brilliant track, yes it was 66 i can still remember it being released, they put 3 out here in the U K it was october/november " come round here ", " i'm ready for love", martha, and brenda holloway, "just look what you have done", i fell in love with all three, ha ha , dalkey ? you really are a mine of information, many, many thanks for posting this top tune from the miracles, listening to this has kinda been like going back there, regards dave
Smokey evokes his inner Levi Stubbs (this sounds as if it H-D-H initially intended it for the Four Tops). Great record, one of the Miracles' most underrated.
i am falling in love all over with smokey. when i was growing up all of the kids were listening to the temps, but i as in love with smokey. his voice has stood the test of time and he is still hot
MORE SONGS in the GRAMMY HALL of FAME than ANY OTHER MOTOWN GROUP !!! SMOKEY ROBINSON, BOBBY RODGERS, CLAUDETTE ROBINSON,RONNIE WHITE, PETE MOORE, and MARV TARPLIN...The Mighty MIRACLES !!!
This is just wonderful and like all good Motown so rich and full and the world is a far better place for it. I love my soul music and these great tracks just make me melt. Motown is just timeless,
"They dont write 'em like this anymore"...No Sir, they sure don't...
perfect in every way...tune, groove, lyrics. "..the days the days you sit alone by yourself, he's out foolin around with somebody else..." oh smokey! i was 16 and i adored you.
@williamg2552 Hmm I remember the song only from January 1967 and missed that in 1971, probably because we had lost the pirate stations by then. The English charts got less exposure here in The Netherlands after that happened. But anyway 13 is also way too low!
@williamg2552 Even though many Tamla-Motown groups were quite popular in Europe, especially Northern Europe, and in particular in the UK and the Netherlands (though the Supremes were popular EVERYWHERE), usually they charted lower in Europe than in the US, Canada, New Zealand, and East Asia...
This song came from H-D-H's "classic" period, when songs like "Bernadette", "Standing in the Shadows of Love", "Reach Out, I'll Be There", and "Love Is Here and Now You're Gone" were written...Another of my favorite Miracles performances!!
Come 'Round Here!!! From the sidewalks of South Central, Detroit, Chicago & New York! This is how we did it, summer evenings and the Miracles! Thanks Smokey and thank you Barry!!!!
@cassieann1000 I agree ! He has an entire section of his shows devoted to songs he (and the other Miracles) wrote for The Temptations. If I wanted to hear Temptations songs, I'd go to a Temptations show !! I'd rather hear songs he recorded with his OWN group....THE MIRACLES....like THIS SONG, or I LIKE IT LIKE THAT, JUST A MIRAGE, FORK IN THE ROAD,MICKEY'S MONKEY, I'LL TRY SOMETHING NEW, or WHAT'S SO GOOD ABOUT GOODBYE.
This song kills. It is hands down my favorite Smokey/Miracles song; I was 13 when it came out and it rearranged my molecules even then. A masterpiece. Thanks for sharing it.
This is by far my favorite Smokey Robinson and the Miracles song. It brings me back to the time I spent at the Wayside Inn in Glen Cove, New York in the late 1960`s. Those truly were the days.
thank you SO MUCH for sharing. This is one of my top 3 smokey songs. I hadn't heard it for so long, it dam near , well it did actually....give me goosebumps. thanks again
The MIRACLES already HAVE a girl in their group. Who needs Diana ? I would rather have heard SMOKEY and CLAUDETTE share the lead on this song , with Bobby Ron and Pete on backup vocals.
I love Smokey's vocal on this . . . I would have loved to have heard Diana and Smokey sing this together, how they caress a word, and at the end of it take that note to a "dip" . . . thanks for the share.
I second that! But this version is also cool, after all, it's these guys who Michael learnt off. Though when Michael does his magic on a song, no-one else can touch it!
I thought this song had a Holland/Dozier/Holland flavor to it that made it different from other Smokey classics! It would have been interesting if the Supremes did this with the Miracles. Excellent song!
I thought I made that point. HDH had a distinctive signature to their song-writing style and when I first heard it, I thought "This sounds like a Supremes song performed by MEN instead of WOMEN. Weird!" It grew on me over time of course but what can I say? I was a dumb kid who didn't know better! Now I do and I still think that this would have been an excellent Supremes/Miracles collaboration song ala the Supremes/Temptations "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" masterpiece.
I love his vocal style on this . . . I always wished Smokey and Diana had recorded a duet . . . a remake of Oh, Baby Baby would have kicked it to the curb!!
I got half my game from Smokey: the verbal rapability part.
Anytime I needed some good sh*t to talk, I would just think of some of this kind of sh*t that Smokey is spittin' on this record.
If I did the same thing with today's music I'd be telling women, "You better get wit' me and my blinged out material things or I'm go'n bust you upside the head."
Man! In the 'good old days' it was all about having 'Game'.
BEST Miracles song of all time!! Thanks!!!!

I remember this didn't become a hit in Europe.
And it was my very favourite song for so long!!
Unbelievable ...

@Talleyrandful Of course it was a hit in Europe. It was a Top 20 hit in England, but not until February 1971, when it peaked at number 13.
