Without the holocaust, the burning of over 100,000 Dresden civilians would look extremely brutal, as well as the widespread rape of a large portion of German women by the soviets after WW2. The holocaust, mostly fictional, is only propped by putting dissidents in jail or fining them to keep the story from unraveling.

This was all unverified at the time and has never been verified. I would have to disagree that the Holocaust was used the justify the WWII. After the fact a great deal was made out of the german camp system. However prior to and during the war the allies did not attempt to use anything we would reconize as the "holocaust" in propaganda.  Nor did they need to make excuses for wiping out cities. That information was just censured. For all ther american public new those B17s were bombing army units and factories, not women and children.

Liberating France and occupying Germany/Austria must have had to do a. with Hitler swallowing one country after the other and imposing a regime of terror, b. with the Soviet Union fighting back from the East front. Had the Nazis won, the USA would have lost its allies in Europe. Had the Soviet Union won without US interference, it would have swallowed all Eastern & large parts of Central Europe. Both "too" powerful opponents

As for the good in WWII, the glorification. I must say that the overwhelming majority of now elderly people in Austria and Germany WERE grateful, immensely grateful, for the American liberation. They were hoping for the Americans to approach faster than the Russians. Indeed, with relatively crimes (compared with the Russians and their systematic rape and sometimes rape-murder of German/Austrian women) against civilians Americans were perceived for decades as the benevolent liberator/occupier.
