It's not fair to say that Brit humor is better than the american kind--i'm a HUGE fan of Ricky Gervais's Office and Extras and the Australian Kath and Kim, but the Americans gave us Seinfeld, which is the best sitcom of all time. Canadians have kids in the hall, which is hilarious. Friends is terrible, on the other hand, and not an example of anything.
I agree - Americans get a bad rap but it is unfair. Blazing Saddles is my all time favourite comedy film & I currently love Chris Rock for example. I was just using Friends as an example of American comedy that doesn't need to be remade in the UK for people to get the jokes. I will try out Seinfield though, never watched that
It was probably remade because in the states you can't show hopping mechanical penis heads or boob aprons on TV. At least not on network, but it could run on cable and I think it would be well received. I think the US version is a bit funny, but I'm not loving the original. I 'get' it -just doesn't make me laugh. And friends was never funny. The best shows all got cancelled here because they have to appeal to the lowest common denomenator.

This would have to be one of my favourite scenes from the series. Comedy gold! "Britney Spears' sister = Asparagus Spears". You'd have to be a kid grown up in the 70s and 80s to really get the significance of it... the family barbecues where tinned beetroot, asparagus spears, cubed cheddar and cabanossi would always make an appearance. Such obscure references as these made the series a stunner!

Errrr... no it's not. It's not bad but... it suffers in comparison with the English version. I've seen a few funny things in the US version but please don't try to make out that it could possibly challenge the original. The US version is tame.

I don't get why this was re-made for the US - would Americans really not have got the humour? They remade the office for the US aswell. Why? I find it hard to believe that Americans can't appreciate them as they are! I'm a Brit and I don't have problems watching Friends or Kath & Kim etc. Americans don't seem THAT alien to us. Maybe someone will correct me.

no, actually in all their shows it would seem that the humour really has gone right over their heads. their style of humour IS very different to that of british and australian. im a New Zealander and i like friends and kath and kim and all that, but US comedy is just not as good as anyone elses. they have completely missed the point with kath and kim. plus theres no sharon!!

No Sharon?! I love her! With her carbunkles etc. All the characters are good & I find Kath really endearing, she always cares about everyone! My fave comedian of all time is American though - Woody Allen - but he's always said his films don't do well in US & he is more popular in Europe! xx

It's not fair to say that Brit humor is better than the american kind--i'm a HUGE fan of Ricky Gervais's Office and Extras and the Australian Kath and Kim, but the Americans gave us Seinfeld, which is the best sitcom of all time. Canadians have kids in the hall, which is hilarious. Friends is terrible, on the other hand, and not an example of anything.

I agree - Americans get a bad rap but it is unfair. Blazing Saddles is my all time favourite comedy film & I currently love Chris Rock for example. I was just using Friends as an example of American comedy that doesn't need to be remade in the UK for people to get the jokes. I will try out Seinfield though, never watched that

It was probably remade because in the states you can't show hopping mechanical penis heads or boob aprons on TV. At least not on network, but it could run on cable and I think it would be well received. I think the US version is a bit funny, but I'm not loving the original. I 'get' it -just doesn't make me laugh. And friends was never funny. The best shows all got cancelled here because they have to appeal to the lowest common denomenator.

I just thought friends was a little trite and predictable. To each his own i guess. I liked Arrested Development and Futurama. I like "Sunny in Philadelphia" too. I appreciate you not picking a fight like so many jerks online who use the internet as a shield so they can spout hatred for US, UK, Australia or whoever. They had to change the australian competely to get the american one cuz the american won't get the aus jokes and on the american one kim is to slim and kath is to young they are to normal it has to be as in strange people in a different world I love the aus version i guess it's and oz thing. He's right you know, Australia is very Americanised, I'd hazard to say 97% of what we watch is American television. Not to say American television is all bad, but it really messed up with Kath and Kim, there really is no substitute.

This would have to be one of my favourite scenes from the series. Comedy gold! "Britney Spears' sister = Asparagus Spears". You'd have to be a kid grown up in the 70s and 80s to really get the significance of it... the family barbecues where tinned beetroot, asparagus spears, cubed cheddar and cabanossi would always make an appearance. Such obscure references as these made the series a stunner!

Errrr... no it's not. It's not bad but... it suffers in comparison with the English version. I've seen a few funny things in the US version but please don't try to make out that it could possibly challenge the original. The US version is tame.

no matter how you change it...it won't be the same and its not...saw the previews....couldn't believe the mess they made of it!...KnK is typically austrlian humour...and very melbournish humour too haha....you just can't change it...sick of americans destroying things they can't come up with.
