I've only recently really started to get into this series. I'm a huge lore freak for stuff hence why I love series like Elder Scrolls. I looked up all the info I could about the series and characters and honestly couldn't find much. More and more though I'm starting to realize lots of opinions on so many different aspects of the game are different. Touhou is more about interpreting the series on your own from what you're given, huh?

@Qben5 Well, remembering who's who takes a while. I feel the memes and doujin manga help with that more than anything. If you like manga-style illustrations like that, head over to danbooru and check the pools for anything labelled "Touhou - _____". There are tons of different doujin comics archived there. Theres also Gensokyo.org. Also, the game series was created by a memetically drunk person... don't feel bad about the fact that it doesn't make sense. That's just how drunk people are.

The fans love Touhou because of the level of creative freedom ZUN, the creator, gave the fans.

Hell, we named Koakuma. And he accepted it. The fandom has produced a lot of good material, and it shows the love we have for the series. It's much more than a mere game to us.

Gensokyo as an idea is that those of us unaccepted by the Outside world are accepted in Gensokyo.

The best part of this series is our own discovery of it. Our own meaning of it. Go and find your own.

@Dr33J Somebody is a bit quick to forget Rinnosuke, Youki and Unzan (though he hardly counts). Besides that, if going based on fandom, crossovers are pretty common for Touhou, so it really could be anything. I've seen Cirno shipped with Ice man, for example.

Or, it could refer to a type of love not in a romantic sense. Or for herself.

I'm probably thinking to far into this, and it might just be the very obvious answer.
