  • Excellent!!

  • sounds great man. thats the exact style im trying to accomplish. well done

  • man just chill.... still great though.

  • Dude, this was really awesome !!!

    You rock !!!

  • People don't have the right to judge this guy! if its to "hectic" for you? fuck off!

  • so this is very close to the playing style you feel comfortable with?

  • yeeeeeah what pickup is that?

  • What pickup have you put in the bridge position

  • man your an amazing soloist but take a chill pill let the song take its structure dont take control your driving too much let your solo shape around the music dont try to have the music shape around your solo, build up to an intense time then drop down low

  • honestly, its completely evident that your an excellent guitar player but you did way too much here. Slow it down a bit so you get that chill feel... don't take away the amazing feel of this song

  • Too Yoked for his own GOOD

  • too much going on at once

  • dude how long have u been playing, UR FRICKIN AMAZING!

  • mayer himself would be proud..

    good job

    nice tone

    nice strat...keep it up

  • good playing man!

  • Comment removed

  • Man why do you only have 3 uploads? You're one of the greatest guitar talents i've seen on youtube!

  • fyuckin awesome guitar tone,are u using a klein s5 pickup?

  • That's some good guitar playing...but it's too hectic...slow it down. Sometimes it's not about what you play but what you don't play...give it some thought.

  • PLEASE MAKE MORE VIDEOS!

  • Great playing! Nice tone!

  • you've got a special tone going on, what amp are you using ?

  • that's sick, your tone is great!

  • i like this... alot

  • sick

  • so inspiring

  • i wish my lazy afternoons with my strat sounded this good.

  • THAT WAS DAAAAAAAAAMN NICE!

  • you are amazing.

  • Good use of the pinky... haha just kidding, nice job man

  • good shit dude..what scale do you solo in for the chorus chords? is it still the B pentatonic or something different?

  • 17 people are idiots

  • Yeah bro. A little busy even for a jam.But some good stuff in there!

  • EarChocolate is clearly better at guitar than MAC616. If only 7 year olds put stickers on their guitars, then by that logic, EarChocolate has been playing guitar since he was 7. Because that's what it sounds like.

No emotion? That's the biggest pile of batshit I have ever smelled. It's a jam. Jams don't necessarily need structure like a well-thought solo. Nitpicking seems like a big display of sophistication and e-peen waving.

  • I think you are talented, It just has no feeling to it. Its a constant run on of a solo. No emotion. Reminds me of some one yelling at you constantly and not giving you a chance to talk. Weird I know, but its true. Play the same licks, just slow it down, throw some pauses and some bends, make it wine and sing to hold a note

    Still good though

  • That tone is phenomenal.

  • @MAC616 :D fuckyou

  • @MAC616 is Flea 7?

  • @MAC616 SRV did it :)

  • @MAC616 SRV did it :)

  • @MAC616 Is SRV one of those "retards" too?

  • @MAC616 John Mayer put stickers on his guitars

  • @MAC616 ur the idiot, its his guitar, and he plays it incredible, left me astonished, i dont see you playing like this, and anyway, if you dont like it just go, asshole !

  • That is crazy shit man - very nice!

Could you please tell me what ya gear setup is?

    Cheers!

  • i cant solo good and you gotta pull one of these hahaa

  • hammer on pull off hammer on pull off hammer on pull off hammer on pull off hammer on pull off hammer on pull off hammer on pull off hammer on pull off YAYYYYYYY

  • man this is insane!!! 5 stars

  • how do you get that type of sound on your guitar?

  • the easiest style of guitar in the world..

  • This is unearthly amazing man.

  • i would have to agree with the comments that say this was way too crowded.. however your licks are simply brilliant.. i havent come across a single guitarist on youtube that comes even close to playing something like this.. blues ftw!

i play a little JM.. am okay-ish with improvising but my stuff gets old pretty soon.. im totally gonna rip off some of your licks if you dont mind.. :P

  • @attu89 what? you arent looking hard enough.. he's a decent guitarists but there is nothing special about this style.. it's pretty repetitive and straight forward

  • Great licks man, the only constructive criticism I could give is take a breath; think of a solo like a speech. Before you make a statement, take a second to clear the air. It would really make your licks stand out ever more. Keep it up!

  • Kudos for your exceptional guitar skills. It truly is beautiful and euphoric. The instrument that touches your heart.

  • Solid bro. Very good!

  • ive been watching this video on and off for years now.. I STILL HATE YOU EARCHOCOLATE!!! <3

  • This was one of the very first videos I ever favorited on youtube before it got so big. Too bad you aren't able to put up any more of your videos lately otherwise people would be clawing over each to hear your stuff, including me! Lol

  • shredder

  • I always wonder what your day job is..... so so good!

  • how about some phrasing? great tone though!

  • Pretty uniqe style man! :D

  • great but you dont have to play all the time leave some space man!

    great player though!!!

  • waiting for another john mayer video.

  • tone tone tone tone tone wow i like

  • amazing stuff

  • whats the rig your playing thru?

  • what pickups do you use? sounds good though.

  • Nice tone and playing buddy!

    bless

  • it's good.... but SLOW DOWN! you're trying to fill every beat with notes! take it easy man, remember some phrasing to make it sounds more soulful... otherwise great stuff :)

  • Great tone and licks! Would love to hear some singin with it!

  • I can't get over how smooth that tone is. Unbelievable.

  • i thoroughly enjoyed your guitar playing. does anyone know where i can learn to play the guitar.

  • youtube. lol, that's how im learning. check out marty scwartz!!!

  • Is that an american standard strat?

  • its a '94 japstrat, got it that year way back then.man i was hyped:)

  • @EarChocolate nice man

  • @EarChocolate Wait a jap standard strat?

  • yeah thats the one

  • Damn man that is awesome, How do u solo so good like that? lol seriously like how do you make all those scales together to create a solo like that.

  • Time, Feel, and practice. I admit, it was really nice.

  • @Levidamanguitar Yesss

  • that sounds great.

  • Some people have said that your playing is way too busy but I loved every single note of it! More please!

  • Seriously...way too busy.

  • suprisingly there arent too many covers of city love on utube! =( nice licks.. def worth the 5 stars! =D

  • dude great feeling in your fingers my friend.

Ive been listening to this kid Riley Stockwell he seems to have some great shit and the other guys that play with him are great musicians as well.

  • wHAT kind of pickups and gear are u usin? Great sound and feel!

  • Comment removed

  • You just melted my face. This proves that there are some amazingly talented guitar players that have not been "found". Man u can play

  • very good :D:D

  • thats good stuff

  • Wow!! Very nice Playing!! Hope to see more Vids from you!!

  • Awesome dude, very fuckin nice...!

  • not bad but you defintley need to slow down and release.

  • dynamic.

  • the true beauty of Jazz and music in general is making your own....improv is awsome

  • 1:21-1:32

    So sexy

  • man this is ~ awesome ~ :)

  • gnarly dude!

  • whoahhohoho, rock on brotha

  • I agree you should definitely slow down. Give us time to digest your awesome licks cause there's just too much going in such quick periods of time. What makes a great solo is often tension and release and the anticipation of what's gonna come next, but if it's just notes, notes, notes it all breezes right by us and it's easy to get bored. Otherwise you rock man.

  • but the point of an improv is that there is no plan

  • @thedrumbum but i do agree with that it was too busy he should have realized that and have been a little more melodic and put some gaps in there

  • @thedrumbum Totally right, he did perfect

  • @thedrumbum yeah...so this was an improv..

  • Great tone. Great Playing. Great guitar. Great song. What else can i say? Nice job man.

  • Comment removed

  • @JoeLovetteMusic bullshit,,,one thing is making a cover which should be done as you describe, but the video title says it, it is an "improv/jam" he is just using the music to create his whole idea, appart from the original song, that's why I think this is great..

  • @JoeLovetteMusic its an improv you idiot, to much? to much to take in? apperantly you must be slow

  • tone is orgasmic. great jamming man!

  • wow. so smooth, great work

  • your fender rocks and you too

  • Oh the magic you can do when you learn scales.

  • DUDE ARE YOU STILL ALIVE ????????????

  • @goldenboi24k hell yeah:) just busy as hell

  • I love john mayer and allways thought that any add ons to his songs would suck! But this just proves me wrong! Amazing man, simply amazing!

  • Seriously?

  • tabs! tabs! we want tabs!

  • it would be pretty hard for him to do that I would think...the video is like 3 years old and he was improvising... if you watch his patterns and where abouts on the neck he is playing you can improvise the same way

  • shut up. You tab it.

  • Just use your ears and take it one lick at a time, if you persevere, you can figure it out!

    Great tone and playing dude!!

  • youz crazy

  • Its funny, your jamming intensively the whole whole through, and then it gets to the solo and you tone down and follow John Mayer's phrasing.

    Awesome jamming mate.

  • dude thats f***ing craaazy

  • the tone!!

  • I would switch between pickup switch positions 1 and 2 for certain parts, but its a sick jam. Also, what amp/effects (overdrive), if any?

  • You're really great! nice tone. one thing: give the song some time to play itself. you're constantly playing, take some breaks! its really good though

  • yea there is to much soloing it would sound better if you just backed him up in spots but man sounds GREAT!!!!

  • would sound better? that was sick. He's jamming not trying to cut a track. There is no reason for him to hold back.

  • how long have been playing guitar? and how did you become so good at jamming songs?

  • fair play man, you are sick!

  • Its also possible that he is using a fender 57 Reissue HotRod edition. Although he does have some heavy wear for a guitar that is not very old. They introduced them in the past 2 years. But it does have the thin skin finish so it might be possible

  • thats a 94 japstrat with a seymour duncan pickup at the bridge, plus ive got a dead middle pickup.peace

  • seemed overpowering - but excellent work. A toned down version would work nicely with this song. But great job anyway, I know I can't play like that.

    :)

  • You should tab this out man, not just because people wanna learn it but because it is a fine specimen of guitar work, this and your other vids have some serious creativity and finger work. That wasn't to much guitar, you played fluidly throughout the song it really was chocolate for my ears.

  • 0:52 - 0:57, made on it's own: the video more than watchable. Congrats! You've impressed me :)

  • He don't answer. Asshole.

  • Cool tone...what pickups do you use?

  • i think they're all original apart from the bridge pickup which i presume is a hot gold lace sensor pickup.

  • Super cool ! Nice tone and technique !

  • yeah, van de rohe wassnt right, less definatly isnt more, just enouph is more. . . i think milton glaser might have said that? anyways. . . good playing chap!

  • dudes good as hell, maybe too much guitar in some parts but good nonetheless

  • nice sound! Really clear! and the fact that you were just hanging around and decided to play this is the best part.

  • Screw the haters. Less IS more in a recording or live performance...but for jamming in your room -- it doesn't get much better than getting into groove. Nicely done!

  • Which amp are you using? Very good tone.

  • Comment removed

  • what pedals are using to get that sound?

  • Dude, I love this!!!

  • Very nice job man, but its sometimes too much, especially from 2:32 to 3:03. That time of the song is more calm and soothing and the jam is way too much for the feeling of the song. Try using some patience.. it'll make the listener feel a nice change, making the listener more attentive to a change and not get bored of the same thing over and over. Very good technique, it takes a lot of hard work and time to get where your at and I applaud you.

  • he's just jamming...

  • Man! the influence from john mayer is so clear!

    good job, sweet jam

  • very good jam, man.

  • dude ur good.

  • nice sound from ur guitar

  • holy crap, this is the first comment ive left on youtube and i am a HUGE john mayer fan and i wouldnt normally say this but i think you may be better than him id like to see you jam out to his song covered in rain, the long 10 min version if you do please notify me!

  • not quite. hes really great tho. not as good as mayer, i heard a lot of repeated licks, and its just string rakes and pull offs. still really good.

  • matthewcharlesmayer is a douche.

  • bit over the top and repetitive. solid technique though.

  • I agree.

Even John Mayer has agreed that often less is more when it comes to music, and soloing in particular. John talks about this somewhere in his interviews at Abbey Road Studios.

This guy is a good player, who obviously knows his way around the fretboard but needs to think a little more - easily fixed.

  • he is just jamming this isn't like someone like trying to replace John Mayer's soloing on the tune.... this kid rocks he has a great knowledge of the fretboard and he is just jamming not trying for a technical solo

  • Excellent command of the fretboard — work on telling a story with your guitar now.

  • yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!~~~

  • WHY AREN'T YOU MAKING MORE VIDS?!!

  • nice name

and you are watching this video to prove irony exists?

  • the "hate" grew out of jealously =)

  • woa

  • love the picking man

  • bloody hell, talk about being big headed. you don't really hold back on the compliments about yourself, do you ?

  • great version of it.

  • Flawless! You are the man, straight from the soul, just how i like to hear it.

  • Did you improvise this yourself? If so I am extremely impressed.

  • Fuck yea, I love doing shit like that, just put on a JM song, and try to make a great jam for it. I am 29 now (birthday is January 6, and I will be the big 30)But anyway, I have been playing since I was 7, and that is 23 years, so I really enjoy watching people do stuff like this.

  • So how did you learn how to do all this amazing stuff? I'd love to know what you did to learn such techniques. PS: make some more vids!

  • WOAHHH!!!!! wow...YOU ARE AMAZING

  • To say that was amazing doesn't really give it justice.
