As a former college RB, I really appreciated Garrett Wolfe's effort in this game. I got a chance to see him play against top competition. No one expected NIU to beat OSU, but this game solidified Garrett Wolfe's position as being one of the best backs in 2006 as well as one of the best mid-major backs in NCAA history.
So yes, I did notice the score, but I was mesmerized by Wolfe's abilities as a small RB. He runs with great leverage with his shoulders square to the hole. Because of this, he always falls forward when tackled. He runs downfield with great patience and sets up his blocks well. He makes every cut precisely with no wasted motion, e.g., with no unnecessary jukes that telegraph his next move. He is a two cut back, i.e., he can make two cuts in a hole and maintain speed.
I too was impressed with a lot of his runs that day and happy to see him end up on the Bears roster. Just reacting to what I feel is excessive hype over his performance in that game. I watched that entire game that day. He was the entire NIU offense which says a lot since everyone knew where the ball was going... but he also barely cracked the red zone that day when it counted most.
He lit up, what is supposed to be the best college team in the country, for 285 yards. Yeah, I'm impressed. No doubt it was a team effort, but if you get that guy a running start and just a little bit of room, look out. He'll make you look like a fool.
Wow, not worth a response, since I suspect your reading skills couldn't get you into St. Mary's School for the Blind, but let me try. I am an NIU grad and Bears fan, but unlike you, I watched the game that day. Not that impressive. NIU got its azz kicked all day. Wolfe was very very good outside of the red zone, other than a single touchdown late in the 4th quarter. The red zone is that 20 yard patch of grass at each end, in case you're wondering. Also, he ran for 171 yds not 285 (to Tom).
yea he only put up more yards thn any rb the whole season and they arn't in the same conference. Whn Niu had Turner they were ranked 15th in the nation. Wolfe needs to go to a west coast team. He'd be alot better. his game is openspace.
hmmm it's funny how OSU suppose to be the best team in the nation, but they lose back to back in the National Campionship. They haven't been the shit sense Maurice Clarrett played.
Yeah, OSU won, but the video is about Garrett Wolfe, one of the best college RBs of all time. Could you imagine he played at OSU? Let me guess, OSU would not recruit him because of his size...oh well.
Wolfe had nearly 300 yards total yards against OSU, which is a much better team than NIU. We all expected OSU to win; however it was still the Garrett Wolfe show
i'm a chicago native and a big bears fan...but u cant compare this and nfl and say he should start. the nfl defense's are ALL smarter and faster than college defenses. he's got great talent but he can only run to the sidelines with open lanes, otherwise on closeline will take him down. still great in the open field though.
i guarantee that garrett wolfe will be a good back next year he just startingto ge a feel of the game now and hopefully the bears will go younger with the offensive line
he wont be that good he only runs a 4.39 and in the nfl thats not that fast for his size. There are tight ends and linebackers that are faster. Matt Jones and Vernon Davis are a lot bigger than wolfe and they are faster.
what you idiot 439 is fucking great wide recievers are fast usually faster than rbs look at any other running back in the nfl they are usually at 4.5 anything under 4.o is great cmon man and what lb mabe urlacher but he is a freak, its about elusiveness quickness being fast and being tough, and garrett wolfe has that
ur making it sound like its so easyvernon davis is a acception he is the fastest tightend i have ever seen and matt jones is really a wide reciever, but i think garrett is faster than matt jones
yeah man ur a fucking idiot 4.39 is fast as fuck there is no tightend that is faster than 4.39 and very doubtful any linebacker is either 4.3 is an elite class of athlete
he aint that good. i'm mostly a college football but i also watch every NFL game i can. this guy is gonna be aight, but no bush or laurence maroney or addai. AND DEFINATELY NOT BARRY SANDERS. the closest anyone will get to bein as good or better than him is bush hands down.
Lmao. Do you have any idea what you're talking about?
First off, Laurence Maroney and Addai aren't that good. Bush is good, but he hasn't proven to be great just yet.
The best part about your post is saying that no one is as good as Sanders, and that Bush is number 2 in line? Did you just start watching football last year? Walter Payton and Jim Brown own Barry Sanders, and there is at least 50 other all time running backs that are better than Reggie Bush is right now.
what the hell is this guy eating...super wheaties...with benson and wolfe defenses are gonna be worn the hell out by the end of the first half...W. nourse you were right!!!this dudes crazy fast!!!
What, 176 against the #1 team for 12 weeks straight w/ atleast a 6 YPC in that game too?? He's nice plus the nations didn't get a hint when this happened?
on the small side but this bears fan is intrigued... could be a great change of pace back. just hope his small frame caqn handle the pounding in the nfl...
No one expected NIU to actually win this game, but Wolfe's numbers were awesome. 289 total yards (171 receiving). Not bad for a MAC kid against Ohio State.
Have you seen the guy run? I've seen them both play. Again, I'm not trying to put Wolfe down, because I think he's a damn good running back. Don't be an idiot- he's fast, but he's not even the fastest running back in college football. Hell, he got caught from behind on all most of his big runs. I agree he's really good- and now with Peterson hurt, the Heisman is up for grabs (sort of). But Steve Slaton is not only better than Wolfe, he's also faster.
