  • Francium is highly radioactive and no-one can ever access it, no-one even knows the colour of it. Or the power.

  • 1g of sodium only releases about a half a liter of hydrogen gas which isn't enough to burst the bottle

  • Rubidium and Ceesium..?

  • Francium would probably do it. But yeah they should have used caesium

  • No cannon balls?

  • Any idea how much Caesium it would take?

  • @kabivose 2g

  • STOP SAYING "USE FRANCIUM" NO ONE HAS EVER EVEN SEEN FRANCIUM!! IT'S GONE IN SECONDS AND THERE WOULD BE BETTER USES FOR IT THAN THROWING INTO WATER IF IT COULD LAST LONG ENOUGH TO STUDY IT!!

  • jeez people no one has access to francium

  • @fwepable That is normal...the half life of francium is retadly short. It is only produce in low quantity and is impossible to use. They wouldn't be able to put it in a capsule. They could have use cesium...but it's expensive!

  • francium would decay before they could get it in the capsule...

they should've used sodium metal powder (which can be made under a dry nitrogen atmosphere) to maximize surface area to boost the reaction rate)

  • Mac, y u no tell truth?

  • for all of you who dont know, less than 30 grams of francium was found on earth.. nobody has access to it

  • Use Francium

  • Francium would have a huger explosion than ceseium though it would kill them

  • Mythbusters- making science fun. :D

  • High tech bomb refusal suit...and a broom.

  • Use piss. The piss would dissolve it quicker =D

  • I love this show! :D

  • "When in doubt, C4" Jamie Oliver

  • 5:43 (imitating the hillbilly from the Bugs Bunny cartoon) "Ah think y'all 'r usin' too strong a-fluid!!!'

  • I thought they were going to another a better Alcaline, e.i. Cesium, instead of C4 =/

  • hah, what wall?

  • 5:18 is the best part :D

  • "When in doubt… C4"

  • 3:56 creeper explosion sound

  • Comment removed

  • I want pure sodium for my birthday... and J.D. to come and blow it up

  • "When in doubt....C4!" most favorite quote ever, and I couldn't agree more!

  • magyver had a giant moustache?

  • I think MacBuster shit his pants a little bit when the broke out the C-4

  • no shell/cap so nothing to push the wall. (on the potassium test)

  • 5:34 best laugh ever!

  • Christ guys, this is basic fucking chemistry. Of course it wouldn't explode like that.

  • "When in doubt, C-4." My favorite quote ever!!!!!!

  • DUMP SOME CEASIUM IN IT

  • buster is fucken tough

  • It's Macgyver

  • they should have used cesium

  • they should have used it in powder form

powder => more surface area => higher reaction rate

= more energy released in shorter time

    Basic kinetics

  • @kingkaifist That wasn't in the MacGuyver myth.

  • @GreatSirZachary I know, but it would have been interesting to see if it had yielded a better result.

I don't remember the scene, but is the sodium in the capsule in one block?

If you can't see it clearly it may have been in powder form, you never know.

  • Try some francium. If that fails, I will be laughing... Hard.

  • "when in doubt, use C4"...

so jamie is tell me, when i do not know any questions on my exams/test, i should use C4 to blow the paper up? LOL!

  • Coolest nerds ever! :D

  • C4=WTF!!!!!!!

  • 'When in doubt... c-4, heheh' lol XD

  • Nerdz

  • 2:49 looks like a bada** depository (the pills that go up your a**)

  • They should have tried Cesium or Francium. They may not have worked either but they are much more reactive than the potassium.

  • try mixing some baking soda with it , for in instant reaction.

  • When in doubt... C4. Haha.

  • when in doubt . . . BOMB IT OUT!!!!

  • 5:40 is magic the wall is gone

  • quack damn you

  • USE FRANCIUM:P

  • use loads of rubidium, loads and loads

  • use loads of rubidium, loads and loads

  • C4 is the new god

  • Lol I'd love to see them try Francium

  • Rubidium or cesium might have worked however francium is highly radioactive

  • idiots, they need cesium its twice as powerful as potassium

  • @tenebnaes Also rare, so I doubt McGyver can just FIND a nice pill of cesium or rubidium

  • I'd love to see this test done with high-test peroxide instead of water.

  • wont blow a hole in toilet paper... epic^^

  • When in doubt ... C4.

    'Nuff said, Jamie. :)

  • jamie looks like a juggernaut

  • If they used cesium, it might work. Or francium, if it were stable.

  • adam: "We want a hole in the wall."

    J.D. (my initials!): "how big?"

  • you never know when some C4 might come in handy

  • (*picks up bottle*)

    ITS CLEAR

    *BOOM*

  • use francium or cesium

  • or cesium

  • rubidium would have done the trick

  • 1 g Na -> 0.04 mol Na -> 20.4 kJ heat released in water -> raises a bottle (500 mL) of water by 10 degrees Celcius -> not enough to vaporize

  • I can't belive they even thought of trying this myth, There must be some really dumb people out there to belive Sodium or Potassium would ever blow a hole in a wall... Now a Shaped Charge, Now were talkin.... lol

  • Sodium is very unpredictable. Sometimes t barely fizzes, sometimes it ignites and explodes.

  • when in doubt, C4!-- the reason i love mythbusters!

  • Check out 'braniac alkali metals' here on youtube instead... seems like the right metal might do the trick :)

  • What a blast to watch.

  • what is patacium and what do you need it for and where do you get that lol..

  • @Xpermentproductions It's potassium. Your body needs it. There's a lot of it in bananas. Not enough to blow through a wall though.

  • @Xpermentproductions "potassium", it's an element, and is not used for much. As you can see it's very dangerous. You can buy it from unitednuclear(dot)com though, $50 for the weight of a U.S. nickel. There are cheaper explosives out there.

  • Robin Banks, come back!

  • The new Stargate era McGuyver tactic :D

  • they shoulda used caesium

  • francium would be even cooler

  • some Cesium would've been cool.

  • Why didn't the sodium react with the air?

  • The myth busters also did a show where they put cesium and rubidium in water.

  • I was hoping they'd break out the potassium, but I guess it wasn't strong enough.

Would it have been legal for them to have tried the Rubidium, Caesium, of Francium? Now THAT would have been cool... *evil laughter*

  • i knew they couldn't go with out a boom

  • i was thinking that they should use c4 on it and then when jamie said there gonna use it i shited my pants!

  • 5:25 also epic lol :)

  • 3:37 lol

  • use Cesium or at least Rubidium. That really explodes.

Or maybe if they'd pressurized the bottle.

  • or francium, but thats totally unrealistic. lol

  • Yeah that decays too fast. It would be awesome though

  • haha jamies laugh at 5:26

  • You do realize that after the first three episodes the government told them to make it unrealistic... or else. So now McGuyver teaches us that we can make tanks with a paper clip two matches and some masking tape.

  • "we can make tanks with a paper clip two matches and some masking tape." OMG how dumb can some people get? You forgot the used chewing gum wrapper and the apple core, lol I'd like to see you go to war without those two things.

  • I knew I was forgetting something. Now I WILL be prepared. Thanks.

  • they should have used cesium or Rb

  • Or if they could get their hands on it (which I doubt, despite their awesomeness) some Francium

  • The dummy was so shocked, its hair flew off! And he has that shocked expression.

  • the should have gone to francium, its way further down in group one on the periodic table and is ALOT more unstable than potasium. probibly still wouldnt have gone through the wall but it would have been cool

  • francium lives for 21 minutes and then turns into an isotope, because it's a radioactive metal. They should have gone on cesium.

  • then they would have 21 minutes to blow that wall up :p but yes. i see your point. I sucked at chemistry tbh and physics. the oly thing i was actually good at in science was biology.

  • sodium-Bing

    potassium-Bang

    C4-BOOM

  • @fenrir6192008 nonono c4 is ka BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOm

  • @fenrir6192008

    what about Cs?

  • @fenrir6192008 Nuke KAfucking bang boooooooooooooooooooooooomjewhkdrgyghn#@#@#$@#$

  • @fenrir6192008

    rocket - KABOOM!!!!!

  • C-4 perfect for the perfect bang!

  • any alkali metal more reactive than potassium is too rare, too expensive and too dangerous to use on this show. calm down. they got C4, didn't they?

  • why not caesium.

  • Both Caesium and Francium are both radioactive, thats why

  • how bout CS

  • WHEN IN DOUBT, C4!!!!

  • I know that its illegal but why didn't they use francium cause things beeing against the law havn't stopped them before

  • There is only about 25 grams of francium in the whole Earth's crust, and it's a different 25 grams at any given time. Francium only exists naturally part way down the decay path of heavier elements.

  • when Adam said it knocked the wig right off.

Jamie quickly takes off the mustache so adam doesnt joke about how Buster Looks Like jamie.

  • joelllllll

  • ive been looking for potassium metal and i found this vid. i look myth busters

  • 5:53 the doll just lost its hair n went bald over fear of the explosion XP

  • when in doubt, c4

  • How big? :D

  • JAJAJAJA, "MY COMPADRE" JAJAJAJA

  • Lame amounts of Sodium! I used to take a softball sized hunk of sodium, wrap it in several layers of paper towel, drop it in a crisco can filled with water and run like hell. THAT is a neat and great explosion that gets attention from blocks away. Ahh the days of youth.

  • Mc Guyver???

  • cesium isnt too amazing.

should have used a potassium powder.

  • Or they should have used some Rubidium. Or maybe something else. XD

  • They did, in the end: C4. :D

  • C4 isn't Rubidium. But Rubidium or maybe Caesium might have done a bit more lol.

  • wtf at the end the cop or w.e man in black said "Busted" bitch u aint worthy to say "busted"

  • hes an explosives expert

  • it can't be that strong if it was it would be used in the military, but they use C4 :D

  • mythbusters heres a challenge try 100g of francium mwuhahahahahaahahaha

  • its radioactive

  • how radioactive like breif exposure = death or prolonged esposure = death but either way u got to admit it would be fuckin awesome to see

  • Like, a radioactive half life of 22 minutes radioactive.

  • sodium and potassium are NOT radioactive

  • K-40, and Na-22 ARE radioactive

  • yeah, those are isotopes and not the main thing found so what you're saying is inaccurate

  • dapanzy

    i meant francium

  • i want to use C4 2 blow up the selfscan machines i work on. lol. the myth is that they work

  • lol

  • heh - 5:20 when in doubt...

  • When in doubt.... C4! That's Jamie for you. GO JAMIE!!!

  • They should've tried to use Francium...lol

  • lol that just might do it

  • or cesium.

  • what about Rubidium and Caesium, Id love to see those tests

  • Comment removed

  • Episode 100:D

  • Well you couldunt do that it doesent mean Macgyver couldnt. You need Macgyver skills!!!

  • I blew up 4 toilets at my scool just wrapping it in toilet paper and flushing So i TRY AGAIN!!

  • lmao haha how big was the explosion

  • noooo! mythbusters you can't do this to macgyver!

  • Comment removed

  • man even brainiac got hold of the other alkali metals... wth mythbusters?

  • hmmm cesium might have worked but c4 is more fun

  • when in doubt...C4

    lol

  • You'd do quite well with rubidium - see Brainiac's Alkali Metals show for that.

  • Brainiac its fake

  • Unreinforced and ungrouted CMU cantilevered off the foundation (no perpendicular shear wall, no diaphram). This has no lateral resistance but friction and whaterver they put against the wall. A real CMU wall designed even for 90mph would have been much much harder to destroy. How much C4 to destroy an actual wall in an actual building?

  • LOL I love how in MythBusters if the myth fails, they still proceed to blow up/destroy/wreck/annihilate whatever needs to be blown up/destroyed/wrecked/annihilated. That way you never leave disappointed.

  • They should have just destroyed the wall with cesium... yeah it's pretty expensive but it's better than just taking C4 to it : )

  • i think they should have kept trying the bottle, except use francium instead of weak ass sodium :DDDDDD

  • The problem is, francium is damn near impossible to actually collect. Only a handful of francium (just several grams) exists on the Earth at any given time, and the element is extremely reactive and unstable which means it doesn't exist for too long (the longest half-life for a francium isotope is like 4 minutes).

  • i know, but you can always hope... i mean in their explodng pen myth they got their hands on classified level explosives (and in a video i once saw, they dropped a super small amount in a glass of water - no glass remained after that ;D )
