Being alone and feeling alone (although different things) can have positive results as you have shown. You obviously have creative abilities and need to pursue them. I think this can be done with or without social anxieties/panic/phobias as I have done so myself. I used to tell myself I didn't have to do anything I didn't want to, which gave me permission to leave a situation if I was not happy, but I also told tutors, who were very understanding. That gave me power and confidence.
just realize that nothing you do really matters, it sounds like a depressing thought at first but then you realize you can do anything, anything at all and it really doesn't matter all that much. I think in a weird way that's quite a comforting thought
damm it ! i just realized i havee thiss prb ..oh my god u saved me ! i was lyk why why why em behaving so strange damn is this really the answer :s :o
You guys are lucky, you live in the West , speak English and it's 21st century outside! You have tools to cope with these things. When I was a kid/teenager I lived in the USSSR where nobody had ever heard such words as 'social anxiety', I just thought that I was a stupid ugly bad boy. Today, people will understand you. and those who don't scr*w them! Great video, BTW!
I have SAD. I really do not think that we can change our personality as we are introverts by nature. I approach the outside world as an actress pretending to like being in the company of people. I have come to terms that I am most happy when I am alone. There are ways that I cope being in public, but in reality I will never be at ease around most people.
ive had SAD since i was in yr3 and im now going into year11..its nearly impossible to be happy and i cry everynight when i come home from school because it hurts so bad.. but i guess its better to know im not alone. if only they made a school for people with social anxiety, it would make it all easier
@someonesthoughts im 13.... sos i havent kissed any 1 and im not planing to any time soon... i say wait till your fully ready, thats what im gonna do, i think its fine and normal...........
Ive had sa for as long as I can remember, I hate it so much, Its so hard to make it through the days. And Its worse that no one understands. We have to keep fighting, cause the alternative Is not good at all.
Hey I really like your Social anxiety video on here. I just ordered a video camera because I too suffer from a couple forms of anxiety, and I want to be my old self again, so I figure i'll post my journey on youtube in a few days when i start it, so not only can I show myself i can change, but I want to give hope to everyone else out there so I won't give up. I hope when I do that you will follow it, because I know how you feel and we all could use a helping hand sometimes :)
Yea i've had Social phobia over half my life i barely remember not having it but i would give anything to have this weight lifted off my shoulders before it destroys my life I am 23 years old and don't have a job I dropped out of college because of this disorder.
I can relate here,I have a social anxiety disorder, panic disorder and of course depression and a little ptsd thrown in.On meds but nothing has changed and agoraphobia has a tight rein on me.
this sucks i hear so many story/comments about older people saying they had it for more then 5 years... I just started to get my SAD when i was 13 and now im 14 and i dont want to have it anymore I dont want to be one of those ppl thats gunna have it for 5 or more years!! OMFG I HATE SAD!!!!!!!!!!! D:<
It's not just girls that feel alone.... I have been married 19 years and yet I sit here in my little room feeling alone. I hate to leave my little room knowing that there is nothing but mean and evil outside. Watch the news and you can see that I am not just paranoid, it's reality. Life sucks, then you sit here and wait to die !
SAD makes me feel so lonely but yet i still cling onto the hope that i have :) maybe next year my schoolyear will be get better? maybe I will make more friends? I hope for the best
Check out Avoidment Personality Disorder. It seems like the same thing as SAD. I ran across it today and grazed the surface but I am too apathetic for more research at the moment.
I cryed I think my son might have SAD. Thanks 4 the video I would like to link it 2 my school project but i dont now how on power point. God bless u always.
Going out in public is dreadful. Getting together at family events is awful. Being alone can be exhuasting because my mind makes up negative outcomes to imaginary situations that keep on spreading out like a family tree does. One negative thought makes two bad thoughts that make four bad outcomes and on and on and on. Eventually I catch myself and stop but it usually begins again sooner or later. Very distorted thinking and bad habit.solidified.
Today I got told I had SAD. It's scary, and you truley feel alone all the time. Sometime.. You get to the point of have two people. One dying.. And one telling you that the people who judge you. Are right.
yeah I am also sick of being alone and I pity myself alot too, SAD is a horrible afflction yet it is the 3rd most common mental disorder. Try to converse with others with this affliction, it is usually easier to talk to these individuals as they feel the same as you. remember "fear can hold you prisoner, but hope can set you free" (I ripped that from Shawshank Redemption, I know, but I feel that will work here).Hope the best for you.
It's viscious because sometimes you have to get away from the crowd & do some breathing & calming but then when you r in a room of ppl it gets tiring feeling "beside yourself". But to have one loving person go through life w/ u would be such a blessing. That would have to be one special person! Sent from God. It probably is God.
Try using reason to overcome the anxiety. I know that most of my fears are pretty irrational. It's just a matter of being mindful of that. I've had some success doing that, but also a lot of failure. You can 'overthink' yourself. hehe..
This video risks causing the glamorization of social anxiety disorder. Imagine a bizarro world in which high school kids emulate the rock stars they saw on tv who sing about their 'inner pain' during social situations.
Easy, stop listening to depressing PMS music and buy a few ACDC cd's. Stop watching movies in black and white. Stop making video in black and white. Don't even look at black and white photos. After which, grow a pair of nuts and go to a strip club or something. It worked for me.
key to all is the God and love, the time will come how strong you really are to fighting yourself...strongest thing in this earth is your mind and your fighting it now...i cant help you nobody can exept you yourself
@youniscou3 I remember all times and moments (unbelievable much) when I felt 'blocked' of that sick and so exhausting shyness and less confidence. Seeing so many opportunities fading away because of the same reasons. Years by years of analysing yourself as a person you realise that without any help this stuff becomes like an "ilness". So many times you needed so NOT MUCH: to say your word, opinion, to show a piece of your bravery. Do something a bit more "crazy" to a one little "grey mouse"
@youniscou3 ..which is habituated to stay quiet, invisible, in the dark where nobody can see you, in "safety" of everything what Might happen IF You Would say a word, an opinion. If you would show your bravery, which you Do have. When you do it, you realise how helpful it can be. Gee, I know I'm such a coward, but I also know that I can be even more brave if I really need it and sometimes when I want. It's hard to "rape" yourself especially when you're a deep introvert wishing of being opposite.
@youniscou3 Nowadays, this communicative world is very handy to a extrovert which are talkative and has a natural bravery (they don't usually even think about it). It's much harder to people who has Such problems as huge shyness, less confidence, less love and belief in themselves or fear of other opinion (this is just sick, because no matter in how many ways I tried to fight with it, I still have a "dependence" of it..=) )
@youniscou3 It's just, one 'lucky' person will have problems (because it's natural, we all have in one way or another) but never had and never will have such problems as other person, which will call himself 'lucky' just when he fight his biggest inner problems and fears. When he will break all the inner walls. This is the way people are - different. No matter what are you going to do: search for some kind of help - do something serious or do nothing, the most important thing is to never forget
@youniscou3 ...your bright side, the smallest joy of this world, because you live here once. If you're not ready to step some kind of step, to make some kind of decision or do something yet - take a deep breath and with a smile and do something easier but not less helpful. Because everybody has fallen in their deepest sorrow and sadness hole at least once - is it because of a personal tragedy, loss or big inner problems - never forget to close your eyes.
@youniscou3 ..because you must see a bright (brighter than you think =) ) and blue sky in front of you, full of absolutely possible hope and big things, what you Will do after standing and jumping from that darkness. I don't know none of you, but telling the truth, I believe in all of you guys.
@SadlyCheerful you can't forget about people who have got ADHD it may be nice to engage be able to approach someone and be able to chat away to them but there are times when someone with ADHD wishes they could just stop and chillax for 5 mins.
I'm appreciative for any thing social anxiety related. but this video did not sync with me at all. no insight or knowledge just like a phoney superficial mtv commercial.
Best of luck feeling better in this world. but since it was posted in 2008 you might be feeling better. Living with Social & Anxiety disorders suck, I feel for you.
I feel for just about everyone who has commented. You are never alone, after all, we have SAD don't we? It really hurts to think back on my past 6 years of high school wasted. I just hope I can be free to get on with my life.
ohh sweetie... I have SAD... you are not alone, never... great job on the video, you captured the sadness, lonliness, and emptiness of SAD. When things hit rock bottom, then can only get better. remeber there is help and U R NOT ALONE!!!!! good luck and God Bless. If you need anything private message me, I'll be happy to help :)
i feel like this is just a bunch of pictures of people posing. i dont see the social anxiety in this at all. I have social anxiety disorder, but im not an "outcast." Maybe you are an outcast because you are just weird.
And maybe you just like to pretend to have a disorder. Your comment urks me because you probably have no idea what its really like for people with SA.
excuse me, you bitch. i DO have social anxiety disorder. why the fuck would anyone pretend to have that. so dont get all "urked" because you think you are all high and mighty with your disorder that other people also have. i have a fucking idea and how dare you day any different. NOT EVERYONE WITH SOCIAL ANXIETY IS AN OUTCAST.
I actually know that not everyone with SA is an outcast. My problem is with you calling QuietAngel123 weird. She probably feels bad enough without someone making her feel worse. I can't see someone saying something like that to someone with SA, if they know how it feels. You judged her based off her video, just because you feel the vid was of "people posing" doesn't mean she doesn't have it.
im not judging her based on her video....i was just trying to make the point that not everyone with social anxiety disorder is a social outcast, so it's not really fair to blame it all on that. and so what if she is weird. weird can be good.
Ive suffered from social anxiety disorder and depression in life and i have given up. Im very alone, i dont want to even talk to anyone about how i feel or about my life coz they'll just think im a freak. Im very alone but i accept that thats the way my life is going to be.
heh..i was diagnosed with this its because ive submitted my fyp late n my supervisor asked me to see a caunselor which in turn asked me 2 see a psychiatrist and walla i have sad
@Quietangel123 me too i still suffer with this problem and im 17 and i dont take treatement,,, but i ve jst realize that im not alone.. Cuz i got God with me i dont know ur beliefs or religion.. but God loves the outcausts more than an average person.. and well during my anxiety attacks i try to Pray during them.. and it kinda helps.. jhope my comment helped u.
@Shannon9908 well I am, sure many others may have it, but I am alone, and I may not want to be but it is my sad and pathetic fate for the future, just the sad quiet guy alone with no girlfriend or friends whatsoever:( I have given up hope.
Just a quick note to say you aren't alone, i've realised that I've been suffering with this since childhood, for about 15 years my doctor and I thought I had ME (CFS), but I'm beginning to realise that it is just the physical reaction to all the anxiety. I guess I'm in the wrong job really! You will be FINE I'm sure, it starts with identifying the problem and replacing those negatives with positives... Easy to say I know. Take care
some old dude here to say that i grew up the same and used comic relief to try and break into the circle; it was not the answer; finally learned to reach out to others and to God in my own way and then make good use of my alone time; not in pleasurable pursuits but in productive and positive ways. I love you man!
ManOverboard44, that comment is disgusting. Why are you even watching the video? You clearly have no idea what this disorder is and how it affects people. Quietangel, I wish you all the best in trying to overcome SA. I know how awful it is. Gorgeous song and vid, btw.
wow, this is exactly something i've wanted to go and make if i couldn't find it on youtube, i will make it annyway, but this video is awesome, on a different note, i feel exactly like that, apart from the fact that I can't even express the way i feel because the people i call friends research me too much and laugh at me if i've done something stupid again...
i lived all my life till now im fighting the good fight im not so alone anymore i look back and all them years i felt that way i learned alot instead of saying life i was observing it and learning becuase i did have A D D .....
No, it is nothing like that. They are both real disorders/illnesses, unlike your idea about AIDS, and they happen to have the same initials, so therefore there is no reason why they can't have the same initials.
If you don't understand this, I'm not going to waste my time on you. But you've made your point, so you can stop commenting. You're only making yourself look bad by repeating this.
if you talk to a doctor and tell him/her that you have SAD, they will be like "oh, seasonal affective disorder. mmhmm" and you will be like "what? no...social anxiety disorder" and the doctor will smack your face. I'm trying to help you, you should be thanking me.
@Xt0tallyXr0cknX Social anxiety is one of the most debilitating disorders it destroys your life and social connections are non existant. It can if serious enough keep you from getting a job or if you get the job not being able to hold it down. You obviously have no idea of the burden people with this disorder bare it is indescribable to people who don't have it. You wouldn't even have the aspects to see from that point of view.
@3nderoX Actually I have been unable to get jobs and I've had to give up jobs because of my social anxiety. I know that it is serious. I just disagree with this video. I have social anxiety but I have social connections and I have a life despite the great anxiety I feel when I walk into a party and get diarrhea. So you can stfu and come back to me when you shit your pants in front of a crowd. It still doesnt make me a social outcast.
do i have SAD? i am a freshman in a fairly small school and ever since my dad died last year i just stopped talking to my girlfriend and friends and she eventually broke up with me. i play football for my school and i am pretty good but i just go to the practices and never really mess around and have fun like everyone else eventhough i like football. ever since i started 9th grade i have wanted a girlfriend and alot of girls talk to me but i just answer with one wordquestions andi alwaysregretit

Has anyone suggested the scientific approach? A Neurofeedback specialist can analyze the problem by looking at the brain activity. If you have severe activity causing your thoughts to race this will cause severe anxiety. Neurofeedback can unlock the brain. My son has had 26 sessions and is feeling extremely better.

@youniscou3 Nowadays, this communicative world is very handy to a extrovert which are talkative and has a natural bravery (they don't usually even think about it). It's much harder to people who has Such problems as huge shyness, less confidence, less love and belief in themselves or fear of other opinion (this is just sick, because no matter in how many ways I tried to fight with it, I still have a "dependence" of it..=) )
SadlyCheerful 9 months ago
@youniscou3 It's just, one 'lucky' person will have problems (because it's natural, we all have in one way or another) but never had and never will have such problems as other person, which will call himself 'lucky' just when he fight his biggest inner problems and fears. When he will break all the inner walls. This is the way people are - different. No matter what are you going to do: search for some kind of help - do something serious or do nothing, the most important thing is to never forget
SadlyCheerful 9 months ago
@youniscou3 ...your bright side, the smallest joy of this world, because you live here once. If you're not ready to step some kind of step, to make some kind of decision or do something yet - take a deep breath and with a smile and do something easier but not less helpful. Because everybody has fallen in their deepest sorrow and sadness hole at least once - is it because of a personal tragedy, loss or big inner problems - never forget to close your eyes.
SadlyCheerful 9 months ago
@youniscou3 ..because you must see a bright (brighter than you think =) ) and blue sky in front of you, full of absolutely possible hope and big things, what you Will do after standing and jumping from that darkness. I don't know none of you, but telling the truth, I believe in all of you guys.

@SadlyCheerful you can't forget about people who have got ADHD it may be nice to engage be able to approach someone and be able to chat away to them but there are times when someone with ADHD wishes they could just stop and chillax for 5 mins.

I'm appreciative for any thing social anxiety related. but this video did not sync with me at all. no insight or knowledge just like a phoney superficial mtv commercial.
have fun wasting your life making crap
scout6686 2 years ago
@scout6686 Did she promise to explain things? No. You may have wanted some of that, but she didn't lead you in by saying she would give it.
So go ahead and waste your life hurting other people for nothing.

Best of luck feeling better in this world. but since it was posted in 2008 you might be feeling better. Living with Social & Anxiety disorders suck, I feel for you.

does this disorder affect only females?
Flakkks 2 years ago
It affects males and females just as much.
I feel for just about everyone who has commented. You are never alone, after all, we have SAD don't we? It really hurts to think back on my past 6 years of high school wasted. I just hope I can be free to get on with my life.

i feel like this is just a bunch of pictures of people posing. i dont see the social anxiety in this at all. I have social anxiety disorder, but im not an "outcast." Maybe you are an outcast because you are just weird.
Xt0tallyXr0cknX 2 years ago
And maybe you just like to pretend to have a disorder. Your comment urks me because you probably have no idea what its really like for people with SA.
VampLavni 2 years ago
excuse me, you bitch. i DO have social anxiety disorder. why the fuck would anyone pretend to have that. so dont get all "urked" because you think you are all high and mighty with your disorder that other people also have. i have a fucking idea and how dare you day any different. NOT EVERYONE WITH SOCIAL ANXIETY IS AN OUTCAST.
Xt0tallyXr0cknX 2 years ago
I actually know that not everyone with SA is an outcast. My problem is with you calling QuietAngel123 weird. She probably feels bad enough without someone making her feel worse. I can't see someone saying something like that to someone with SA, if they know how it feels. You judged her based off her video, just because you feel the vid was of "people posing" doesn't mean she doesn't have it.
VampLavni 2 years ago
im not judging her based on her video....i was just trying to make the point that not everyone with social anxiety disorder is a social outcast, so it's not really fair to blame it all on that. and so what if she is weird. weird can be good.
Xt0tallyXr0cknX 2 years ago
@Xt0tallyXr0cknX It isn't social anxiety if your not a social outcast.
3nderoX 1 year ago
@3nderoX absolutely FALSE. You can still have major anxieties and have friends and go out and whatnot.

Take care
Boccherini64 2 years ago
some old dude here to say that i grew up the same and used comic relief to try and break into the circle; it was not the answer; finally learned to reach out to others and to God in my own way and then make good use of my alone time; not in pleasurable pursuits but in productive and positive ways. I love you man!

ManOverboard44, that comment is disgusting. Why are you even watching the video? You clearly have no idea what this disorder is and how it affects people. Quietangel, I wish you all the best in trying to overcome SA. I know how awful it is. Gorgeous song and vid, btw.
mauerbluemchen0 3 years ago 17
wow, this is exactly something i've wanted to go and make if i couldn't find it on youtube, i will make it annyway, but this video is awesome, on a different note, i feel exactly like that, apart from the fact that I can't even express the way i feel because the people i call friends research me too much and laugh at me if i've done something stupid again...

i lived all my life till now im fighting the good fight im not so alone anymore i look back and all them years i felt that way i learned alot instead of saying life i was observing it and learning becuase i did have A D D .....

SAD = seasonal affective disorder.
Xt0tallyXr0cknX 2 years ago
@Xt0tallyXr0cknX Never heard of an acronym meaning two different things?!
Elemarth 2 years ago
that's like saying "I have AIDS" but saying AIDS stands for "All I Do is Shit". you dont do that.
Xt0tallyXr0cknX 2 years ago
No, it is nothing like that. They are both real disorders/illnesses, unlike your idea about AIDS, and they happen to have the same initials, so therefore there is no reason why they can't have the same initials.
If you don't understand this, I'm not going to waste my time on you. But you've made your point, so you can stop commenting. You're only making yourself look bad by repeating this.

YOU'RE IRRELEVANT
if you talk to a doctor and tell him/her that you have SAD, they will be like "oh, seasonal affective disorder. mmhmm" and you will be like "what? no...social anxiety disorder" and the doctor will smack your face. I'm trying to help you, you should be thanking me.
Xt0tallyXr0cknX 2 years ago
@Xt0tallyXr0cknX Social anxiety is one of the most debilitating disorders it destroys your life and social connections are non existant. It can if serious enough keep you from getting a job or if you get the job not being able to hold it down. You obviously have no idea of the burden people with this disorder bare it is indescribable to people who don't have it. You wouldn't even have the aspects to see from that point of view.
3nderoX 1 year ago
@3nderoX Actually I have been unable to get jobs and I've had to give up jobs because of my social anxiety. I know that it is serious. I just disagree with this video. I have social anxiety but I have social connections and I have a life despite the great anxiety I feel when I walk into a party and get diarrhea. So you can stfu and come back to me when you shit your pants in front of a crowd. It still doesnt make me a social outcast.
