter weight champion ever! BOTH CHAMPIONS!
@JerryLFC31 Duran got paid BEFORE the fight 8 million dollars which he quickly turned into 16 million. As for best Welterweight/Middleweight Robinson who fought at 152lbs was barred from fighting in the welterweights and was forced to fight at middleweight. He was easily the best of bost divisions
@Icyhotboo I'm not talkin about Middle weight division but if I had too it would be between Marvin Hagler and Ray Robinson. Sugar Ray Leonard is the best Welter weight of all time. Ray Robinson fought as a middleweight I don't care if he got barred in or any of that nonsense. Ray Leonard beat the best, in the greatest era of Boxing the 80's for the Welter / Middle weight divisions. Duran is the best lightweight of all time aswell, he's a class from the rest as a lightweight, that's another fact
@JerryLFC31 Your obviously stating your minority opinion to which your entitled. Sugar Ray Robinson was so good the only fighter that would get in the ring with him as a welterweight was Jake Lamotta who came down from 172lbs and was allowed to fight Robinson At 159lbs to Robinson's 146lbs. Furthermore Oscar Delahoya had a jab as a lightweight that would crushed anyone whe ever fought at that weight. Your guessing, I was there!
@Icyhotboo Firstly, minority opinion? It's a fact that Roberto Duran is the greatest lightweight of all time. Oscar Delahoya is not even in the same class as Duran. Secondly, I know everyone raves about Ray Robinson and yes I agree he was "ahead of his time" as was Muhammad Ali, with there combination punching and footwork but I'm saying as a Welter Weight, Ray Leonard is the best, he fought all of the greats in the greatest era for the Welter division. I am not "guessing" by the way, I know.
@JerryLFC31 Let me restate that. Oscar Delahoya had the fastest, hardest, best jab of any fighter ever!!!!! As a lightweight he was unbeatable. That fvvkin Duran, Leonard's fight was the second fight he threw on me. DeJesus was the first. Hate that @sshole. Yeah he could fight but just did what he was told to do. If Noriega let him loose in the second fight Sugar Ray Rabbit wouldn't have survived. He didn't fight he ran just like against Hagler. Duran was ahead on cards when it ended!!!!????4-3
@Icyhotboo Oscar Delahoya unbeatable as a lightweight? I can't take that statement seriously, Duran would of picked him apart as a lightweight Oscar Delahoya's a better promoter than he is fighter, yes Golden Boy was champion but there's thousands of champions, Duran was the Hands of Stone! The Brawl in Montreal showed that Sugar Ray was tough, to go toe to toe with Duran, flat footed theres no suprise he lost but then he comes back in this fights and humilates him, n goes on to beat the Hitman
@JerryLFC31- Look this guy would knock his opponents out with a jab/that just isn't done outside of heavyweights. You don't belive me but ask George Forman as this is his opinion and he does know something about power. As for heavyweights George made a lot of money for me telling me in 1988 that Lennox Lewis was the best ever and the one guy he didn't want to fight. I am a retired professional gamler for 35 years. Not a bookie, a gambler so I had to know more than the house. Amazing so naive!
@Icyhotboo lol how in the hell is oscar de la hoya even mentioned here with ray leonard and Duran even a prime Julio Cesar Chavez would of killed De la hoya Duran is too much for the Golden girl
@MrEl7decopas oscar de la hoya destroyed Julio Cesar Chavez and Chavez wasn't that far over. Like I said I'm just reiterating George Foreman's opinion so email him. Mayweather is the best defensive fighter ever even surpassing Roy Jones Jr. He'd beat any of your welters except Robinson who had freakish power. No more rookie!!!!!!!
@Icyhotboo a watered down version of Julio my friend a man that had already been beaten by whitiker and Randall and was declining and was still giving him hell...Roberto would have murdered Oscar thats the truth
@JerryLFC31 - Sugar Ray Robinson held the world welterweight title between 1946 and 1951 and was undefeated, fighting at that weight. His only defeat, in more than 100 fights, was at middleweight, against Jake LaMotta. Robinson lost more fights, later in his career, having moved up to middleweight plus one shot at Joey Maxim's light-heavyweight title.
I won't go into details because many of you wouldn't believe it anyway, but Duran was told to go down in this fight. His machismo wouldn't let him "dive" like he was supposed to. My creds? I was a sparring partner of Duran's.
@plooker39 lmao typical always full of excuses leonard was the best get used to it...What kind of man quits? if duran fought on and got ko'd i would have had more respect for him. That was a very womanly thing to do.
@bertelliish u say that cus u have never been in the ring.. Duran done the smart thing buy not acting as someones punch bag cus he was out of shape at the time due to the tactics of Leonard pushing for a fast rematch. it was Roberto,s fault for taking it up but that,s the sort of warrior he is.he wasn't so much a fool to carry on a full fight that he could not win thinking Leonard would give him a next quick rematch just like Duran gave him. but he didn't know how much of a snake Leonard was.
@wachm3 Listen here mr can't accept your idol got a whuppin lol.......Listen CAREFULLY because i'm going to say it once...........A REAL MAN does not QUIT under no circumstances!!! Is that clear enough for you? Leonard fought him toe to toe in the first fight and duran failed to deck him. Second fight duran KNEW that leonard was going to hurt him period. Hands of stone? fucking hands of a woman lol lol lol
@bertelliish - Indeed. Duran was the one who stopped fighting and yet some bozos still insist on insulting Leonard for not fighting Duran's fight.
Duran isn't even slightly hurt, it's not like George Chuvalo against Joe Frazier or even Vitali Klitschko against Chris Byrd, this is just stupidity from Duran and he has never been man enough to admit his fault.
@bertelliish How many times have you fought? How many times have you been paid 8 million dollars in advance and turned it into a sure 16 million in mere minutes. Of coure he took a dive, Leonards original corner quit after he lost the first in Montreal as they felt Leonard had no chance in a rematch. Noriega set the the whole deal up starting with the first fight which Leonard didn't want but had to take. In the second fight he was told to go down but he had no respect for Leonard so he didn't.
@Icyhotboo "lol" ...You need your head examined old man ..You believe in too much fairy stories ...Please stop..i have been laughing till my sides ache you one funny dude lol lol
@Icyhotboo - this is a complete and utter lie. Leonard had one cornerman leave his corner and Noriega did not pressure Duran to take a dive.
It is documented in Duran's official biography that he quit and then made up some rubbish excuse about stomach cramps. Duran was found partying, by his manager, after the fight - partying as if he had won and his furious manager threw everyone out.
alright enough of you haters this is boxing i dont care if you like his style hear personally here is the bottom line, did he taunt and frustrate duran, yes, is it allowed, yes did he know some of durans weaknesses from his loss in the first fight yep,he outboxed him and for whatever reason duran quit it worked mission accomplished and both continued on there legendary careers, next your gona complain about his stoppage of thomas hearns.duran leonard hagler hearns all some of the best.
@MrEl7decopas I wouldn't say he was running like a lil bitch - I would say he was giving a masterclass. The first fight Duran won cos Leonard fought Roberto's way. The second fight Ray destroyed Duran. The third fight Leonard also destroyed Duran. Conclusion? never take a rematch with the great Ray. The beauty about boxing is the various styles of its participants.
@shiftwork last i heard a rematch is done quick and in the same weight class not years after in different weight classes sounds like what pacquiao does to marquez which is a bitch move to wait for the opponent to go through wear and tear so its easier to beat him..... and he still lost to a lightweight how embarrassing
And I'll tell a couple of other things bogus about Duran in that fight...One, did you notice that after he quit and the fight was over for a couple of seconds he acted like he still wanted to fight? Watch it again..and two, if the quitting was cuz of Leonard's tactics, then why did he say he quit cuz of stomach cramps...STOMACH CRAMPS...Big bad Duran quit cuz of STOMACH CRAMPS? Cmon...If he was so damn macho he would have IMMEDIATELY talked about Leonard's 'running'...
show boating and running away? roberto duran had 2 weeks of practice because his promoter fucked him over. that is why leanard wouldnt accept a 3rd fight.
@willycrespo93 he did accept a third fight and won, so your point? No rematch that I've ever seen in boxing happens immediately after the previous fight.
im pretty sure suga ray would rape floyd mayweather, eat his children and then drop about 40 stacks on him as he laughed all the way to the bank. holy hell leonard is fast!
Today's crowd would boo Sugar Ray Leonard because most of them don't understand the art of boxing and mixing your physical preparation with your boxing talent...Sugar Ray Leonard was a perfect example of how-to-box-and-make-a-spectale, in fact he was so good that one of the greatest boxers ever, Roberto Duran had to quit! I wish he have more "spectacle" boxers today......
@MrVisuljak Duran quit because he felt disrespected. Im not saying that excuses him for quitting, but Duran would beat Ray Leonard if given proper time to prepare. Hands down. Not to mention Ray requested the ring be bigger just so he could do this bullshit.
Bottom line...you guys can spew all the crap you want about how Leonard got the rematch, how Duran bloated up, how Leonard paid off people....DURAN QUIT....And there's NO excuse for that...Duran is supposed to be the big bad bully, but he QUIT??? Did Ali quit when Holmes was kicking the crap out of him?? NO...DUNDEE had to STOP the fight...Don't give a damn what led up to this fight, the no mas ending was horsecrap on Duran's part...PERIOD
@dreman1970 duran got fucked over by his promoter, he had 2 weeks to get ready for this fight. he quit cause it was the smart thing to do. immidiatly he asked for a rematch but leanard wouldnt fight him. why cause he knows it wouldve resulted like the first bout.
@willycrespo93 Duran quit because he knew he got shafted, he was the KING and he was treated like a chump. So, Duran gave them all the middle finger and basically said " If you are going to treat me this way, screw you". Don King screwed Duran (what a surprise). Ray bought his way into facing a Duran that wasn't ready. Ray admitted himself, it was his plan, why would Ray want to face an inferior Duran? Maybe that's why Ray is so screwed up now? His soul knows he didn't really win.
@dreman1970 I don't think Leonard would have the respect he got then from todays fight fans. The crowd wouldn't stand for what essentially is running away. Duran quit cos Leonard wouldn't fight and it was embarrassing but Duran was never hurt and I think Duran said something along the lines of "I can't fight this clown" because Leonard WOULDN"T fight as such. Leonard employed the same tactics against Hagler.
@Easyandy100 Uh there's another fighter who essentially does that and his name is Floyd Mayweather...And to say Duran was never hurt..There werent too many fighters that actually hurt Duran...That's still a bogus reason to quit...Leonard is a BOXER...Not a puncher...Ali was a boxer....Holmes was a boxer...Mayweather is a boxer...Boxing is not just about going in there and going toe to toe...And after the first fight, can so WHY he would engage in another brawl?
@dreman1970 Floyd does stand with opponents as he loves fighting in what he calls 'the pocket' and he is a difficult target even when toe to toe. There's a subtle difference between boxing and running and Leonard crosses that line too often. My main point is that Duran quit not because he was being beaten but because Leonard would't fight and this embarrassed such a macho guy. I remember watching this live and being annoyed at Leonard for not fighting.
@Easyandy100 That may be true about Floyd but....fans today have repeatedly said the same thing...And I personally was laughing my ass off that he embarrassed Duran..remember, Duran crossed the line BIG TIME b4 the first fight by insulting his family (most notably Leonard's wife)...It's not real macho to attack someone wife like that..and it's not like he didn't land any punches...vs Hagler in the 2nd half of the fight he HAD to fight him cuz he tired from dancing for 6 rds..
@dreman1970 You make great points but something about this 'fight' doesn't sit right; Too much tactics over fighting perhaps? Leonards exploitation of Durans habits in the build up? A pro Leonard crowd in the US that coloured the way the fight was portrayed? I think if this had been fought in the South Americas Leonard would have been booed out of the place and maybe even in Europe. There is a fine line between boxing and running.
@Easyandy100 Oh he exploited Duran...he said that...but hey as I said to someone on here...Is it Leonard's fault that Duran ballooned to 230 pounds? Duran said he didn't like to train anymore at that point. So why balloon to 230 right after you win the title? If he said he didn't like to train and Leonard 'waited'...he would have waited probably at least a year...and that's insane...He HAD to know there would be a rematch at some point, so I put that on Duran
@dreman1970 LOL. Thanks! The reason I was commenting is because I was chatting with someone about boxers today and how he thought that in the main they would beat the boxers of the past and he brought up Leonard and his style. On retrospect, I found myself agreeing with a lot of points as todays fighters have better conditioning, diet, training etc. And I also think Leonards' style wouldn't be so appreciated now with fight fans demanding more. Just a thought.
@Easyandy100 are you guys kidding leonars is one of the most flashy exciting fighters of all time and one of the best finishers once he hurt you it was over. hed mop the floor with many bums of today,i see only mayweather jr being competitive against him if he were around today
@dannymadness1 I don't see him as that exciting; certainly against Hagler he ran rather than fought. He was cleverly brought up and marketed. He lost against Duran and ran in the return, he was lucky against Hagler and could only manage a draw on rematch with Hearns and lost against Norris. I don't think he would be considered as great amongst today's fighters although I certainly have respect for him.
@Easyandy100 Sugar Ray Leonard would dominate against todays fighters. My most favorite aspect of Sugar Ray Leonard is that he wasn't one dimensional like most fighters. Leonard had multiple styles and he would use which ever one would best allow him to win against a certain opponent. He could dance and box, he could fight on the inside, he could brawl very well, and he was a great finisher when he needed to be. Very few fighters can do what Leonard did.
@Easyandy100 And any other fight where he 'ran' I didn't see the other guy QUIT...Hagler didn't quit..And in reality other than those two fights, who did he run against? Hearns (no), Benitez (no) Kalule (no), Lalonde (no). Personally, I think his fight strategy was perfect...Stick, move, frustrate the slugger..That's what Ali did to Liston..Ray was never a hard puncher, and Duran had a granite chin..why should Ray stand there and go toe to toe when he didn't have to? Just sayin
@dreman1970 If you look at Duran's fights at welter, he was not impressive other than the ones he prepared for. Leonard wanted THAT Duran, Leonard did not expect to get the version of Duran that showed up in Montreal. A Duran that could match his speed and power, a Duran with incredible timing and desire.Leonard wanted the semi into it Duran, which is what he got in New Orleans.Ray helped get that Duran by making him fight 5 months after Montreal, by paying off Don King R.D said F it
Ray then tried to cherry pick a washed up Hearns in their rematch, thinking that Tommy was completely shot and somehow, the fight was called a draw. Imagine if Ray had almost 80 fights and moved up 2 divisions to fight a prime Duran in his mid 20's...Ray would be dead right now...Many believe that Ray didn't do enough to take the title from Hagler, but he got it anyways..Duran redeemed himself winning 2 more titles...Ray went on to get his ass handed to him by Norris and Camacho.. 40 fights?
@blite13 Maybe true, but u fail to mention that he DID fight Hearns when Hearns was prime and came from behind and beat him....AND unified the welterweight titles...And don't even say he avoided a rematch then cuz Hearns IMMEDIATELY moved up in weight class after that fight...
Ray was king of the cherry pickers. He thought Duran was washed up when he signed to fight him the first time. He then paid Don King to get him in the ring 5 months after Montreal. Ray said himself, that he knew Duran would have to lose a lot of weight quickly between the time of the signing, to the time of the rematch. Leonard knew Duran wouldn't be the same fighter in New Orleans, he wanted to face a 'cheaper' version of Duran = no class. Then he cherry picked Hagler when Hagler was washed up.
@blite13 what you're saying is true to a degree with leonard, the main reason was he was the big draw and money was never a problem for him bcos he could fight a guy off the street and make 2mill so he felt he had the right to all his diva demands and who knows maybe if any of the other guys around in the 80s had the money of ray then they might be in a similar position to get their own way? cherry picker at times yeah but he was still a great champ and beat some great guys
Leonard was afraid of Duran after the first fight so he decided to come up with this ploy. It was smart but made him look like a clown and his performance alienated true fans of the sport. Karma is a bitch though. That fool Macho Camacho humiliated and knocked out Leonard. History olds Duran in much higher esteem than Leonard. At the same stage in their careers Duran beat Barkley while Leonard got punked by Camacho.
@UberGator well first off Duran came up in weight to fight leonard and was always much smaller then him. Leonard is overrated and duran beating him means much more then it does vic versa. Not to mention Leonard ducking hagler and waiting for him to get old then calling him out
Big deal, avoiding the fight. Anybody can do that. In the first fight he took an ass kicking. he didn´t want another one. Durán had better things to do that night
I do dislike youtube captions that force the viewer to c things the uploader's way ("X OWNS Y" when all X did was ask Y a question, etc.). Many of these caps are jokes. But in this case it's accurate: R surely humiliated D and the proof is D got frustrated & quit. He used all of Ali's style, inc. the "come hither" gesture with the glove, the shuffle, the eye stare instead of punching, the bolo windup punch, the body movements, etc. Somehow the shuffle doesn't look the same on a lighter person!
SRL is a wussy always has been. Nothing but an icon. And to prove hes a wussy he even had to have his trainer yell out 30 when the 30 second mark came by when facing Hagler.
All the moves here Leonard took from Ali, including the shuffle, the bolo punch (which Ali in turn took from Foreman in that multiple ring event after Foreman lost to Ali and fought, I think, 4 fighters in one event: he used that bolo punch; Ali then used it in a subsequent fight). Same with the "come hither" gesture wit the glove, which Leonard took from Ali. Maybe that's why Ali seemed to diss Leonard when they were on together with Tyson, to whom he showed great deference and respect.
@Richard40171 Ali modeled his entire fighting style from Robinson. He even wore white trunks with a black stripe in his honor. All fighters learn/inspire from someone else, that's how the sport evolves.
regardless the first fight is best duran at his peak mashed this clown

@Blackjesus3 One of the best a world champion at age 17 beating Antonio Cervantes for the title who was a very good fighter. It took all the rabbit had to beat him and hearns had a hard time also but he handled Duran with no problem.

BEACAUSE THEY WERE ALL HEAVYWEIGHTS!!! Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran fought in a different weight class. Did the doctor drop you on your head accidently shortly after your birth?
danning1 1 day ago
Duran is the best lightweight ever. But Sugar Ray Leonard was the best Welter weight of all time, hands down. What made Leonard so great? He could work anyone out, given enough time. He could beat anyone put in front of him, because he knows how to fight in order to win. Duran is my favorite fighter of all time, to come up from Lightweight to Welter and beat Ray Leonard is unheard of, but Leonard showed in the second fight why he is the best Welter weight champion ever! BOTH CHAMPIONS!
JerryLFC31 2 weeks ago
@JerryLFC31 Duran got paid BEFORE the fight 8 million dollars which he quickly turned into 16 million. As for best Welterweight/Middleweight Robinson who fought at 152lbs was barred from fighting in the welterweights and was forced to fight at middleweight. He was easily the best of bost divisions
Icyhotboo 2 weeks ago
@Icyhotboo I'm not talkin about Middle weight division but if I had too it would be between Marvin Hagler and Ray Robinson. Sugar Ray Leonard is the best Welter weight of all time. Ray Robinson fought as a middleweight I don't care if he got barred in or any of that nonsense. Ray Leonard beat the best, in the greatest era of Boxing the 80's for the Welter / Middle weight divisions. Duran is the best lightweight of all time aswell, he's a class from the rest as a lightweight, that's another fact
JerryLFC31 1 week ago
@JerryLFC31 Your obviously stating your minority opinion to which your entitled. Sugar Ray Robinson was so good the only fighter that would get in the ring with him as a welterweight was Jake Lamotta who came down from 172lbs and was allowed to fight Robinson At 159lbs to Robinson's 146lbs. Furthermore Oscar Delahoya had a jab as a lightweight that would crushed anyone whe ever fought at that weight. Your guessing, I was there!
Icyhotboo 1 week ago
@Icyhotboo Firstly, minority opinion? It's a fact that Roberto Duran is the greatest lightweight of all time. Oscar Delahoya is not even in the same class as Duran. Secondly, I know everyone raves about Ray Robinson and yes I agree he was "ahead of his time" as was Muhammad Ali, with there combination punching and footwork but I'm saying as a Welter Weight, Ray Leonard is the best, he fought all of the greats in the greatest era for the Welter division. I am not "guessing" by the way, I know.
JerryLFC31 1 week ago
Icyhotboo 1 week ago
@Icyhotboo Oscar Delahoya unbeatable as a lightweight? I can't take that statement seriously, Duran would of picked him apart as a lightweight Oscar Delahoya's a better promoter than he is fighter, yes Golden Boy was champion but there's thousands of champions, Duran was the Hands of Stone! The Brawl in Montreal showed that Sugar Ray was tough, to go toe to toe with Duran, flat footed theres no suprise he lost but then he comes back in this fights and humilates him, n goes on to beat the Hitman
JerryLFC31 1 week ago
@JerryLFC31- Look this guy would knock his opponents out with a jab/that just isn't done outside of heavyweights. You don't belive me but ask George Forman as this is his opinion and he does know something about power. As for heavyweights George made a lot of money for me telling me in 1988 that Lennox Lewis was the best ever and the one guy he didn't want to fight. I am a retired professional gamler for 35 years. Not a bookie, a gambler so I had to know more than the house. Amazing so naive!

@MrEl7decopas oscar de la hoya destroyed Julio Cesar Chavez and Chavez wasn't that far over. Like I said I'm just reiterating George Foreman's opinion so email him.
BruceinFalkirk 3 days ago
@Icyhotboo - Robinson was world welterweight champ between 1946 and 1951. He moved up to middleweight because he couldn't make welterweight any more.
BruceinFalkirk 3 days ago
I won't go into details because many of you wouldn't believe it anyway, but Duran was told to go down in this fight. His machismo wouldn't let him "dive" like he was supposed to. My creds? I was a sparring partner of Duran's.

@bertelliish u say that cus u have never been in the ring..
BruceinFalkirk 3 days ago
@bertelliish How many times have you fought? How many times have you been paid 8 million dollars in advance and turned it into a sure 16 million in mere minutes. Of coure he took a dive, Leonards original corner quit after he lost the first in Montreal as they felt Leonard had no chance in a rematch. Noriega set the the whole deal up starting with the first fight which Leonard didn't want but had to take. In the second fight he was told to go down but he had no respect for Leonard so he didn't.

@MrEl7decopas I wouldn't say he was running like a lil bitch - I would say he was giving a masterclass. The first fight Duran won cos Leonard fought Roberto's way. The beauty about boxing is the various styles of its participants.

@dreman1970 duran got fucked over by his promoter, he had 2 weeks to get ready for this fight. he quit cause it was the smart thing to do. immidiatly he asked for a rematch but leanard wouldnt fight him. why cause he knows it wouldve resulted like the first bout.
willycrespo93 3 weeks ago
@willycrespo93 Duran quit because he knew he got shafted, he was the KING and he was treated like a chump. So, Duran gave them all the middle finger and basically said " If you are going to treat me this way, screw you". Don King screwed Duran (what a surprise). Ray bought his way into facing a Duran that wasn't ready. Ray admitted himself, it was his plan, why would Ray want to face an inferior Duran? Maybe that's why Ray is so screwed up now? His soul knows he didn't really win.

bertelliish 3 days ago
@dreman1970 I don't think Leonard would have the respect he got then from todays fight fans. The crowd wouldn't stand for what essentially is running away. Duran quit cos Leonard wouldn't fight and it was embarrassing but Duran was never hurt and I think Duran said something along the lines of "I can't fight this clown" because Leonard WOULDN"T fight as such. Leonard employed the same tactics against Hagler.
Easyandy100 3 weeks ago
@Easyandy100 Uh there's another fighter who essentially does that and his name is Floyd Mayweather...And to say Duran was never hurt..There werent too many fighters that actually hurt Duran...That's still a bogus reason to quit...Leonard is a BOXER...Not a puncher...Ali was a boxer....Holmes was a boxer...Mayweather is a boxer...Boxing is not just about going in there and going toe to toe...And after the first fight, can so WHY he would engage in another brawl?
dreman1970 3 weeks ago
@dreman1970 Floyd does stand with opponents as he loves fighting in what he calls 'the pocket' and he is a difficult target even when toe to toe. There's a subtle difference between boxing and running and Leonard crosses that line too often. My main point is that Duran quit not because he was being beaten but because Leonard would't fight and this embarrassed such a macho guy. I remember watching this live and being annoyed at Leonard for not fighting.
Easyandy100 3 weeks ago
@Easyandy100 That may be true about Floyd but....fans today have repeatedly said the same thing...And I personally was laughing my ass off that he embarrassed Duran..remember, Duran crossed the line BIG TIME b4 the first fight by insulting his family (most notably Leonard's wife)...It's not real macho to attack someone wife like that..and it's not like he didn't land any punches...vs Hagler in the 2nd half of the fight he HAD to fight him cuz he tired from dancing for 6 rds..
dreman1970 3 weeks ago
@dreman1970 You make great points but something about this 'fight' doesn't sit right; Too much tactics over fighting perhaps? Leonards exploitation of Durans habits in the build up? A pro Leonard crowd in the US that coloured the way the fight was portrayed? I think if this had been fought in the South Americas Leonard would have been booed out of the place and maybe even in Europe. There is a fine line between boxing and running.
Easyandy100 3 weeks ago
@Easyandy100 Oh he exploited Duran...he said that...but hey as I said to someone on here...Is it Leonard's fault that Duran ballooned to 230 pounds? Duran said he didn't like to train anymore at that point. So why balloon to 230 right after you win the title? If he said he didn't like to train and Leonard 'waited'...he would have waited probably at least a year...and that's insane...He HAD to know there would be a rematch at some point, so I put that on Duran
dreman1970 3 weeks ago

@Easyandy100 No prob...It's refreshing to have an INTELLIGENT chat with someone on here for a change!!! =)
dreman1970 3 weeks ago
@dreman1970 LOL. Thanks! The reason I was commenting is because I was chatting with someone about boxers today and how he thought that in the main they would beat the boxers of the past and he brought up Leonard and his style. On retrospect, I found myself agreeing with a lot of points as todays fighters have better conditioning, diet, training etc. And I also think Leonards' style wouldn't be so appreciated now with fight fans demanding more. Just a thought.
Easyandy100 3 weeks ago
@Easyandy100 are you guys kidding leonars is one of the most flashy exciting fighters of all time and one of the best finishers once he hurt you it was over. hed mop the floor with many bums of today,i see only mayweather jr being competitive against him if he were around today
dannymadness1 2 weeks ago
@dannymadness1 I don't see him as that exciting; certainly against Hagler he ran rather than fought. He was cleverly brought up and marketed. He lost against Duran and ran in the return, he was lucky against Hagler and could only manage a draw on rematch with Hearns and lost against Norris. I don't think he would be considered as great amongst today's fighters although I certainly have respect for him.
Easyandy100 2 weeks ago
@Easyandy100 Sugar Ray Leonard would dominate against todays fighters. My most favorite aspect of Sugar Ray Leonard is that he wasn't one dimensional like most fighters. Leonard had multiple styles and he would use which ever one would best allow him to win against a certain opponent. He could dance and box, he could fight on the inside, he could brawl very well, and he was a great finisher when he needed to be. Very few fighters can do what Leonard did.
JcLeopard 1 week ago
@JcLeopard He wouldn't fight most of todays fighters. He was good but too much of a cherry picker and too much manipulation rather than fighting.
Easyandy100 1 week ago
@Easyandy100 And any other fight where he 'ran' I didn't see the other guy QUIT...Hagler didn't quit..And in reality other than those two fights, who did he run against? Hearns (no), Benitez (no) Kalule (no), Lalonde (no). Personally, I think his fight strategy was perfect...Stick, move, frustrate the slugger..That's what Ali did to Liston..Ray was never a hard puncher, and Duran had a granite chin..why should Ray stand there and go toe to toe when he didn't have to? Just sayin
dreman1970 3 weeks ago
@dreman1970 If you look at Duran's fights at welter, he was not impressive other than the ones he prepared for. Leonard wanted THAT Duran, Leonard did not expect to get the version of Duran that showed up in Montreal. A Duran that could match his speed and power, a Duran with incredible timing and desire.Leonard wanted the semi into it Duran, which is what he got in New Orleans.Ray helped get that Duran by making him fight 5 months after Montreal, by paying off Don King R.D said F it
blite13 3 weeks ago
Ray then tried to cherry pick a washed up Hearns in their rematch, thinking that Tommy was completely shot and somehow, the fight was called a draw. Imagine if Ray had almost 80 fights and moved up 2 divisions to fight a prime Duran in his mid 20's...Ray would be dead right now...Many believe that Ray didn't do enough to take the title from Hagler, but he got it anyways..Duran redeemed himself winning 2 more titles...Ray went on to get his ass handed to him by Norris and Camacho.. 40 fights?
blite13 3 weeks ago
@blite13 Maybe true, but u fail to mention that he DID fight Hearns when Hearns was prime and came from behind and beat him....AND unified the welterweight titles...And don't even say he avoided a rematch then cuz Hearns IMMEDIATELY moved up in weight class after that fight...
dreman1970 3 weeks ago
Ray was king of the cherry pickers. He thought Duran was washed up when he signed to fight him the first time. He then paid Don King to get him in the ring 5 months after Montreal. Ray said himself, that he knew Duran would have to lose a lot of weight quickly between the time of the signing, to the time of the rematch. Leonard knew Duran wouldn't be the same fighter in New Orleans, he wanted to face a 'cheaper' version of Duran = no class. Then he cherry picked Hagler when Hagler was washed up.
blite13 3 weeks ago 2
