  • wait a minute . the bat was made in 1926 and the first batman comic came out in 1939 , also in a interview with bob kane he said that the inspiration came from the 1926 the bat

  • @multicomicbookgeek See my response to ziggycat999 below for the astonishing answer.

  • @terminalpictures i dont get it

  • @terminalpictures i dont get it

  • @terminalpictures oh now i get it you got these films together and made a little short film . that is cool

  • strange!!!! :)

  • It's me or Bruce Wayne's mother is really really older than his father?

  • Fantastic effort. taht music is eerie and fits well with the theme

  • The Bat (1926) is an excellent movie.

There's many interesting parts and unusual scenes in it.

  • Haha, I like how with the april fool's prank, you can make the silent movie even more silent movier.

  • watching this with the youtube 1911 thing makes it funny x)

  • How was this by Bob Kane when he was 12 years old? And Bill Finger too? Kinda bull#hit here going on here!

  • @ziggycat999 Hey, Columbo -- maybe you'll crack the case if you learn how to fuckin' read. They didn't have synthesizers in the 20s, either.

  • cool

  • this is a mixture of a few old films? the scenes with the guy dressed as a bat is from a different fim to the scene where young wayne talks about becoming a bat. whats the name of the film with wayne in?

  • man i love that score!

  • Silent Shadow?

Might as well be a loud shadow, they don't make sounds.

  • @superhamzah85 It's called "a metaphor to describe the silent film influences shadowing Batman's creation, Mr. Wizard"

  • Most excellent. My compliments!

  • i love it!

  • You are an arttist, I wish I would have thought of this first. the film clips, works great with your story line. It was flipping great entertainment for me!

  • Really one of the few creative finds on YouTube. Lovin' it so far.

  • Haven't watched this in a while....still great

  • The comics that came before this were way better he didn't use a gun! This movie sucks

  • @vulcarr He didn't use a gun? if you've ever read any of the early 1939-1940 issues of Detective Comics (pre Robin) Batman was pretty fond of killing off criminals with guns and various other means, in Batman number 1 (1940) he cold bloodedly machine guns a couple of villains to death with the statement "Much as I hate to take human life. I'm afraid THIS time it's necessary!"

  • @cha5 yeah, it was only two things that made him change: 1. Concerned parents 2. Being able to reuse villains after they're "defeated." Also, these movies came before the comics.

  • The insanity is captured nicely.

  • how old is Bat-man?

  • This is Damn good! for a silent film

  • Very awesome!

  • big ass ears

  • Very well done. The use of scenes from "The Bat" combined with fan-made intertitles make for a very convincing video. The music makes it all the more chilling, however. While Batman works great as a detective, as a soldier, and a madman, I'll always love the spooky, Dracula-inspired Batman the most, and this little project truly captures that.

  • sure.... just a fake.

the golem, the man whos laughing, the bat and more....

but very originally!!! the taken pictures are perfect to simulate the existance of a silent movie-batman.

but its disturbing how perfect the taken pictures fits to the storyline of 1939!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • All of the scene was taken by the film ' The Bat '. So it makes you wonder that Bob Kane must've got the inspiration from that movie instead of getting it from Leonardo Da Vinci 's bat wings.

  • Dude, this is BRILLIANT!!! And well done, sir!!

  • Does anyone relize this was before BatMan and was fron the movie The Bat by Mary Roberts Reinhart?? People sure are gullible

  • A nice fake with certainly a mix between an old movie or more than one, false old video parts and a text that has been written to fit the entire video. In that I'm joining the comments of Bandit 7498 : better know about Batman's origins and read about the History of movies, wether silents or with sounds. Apart from all that it's very well done

  • will he looks like man bat

  • this is the most eerie and chilling film i may ever see

  • Fortunately for you the copyrights for most of these classic films have expired -- I think. The Man Who Laughs and Caligari remain among my favorites. I have never seen The Bat. I hope to someday.

  • Don't copyrights take a 100 years to expire? (I think this is at least true for books.) If that's also true for films then I wish I lived in 2100. All the cool stuff could be used. films arent even around for 100 years yet. Well, not really anyway. You know what I mean.

  • this is the most "not so fag" & "darkest" batman interpretation

  • Stunning, chilling, and elusive. This piece was awesome.

  • what's the ambient music? Sounds great, somthing I really want to see in a batman movie.

  • Even now the Bat is scary looking. And making an inspiration for Batman makes him even cooler.

  • this is what helped bob kane create batman and the man who laughs was what inspired the joker, the man certainly loved his silent movies

  • Back in those days when Batman was first created nearly all the films were silent lol

  • @JBalmoreS It's obvious most of the people looking at this know very little about Batman OR movies. 1st, despite what the title says, Batman wasn't created until 1938 and didn't make his 1st comic book appearance until 1939. So how could there have been a movie made for Batman in the '20s? 2nd, by 1939 there was no such thing as silent films anymore. They had long been replaced by sound. People need to brush up on their history.

  • lol he has big ears

  • This is fabulous. Exactly what a 1920s-era Batman film would be like.

  • Classic!

  • So beautiful.... An inspiration for fans everywhere.

  • Wow awesome, so film noir. I would tag that too :)

  • So nice that you gave proper credit to Bill Finger, the true creator of Batman! I just wish DC/Warner did the same...

  • did this movie really came out in 1920???

  • yes i have it

  • LOL... Clemenza killed Bruce's parents? I though it was Joe Chill

  • just to let every one know, this movie was originally called the bat. It was the inspration for batman, and it's not about the batman that we all know. The batman in this movie is a killer who dresses up as a bat and the bat symbol in this movie is used by the killer to frighten his victems before he comes in for the kill.

  • ...ooookkkkkaaayyy....lol

  • Thats dumb - he saw a rubber bat, so he should become....

    ...Rubber-Bat-Man!!!!

  • You already have the theatrical movies 1989-2008 for that.

  • beautifull, with such a haunting music.

  • Wow, this Batman is WAAAAAAAAAAY out there, look at the ears, man, silent movies always creep me out, scary, dark ones do, its just, unsettling really.

  • This cool too bad it wasn't a real movie version its really alot better than the batman serial version 43 this is how the movie should have worked for the serial movie too bad would have made more money

  • a fan film...but one of the better ones by far

  • batman may 10 1939 #27

  • ...detective comics 27

  • This is terrific! You did this? Using old film clips? Brilliant!

    Cheers, John

  • "The Bat Whispers" was a 1930 early sound film also directed by Roland West, and was actually a remake of this film "The Bat".

  • the footage is from the 1926 Roland West film "The Bat". This film was lost for decades until a print was found in the 70s or 80s.

What 'terminalpictures' is trying to do is reconstruct the film in a manner that Bob Kane 'might' have seen it in formulating what eventually became Batman.

'The Bat' was lost for years. Tod Browning's "London After Midnight", the first American vampire film, remains lost.

  • DC Comics was founded in 1934. So there is no way that the Batman we all know came before this. This is I believe was The Bat Whispers. A 1930's film that helped inspired Batman. Although I could be completely wrong on this.

  • they made batman earlier, as a sideshow comic in Detective Comics #27 1939. get your facts straight

  • So your saying 1939 happened before 1934? Or am I reading this wrong?

  • no im saying your fact is wrong, the batman came earlier then this fan movie. and in 1939 was when batman came

  • its an amateur video

  • you idiot its a fan made film with a black and white effect, and wikiepedia is wrong 55% iof the time due too the fact that anyone can write for them free without getting checked

  • This is the movie that inspired Bob Kane of doing batman.

  • Exactly, the movie inspired the comic years later

  • It couldn't be a Batman Movie of 1920... because Batman was created by Bob Kane in 1939!!!

  • Bob Kane said that he was inspired by the 1926 movie The Bat (directed by Roland West). The Bat-Light signal is from this movie.

  • Absolutely brilliant. And I am not just gabbing here. This film feels authentic and captures the feel of a silent film to the last detail. You should be proud

  • Awesome!

  • that bat logo..look carefully and you will see its the outline of a dress

  • vlw pelo post

    uma dúvida?

termina na parte 04 o filme??

    até mais

  • kool

  • May 1939 - January 14th 2009 (70 years)

    Batman is officially Dead

    Final Crisis #6

  • What the hell ar you talkin about?

  • there's a mini series in DC comics call "Final Crisis" and in this story a lot a things are happen like in issue #6 Batman gets killed

and at the last page of the issue Superman is holding his lifeless body

so like my last comment said "Batman is officially Dead"

  • sure in that series hes dead but ,in a different series that may have never happened and hes is still alive, u try to act like u know but u dont

  • It's just another in a long line of comic book gimmicks that DC is doing, like when they "killed" Superman in the 90's. We all know how that turned out. Anyone who thinks that Batman will still be "dead" by this time next year is pretty gullible.

  • I know he's not really dead cause DC's really not going to kill off there biggest character now

and to residentpswii the fuk you talkin about?

  • no me imagine que batman es mucho mas viejo, es increible la historia de sus inicios, es increible, me impreciona mucho ver que es de los años 20

  • FW Murnau has met his match! Huzzah! :)

  • for me murnau is actually the best director ever: nosferatu is one of my fav movies

  • you've done an amazing job rearranging all these vids. you know what would be even coooler? if you shot a silent batman movie yourself =O

  • lol silent era

  • batmans main weapon is fear so he pretty much scares who he pleases, not only that he is also a detective which means if he doesnt beat you now, he'll figure you out later. ask superman....lol

  • Bob Kane actually got the idea for Batman from the source material from this movie "The Bat" He also used Conrad Veidt from "The Man who Laughs" as a source for the Joker. This is an interesting project because it uses the original ideas for Batman to tell the origin of Batman---

  • yeah, some people (for example avgn) say that, other people say he is inspired by leonardo davinci

  • so he literally scared little children then huh?

  • Oh I get it, you cut up some old movies to make this one! Very good job! I thought this was an actual movie made in the 20s. Which wouldn't make since because the 1st Batman Comic came 1939.

  • is this the first Batman ever? even the comics don't have that Bat suit! this is excellent! i'm in awe! such a dark and eerie mood with the music and black and white picture! Bob Kane rules!

  • this is good, but the music is creepy !

  • Pssst... keep this under your hat, but that was kinda the idea.

  • really beautifully constructed. the music and everything from start to finish is excellent. i have not seen all of it because i need to compliment you now. great work...

  • Then HOODLUM! God I love that line had me cracking up.

  • Well done!

  • nicely moody and evocative.

  • of course it's real, actually if you think about this was the first batman movie, if it's a movie i remember watching this when i was a kid, and always wanted to see it again, but it's real

  • is this real?

  • Very clever- extremely well put together film. This is exactly how I imagine a late 1800s- early 1900s Batman film would be like.

  • khrm.. wasn't batman created in late 30's?

  • Read the description!

  • this was brilliantly done

  • batman is appeared in the 30s

  • You is not read the description.

  • Pass the cheese

  • woah.... this is better than the 2008 dark knight. i really enjoyed the 08 dark knight, but wow!

thanks for the upload. loved this

  • I love Batman! I love silent movies! This is like they had a child! And I love this child!

  • Then...Hoodlum!

    Lol

Cool vid. Very creative concept. And creepy atmosphere.

  • Straordinario batman in versione espressionista tedesco e nonostante l'età come rendeva fottutamente

  • exquisite!

  • great!

  • De-flader Mouse

  • something about these videos just gives me the creeps

  • fuckin' A...

  • so this movie actualy exsists....and is what inspired the creation of batman by bob kane?

    wow, interresting indeed

  • Well, "The Bat" certainly exists but he's portrayed as a burglar in the original, skulking around with ropes and so forth. Check out the proto-Batsignal too.Its a fun watch if a tad slow, the Bat himself is only in the film for 4-5 minutes or so...most of which I use here There are two remakes, the dull and drab "The Bat Whispers" from the 30s and a campy Vincent Price rendition from uhmmm... late 50s? Early 60s? I'm too lazy for imdb but not lazy enough to babble on at length.

  • still, very good find

  • Yeah. Kane mentions "The Bat Whispers" as an influence a few times but the outfit in the remake is much more drab. I love this nutty trenchcoat and huge-eared Bat mask. Lovely teeth.

  • I heartly agree with you.

  • Thank you for doing this, I am a sucker for learning about what inspire artists and writers to think up of characters and situations and this well done.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAA !!!!!!! Cool ! You should try to prepare some Laurel&Hardy-flicks with your titles - maybe you can change Laurel into IRON MAN and Hardy into HULK.

  • i tough batman was created in the years 1930

  • The character known as "The Bat-Man" was actually created by an act of Congress in 1861. Martin Van Buren was considered instrumental in building the popular support needed to pass this landmark legislation concerning such a costumed hero.

  • hahaha! XD

    Wow. XD

  • i think he was createtd in 1929 but it became famous in da 30s

  • I think you are confusing the creation of Batman with the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand.

  • Great!!

  • hahahahah!!!!.....so corny!!!!

  • Fantastic! Now everyone can see where Bob Kane and Bil Finger got their inspiration from! Thank you!

  • man....that music is freaking scary-awesome!

  • Great soundtrack!

  • You son of a bitch! you made this! You fooled me into thinking this was old, but i realized the music was out of context and is actually modern influenced.

  • I fooled you by cleverly explaining all of this in that big box on the right side of the screen... devious bastard, he is.

  • i don't understand, batman was created in 1939 and this is a silent movie from the 1029's, so where did you get it, o what film is?

  • this is sort of eerie

  • I thought there was no Batman before the DC-Comics....

I guess I was totally wrong...

  • Amazing job. Congrats.

  • brilliant, congrats... and thank you.

  • Nice lighting

  • The background music, what is it? Great job on the video, really really well done.

  • Those darlings of the drone world, Palker and Perkowski. Maybe a cat sitting on the synth.

  • If F.W Murnau made a Batman film, it would look like this. Man, you should totally try to scrape together a budget and film your own Gotham by Gaslight type of fanflick. This Vid and #2 are so atmospheric! Batman totally lends itself to the dripping, dark gothic eerieness envoked in these clips--all shadows and suggestion... Kinda like Nosferatu, where you see the crooked, slender shadow climbing the stairs and later stopping the girl's heart.. I wish I'd thought of this idea first!

  • Nice job. I particularly like the written cards. I show clips of silents in classes and yours look like the real deal.

  • Whew, an official academic view on a contraversial issue. The folks at Fark were complaining about them, sure they are wordy (as was the 1939 Bill Finger origin comic I was adapting) but on the cheaper productions that often happens. A bit too much shake, I'll go lighter on that next time. Thanks!

  • well done!! +5

  • men, u rocks....!

    5* for you...!

  • Brilliant !!

  • he looks like a burgeler and not much of a bat mobil LOL im still going to "FAVORITE" IT.. ohhh man but hes mask is cool

  • Lovely effort but rather heavy on the title cards--

  • And its adjusted for short attention spans! Real silent movies would hold 'em for two or three times longer. Still, must've cut down on production costs.

  • This is awesome! I love the use of the "found" footage, from Caligari et al. You are a very talented compositor and director. Where did you get your music?
