since the "Brigadier" (1951) Beretta is the best choice for military use. Glock is a superb weapon for civilians but I prefer a gun with external hammer. I used a Glock with its special plastic case on my hip but... I was worried all the time I was on the shooting range LOL. for self defense maybe a .357 revolver, like the S&W 627 for example. it's always ready and not dangerous

I own all 3 the colt 1911 combat elite the Glock model 22 in 40 cal and the beretta 92fs in 9mm. They all have there good points the colt is my choice just because of its history and solid build. Number 2 is beretta it is a solid pistol except the guide rod is plastic.

None, I'd go for a 9mm FN HiPower :D But since HiPowers sort of derived from Colt 1911s (same designer), I guess that'd be my choice. However, it largely depends. I compete in practical shooting and there a single-row .45 ACP would just hinder me, so I'd rather go for some high capacity 9mm, but I dislike Glocks, don't like to shoot em at all. Never used a Beretta, but I generally speaking prefer metal framed pistols, so I guess I might go for that if I have to choose from these three :D

Lets say so: I love both guns on the same level but after i saw that someone buried his glock for over 2 years, dug it out, cleaned it a bit with water, did not even put oil in it, and he and his buddies shot 500 rounds with that rustet glock, without jamming. that realy impressed me.

Glock hands down, it's the most reliable of the three, the easiest to clean, and comes in more than one version with multiple calibers. Although the 1911 is one of my favorite handguns of all time, I would take a Glock over it solely for the reliability. Anyone that's ever used a Glock before knows what I'm talking about.

@01misheel This is very true, because revolvers have pretty much no moving parts. But they also don't carry the same rate of fire and number of rounds as a semi-auto. I've got a .357 magnum and I was just shooting it yesterday, its amazing haha.

Colt was replaced 30 years ago by Beretta for U.S. military and special forces use. Colts are nice, but prone to reliability, accuracy, and ammo feeding problems. Berettas will eat any kind of ammo and it's not unheard of for a Beretta 92 to have over 80,000 documented rounds and still be going strong. I've got nearly 10,000 rounds through my Berettas and have never had a FTF, jam, or malfunction of any kind.

For military or self defence use in 9mm caliber, glock wins hands down. 1911 models of various brands are in my experience extremely unreliable in other calibers than .45 compared to glock and beretta. The beretta 92 is a good gun especially in high $ custom models for target shooting, but I feel they are less reliable than the glock and I don't like the open slide. A glock will never misfire or jam(100k+ shots possible). Its easy to clean and maintain and fast and accurate to shoot.

The open slide of the beretta is not, in my opinion, a good idea for a military sidearm, but it does nonetheless perform quite well. In two years of miltary service (with the glock as a sidearm) and 10+ years on the firing range I can't remember a jam or misfire with the glock. (But plenty with expensive 1911 models and some with berettas).

I saw a Beretta at a gunstore that was gold, silver, and plated with diamonds. It was 20,000 $. Glocks, they are fairly reliable, but they are innaccurate and the grib is sorta annoying. Colts are my favorite though, they are powerful and almost never jam. And they look cool.
