Lots of biggoted people here whom want to kill an entire groups of people, hmmmmhhmmm and they do this because they claim the other groups wants to kill people, and they are only killing people because.... Yeah right they just hate germans... Simple as that...
Notice the record being played has the classic Parlophone logo on it - or Parlophon as it was back then. A British institution born in Germany. Coincidence?
Well I'm not sure about the pipe, but there certainly was a "pervy" vibe to the way he looked at the daughters in the opening scene (also they way he made his entrace in that black coat) - I don't think this side of his character was developed further in the film, though :)
@twooffour Agree. I was just thinking about the way in which he has to have a bigger pipe immediately after LaPadite gets out his. Just a thought, which is the point of films.
At ease, Campbell1004. Sorry for my sloppy wording, but I agree that history shows Rommell wasn't a Nazi. He was a humane soldier with great respect for his military foes, and ultimately murdered by Hitler too
@RicardosRealm Rommel was a pretty decent guy as Nazis go (maybe more than that, seeing how he tried to kill Hitler, and was a warrior more than a politician)
@BlackOut321123: Rommel wasn't actually involved in a plot to kill Hitler, but he did routinely disregard Hitler's orders and was a pretty honourable fellow. I certainly thought of him when I saw the "easy-going general who doesn't need to salute properly." Love that lol
The "slightly pervy" general reminds me of the character played by Derren Nesbitt in Where Eagles Dare which also starred Anton Diffring, a German actor who made a career out of playing Nazi officers in British war films of the 50s, 60s and 70s

The music is Wagner but it is not part of Der Ring Des Niebelungen. it is the introduction to act III of Lohengrin.

@TheUkecadet Thanks! Do you also happen to know which part it is?

how much I loved the spicey Nazi-German women, with their stockings and outfits... the uniforms of the Nazi's were quite impressive too, tbh

@DarkAngelEU Hugo Boss actually designed many of the uniforms, thats why they are so cool :)

Genius.

Hans Landa was the easy-going + cultured and likes women (without the rest, though) + alternately polite and short-tempered :D
And a lot more, obviously.
twooffour 6 months ago
@twooffour And slightly gay- possibly. Tarantino had him introduce the huge pipe (in the first scene) as a symbol of his sexual insecurity.

Absolute classic. BTW, Docus 254, you are a tool as Enemy at the Gates was made in 2001 and this was done in the 90s

@mioplex He's not a doofus, he was just saying how that guy fitted the stereotype - just like Hans Landa fits in too.

Love the easy-going Nazi ( if it is actually possible to love a fictional Nazi! ) with the different-coloured-uniform - obviously based on Rommell.
