Do the math; 5800 rpm divided by gear ratio times prop pitch(in inches) divided by 12=ft minute (88 feet per minute = 1mph) Divided by 88 = max mph prior to prop slip minus 10-15% prop slippage. So 200 hp merc 6000 rpm Gear ratio 2:1 3000 prop rpm 24 pitch = 72000 inches per minute Div by 12 = 6000 feet per second Div by 88 68 mph minus 15% slippage 58mph Believe it or not.
