  • thank you for your videos, you have helped me so much, keep em comming!!!!!!!

  • 6:00 White can take with his knight on c6 anyway. After black takes with bishop, white retakes with the bishop at g2 and black has to take back with his pawn and black has triple pawns.

  • Pretty soon computers will be to fast and waaay to tactical to even hope to beat

But wait let me think... did the computers build themselves?

Did deep blue give itself its own electricity? But wait better yet who can smash the computer into tiny pieces if he gets frustrated

  • Again, I like the analysis it's easy to listen to, good job :)

  • "Gettin' all up in the grill of Deep Blue"....he says it so nonchalantly...

  • Humans.. The Best!

  • Great analysis Kevin!

  • At 16.40 why not play black Rook to a6, white queen is trapped, and in case of exchange black would be up in material. Am I missing something?

  • @rocco7050 black rook to a6, white queen to b7, black queen takes white queen, white bishop takes black queen. Now Deep Blue must move his rook to b6 to save both the rook and the bishop, while Kasparov can safely retreat with his bishop, while Deep Blue's rook and bishop are blocked because moving one of those two mean losing the other.

  • Why doesn't white (at about 8:44 ) just take the rook on a8 with his queen? Wouldn´t he be trading a queen for a rook and a queen?

  • @HermanosZerep He would lose the Knight on c4 as well, so it wouldn't be advantageous.

  • @HermanosZerep Right, but then after the exchange black would just take a second knight with his own knight making the trade 2 knights and a queen for a queen and a rook and with black in a better position.

  • @HermanosZerep lol thats exactly what i thought :)

  • why do you call the queen a he

  • @Sam712630 Thanks man.

  • Why does the video by "alexteclo" (Deep Blue vs Kasparov) say that Deep Blue won game 1 and Kasparov resigned game 2 while in a drawn position, but this one says Deep Blue won game 1 and Kasparov won game 2??... I'm confused...which is true??

  • @HuumpDutchDodgers I'm pretty sure there's a bunch more games played between Kasparov and the computer than this guy posted

  • @yisoonshin12 Yeah there were at least 12 games in 1996 and another 12 in 1997 - if you search "Kasparov v Deep Blue" it actually comes up with all the games played in both years, from game 1 to the final game which was lost by Kasparov in just 19 moves!! He resigned, he misplayed the opening, a premature ...h6 allowing a devestating knight sac on f7, Kasparov was uncastled and fell victim to a devestating attack - I urge you to look it up!! :)

  • @harKazoid86 humans get tired & frustrated

  • Make the deep blue games a playlist that way they're all nice and organized

  • Would Deep Blue beat today's generic programs such as Fritz and Rybka?

  • @snizshizzle no

  • 31:59 loses to bc4#, I think thats why it wasn't played ;)

  • Silly computer, you can't beat us :)

  • @gkcnae It did and in jeopardy too.

  • @1Novatrek but who created it? :P

  • At 31:59 if the king went to e6 white can mate with Bc4

  • what website you play on?

  • Great videos! Any chance you can add a "latest uploads" board to the home page of your website? That way I don't miss it if you do videos for any of the other classic games you have posted :)

  • At 33:46 Kasparov should have played Bd3 i think.

  • You are very talented at explaining chess. Keep it up! It is enjoyable and at the same time am learning a lot.

  • I play shredder on hard., Black white black white etc. In 20 game series it used to beat me 18-0 with 2 draws, tho now i'm getting stronger and getting some wins. When i reach 40% success rate per 20 games i will be ready for humans. Shredder has taught me in-between moves, sacrifices, and an instinctive nose for danger, especially PAWN ADVANCES and exchanges that create pawn weaknesses.Shredder is the perfect opponent. It doesn't fart, cough, smoke, talk or get tired, and plays brilliantly!!

  • Your videos would be much better if they weren't so long. You repeat yourself too much and you use too many words. Otherwise, the commentary is pretty nice.

  • @thechesswesite

it would be very cool in my opinion if you had live games between you and random people, can always just play then edit your audio into the vid later

  • @thechesswebsite whats ur rating?

  • you should play live games

  • The only thing I don't like about him playing deep blue is that there aren't any amazing memorable moves like the queen sack in the game of the century. I know that it's because it is basically two super computers going against each other. They're both amazing games, but that's just how I feel about it.

  • 11000 view

  • What prevents Kasparov at 30:10 from Qd5 ... Qxf7+ ... and then moving the h-pawn up to be promoted?

  • At 32:13, if Ke6, White would not play Qd7 check, as you say, but Bc4 with a mate. :)

  • by the way, at 13:16, Kasparov would not have sacrificed the pawn at b2, since if taken, he could compensate by capturing the black pawn at a7.

  • Thanks Kevin, good explanation, however if you try to use less words like "definitely" or "again", it would be much better.

  • im getting sick of the word 'definitely'

  • This game reminds me of a line from Star Trek, TNG, where Picard tells data that it is possible to make no mistakes, yet still lose. This is exactly what happened to Deep Blue. The AI made no real "mistakes" throughout the game, yet still lost.

  • Thanks, Kevin, interesting as always.

  • ...all up in the grill of deep blue. :)

  • Wow, what an amazing game by Kasparov. Beating a supercomputer in chess, that's something unbelievable, but i don't think that any chess player could beat Rybka nowadays.

  • Great analysis.

p.s. i think all your viewers know what "en passant" means.

  • Computers are stupid. They just do what we tell them and the fact that Kasparov manages to even get multiple wins on one game against Deep Blue is equivalent to Gary playing against every impressive players and a win was implausible.Controversy was inevitably going to happen.

  • kevin can you make a video about the dragon sicilian yugoslav attack?

  • @CapnSoviet he already did, look on his website

  • Does anyone know what chess program he is using?

  • it take some time guys ... be patient with keven haha :P

  • how did u upload videos longer than 15 minutes

  • I could have sworn you already uploaded the '96 game 2

  • a rook controls the same number of squares no matter where it is on the board.

  • having the king go down to e6 at 32:00 would have been a bigger mistake than you think... white bishop to c4 checkmate.

  • @scrivs01 well spotted I missed that! :)

  • So did Deep Blue give the 1 dislike? :)

  • Kevin, please make more vidoes of your games, like on the ICC or ChessCube.

    PLEASE!

  • take that stupid machine. :) human rules.

  • @ghostking0 I was actually rooting for Big Blue :P

  • cat al an haha, ive always heard it as catalan but idk man keep the vids coming i dont care how you pronounce words

  • Upload all Kasporav vs Deep Blue.... it is an order.

  • at 32:12 couldn't white just play bc4 check mate? If the former move from black had been ke6?

  • @ArmadylRanger12 Yes, that's what I also reacted on. I guess he missed it. :)

  • Love these videos but would love it more to see more of them!

  • I don't have any chess classes but I have youtube and Kevin's chanel. I'm satisfied.

  • ey Kevin, youre great!

  • i though computers dont resign :0

  • @Mfunn when they play Kasparov they do :) Deep Blue actually had a team that "ran" the computer and they stepped in and waved the white flag. This is where a lot of the controversy came in the next year as Kasparov claimed the "team" was playing instead of the computer.

  • @Mfunn Fritz and many other modern chess engines resign.

It's actually a bit annoying because I never figured out how to turn it off.

If you're practicing endgames you like to play until the last move, not just until the computer decides he's lost; especially when you're not good enough to understand why. ^^

  • reti into kings indian... you'll never see that in todays top play yet gasparov would crush all of todays players, i think chess players need to stop relying so much on computers

  • @FockerTheLopper it happens all the time , so easily actually if c4 is play its reti and if e4 then kia and it started out qgd even with nf3 on move 1

  • @guitarfella581 the point i was trying to make is that the reti isn't used anymore because machines say it's inferior to d4 and to a lesser extent e4

  • @FockerTheLopper it was just used by svilder and he beat kramnick with it its still used and will be used for a LONg time computers arent always right, esepcially in the first couple of moves where as in the endgame theyre unbeatable. 1.nf3 honestly just turns into qg with a different move order, reiti , and are you saying the d4 is better than d4? it hasnt been proven yet in fact the opeing hasnt been figuered out completely quit mindlessy listening to what rybka says

  • The dislike came from an IBM account :)

  • @triplefire0x hahaha xD

  • Thanks for doing these. love the vids.

  • Another point at 24:50, if black does not move his queen then it will be lost either to 1. Qh7+ Kf8 2. Qh8+ Ke7 3. Qxc8. If the black queen simply moves away to any other part of the board, white can follow through with the same inital two moves to clear the king out and make way for his passed h pawn, so black really had very little choice in moves here!

  • I love how you call the queen "him". Good analysis though, cheers.

  • @76HabeasCorpus He probably meant the player with that, and not the queen itself:)

  • @Menegoth

I know, but there is a point early on in the annotation where he is specifically referring to the queen herself and calling her him, I.E he (the queen) could occupy this square, he (the queen) watches over that square. Pedantic I know but I couldn't help noticing

  • @76HabeasCorpus Well since chess is pretty much a man's game, I think it's easier for him to address everthing, both player and pieces, as masculine by default

  • i just watched 35 minutes of chess... and enjoyed every second of it....... please make haste with the next video @_@

  • i was wondering, why was big blue's win so contraversial.. i mean how can a computer cheat?

  • @justsshitsandgiggles If I remember correctly Kasparov played a pawn sack that he knew helped him and he knew the computer will take (they are grossly materialistic). Kasparov claimed that the operator of Deep Blue (The person who actually moved the pieces) saw that the pawn sack was bad and avoided it. Kasparov said that Deep Blue would have taken the pawn. He demanded that the analysis that Deep Blue had on that move, but they refused to show Deep Blue's Analysis. Thus starting controversy.

  • did u re-upload?

  • Nice edit btw ;) had to watch this game again, great commentary, awesome match.

  • so do u mean tht altho white has lost lots more material, it doesn't matter n white' s still gonna win?

  • @16:38 - Is there something wrong with Deep Blue playing Ra6, trying to trap the queen? It seems to me that it is at least forcing a queen trade on b7 or a8 OR a trade of a rook and bishop for a queen. Perhaps the latter is undesirable as it leads to dynamic imbalances in the position?

  • YOU ARE THE BEST

  • I just love thsi videos.. but why do you take so long to upload them.. I know taht we all have things to do.. but you just kill me with the waiting D: <!! you are just so mean to me ):!

  • @DibujEx I will try to upload them with more frequency.

  • @thechesswebsite

I like your channel (for chess) better than any I have seen for one main reason. Great Commentary.

You also have a good speaking voice.

I am curious Are you a master or grandmaster?

one thing I have seen on other sites I liked was a better board program. It had different colored arrows, like red showing all possible attacks, and showed all possible moves.

That would be great, and we could learn even more from your videos.

  • @thechesswebsite Upload more plz!!!....the analysis from you is much better than other youtubers in chess.

  • @DibujEx It takes time to do a 35 minute analysis video.

  • A good way to teach someone about en passant, is that the end result is the same.

A pawn that moves up one square and gets taken is the same as a pawn that moves two squares and gets taken en passant.

  • Wonderful game. Thanks for posting, looking forward to the rest of the series.

  • @29:51 until 30:18 why not trade queens and when the black king takes, gobble up the f7 pawn?

  • @oddball7342 great question. As a mere mortal it would be tough not to do exactly what you are talking about. Kasparov is a machine and saw an extended line where he thought he could gain two pawns instead of just one. That's why he's so great.

  • @thechesswebsite thks, great vid as always.

  • @thechesswebsite I think you have it backwards - Deep Blue is the machine, Kasparov is the human. Just messin with you ;) good vid

  • @thechesswebsite Yeah, there were a good 8-10 moves in there he could have arranged a queen trade and been up a pawn. I as well could not have even begun to resist. Amazing play, truly amazing...

  • @oddball7342 white queen at this moment is better than black queen..

  • @oddball7342 opposite colour bishop endings are almost allways drawn, and this is no exception. white is a pawn up after Queen trade and Bxf7, but his initiative is gone. Remember, with opposite colour bishops you should attack, especially with queens still on the board. i doubt kasparov has seen that deep in the position, he just followed this rule of keeping the pressure on

  • Sorry jerry but could you please explain why didn't kasparov move the pawn he had on the A-file @20:22 ?

  • I've said it before and I'll say it again

I enjoy your use of the word "gobble"

  • After Bg2, why not cxd4?

  • taking water breaks?

  • @Franchan10 The volumn isn't consistant, but taking trial and error, breaks, and looking ahead is probably part of water breaks.

  • @958933 win

  • oh. nvm. yesturday he must of made a small error, before the rook took the other rook on b7, so when the queen retook it was in line with the white bishop. he must've fixed that.

  • I love this series :D

  • "tryin to get all up in the grill of Deep Blue" lmao

  • why didnt the bishop just take the queen lol

  • @CyberCheese392 ikr. he uploaded this yesturday and took it down for some reason...
