  • amazing what really goes on in their heads

  • its like only upgrading one skill in a game :) kinda....

  • Comment removed

  • everyone who says these people are retards are just jealous that their own lives are lacking such brilliance. i feel sorry for anyone who i incapable of appreciating these works of art.

  • severally challenged is not what you should be calling them.

  • nice paganini variations! amazing stuff right here

  • most of the autistic children have a savant ability , in music, art , math and in calender , sorry Jerry it's not rare in autistic it's rare in normal , but the pure autistic has a savant.

  • @marymoro1981 sorry bud but ur a retard...pure autistic children are definitely not savants

  • @marymoro1981 Lol I see your comment is from a year ago but I wanted to point out that a savant is actually extremely rare. There are only around 50 living savants in the world. Autistic kids may display much talent in a skill, but not on the same level as a Savant.

  • @MultiSnooty oi you sick cunt dont you fuckin dare call that person a retard , how would you like it if I wooped a baseball bat around ya head . nd you would have to live with being beaten up by someone with autisim , and probly gain a mental disorder from it . its the sick cunts like you who put filthy shit in vaccines to give people like me autisim in the fucking first place !!!! show some respect and compasion for fuck sake .

  • Las Vegas? ...this is not a freak show!

    :(

  • Some of the greatest artists have performed in Las Vegas. Why? Because they are exceptional. A deviation from the norm. How is this any different? They certainly do not seem to be forced to do any of this, but seem to enjoy being able to play music.

Even more, how can you call that a freak show, while you watched this video on YouTube? YouTube is the place for watching freaks. These people, with exceptional skills and disabilities, are less freakish than many others you can watch on YouTube.

  • a expirment for u guys to try, pop up ur favorite song on itunes, listen to it focus on the rythym the lyrics. now do it with ur eyes closed. like the impaired man instead of focusing on your 5 senses, your sight is gone, 4 senses left, try holding ur breath close ur nostrils for about 10 seconds and listen to that music, if ur focusing on only 3 senses the music should sound much more clear and you will be able to focus on the rythym and lyrics easier

  • Rex doesn't really raise my eyebrows but Derek is just fantastic!!

  • a minor is not a pitch. it's a chord... but these people don't cease to amaze me.

  • I know you are right, but after having seen him i do tend to believe him ヅ

I think its a shame to learn that a genius like him mostly duplicate and hardly ever create. I bet he can lift the music as we know it to a whole other level.

  • Autism is a superpower. I shit you not people. Society says they are impaired, but you can clearly see the truth.

  • Yeah, maybe its the next step in human evolution. Who knows...

  • Yes, yes, negative my comment, but I have met autistic children and worked with them and they blow my mind with the things that they can do or comprehend, especially for being "impaired".

  • Not all those with Autism are savants.

  • Autism is not the same as a Savant. A Savant is a very very rare case in Autism.

  • More often than not I have found that each child had one thing about them that was savant-esque. and while I agree, not all of autistic people are, the ones that do have these qualities...are like superheros.

  • @jerrymonkey yeh thats true i have autisim nd i dont think i have a super talent . iether that or i dont know what it is yet o just simply dont have one .

  • @jerrymonkey You don't need to be autistic to be a savant. Kim Peek, the original Rain Main, wasn't autistic.

  • @hannesje2 false

  • mabye, but untill we can see inside their head, well not know if theyre stupid, or insanley smart and overloaded with info

  • most of this footage is taken from a documentary that's up here on youtube

  • what is the name of the song they were playing at the very end of the video?

  • You misunderstand. I am just wondering if the risk of blindness is increased by autism. After all, most autistic brains have some abnormalities. I also read that 40% of all autists have a larger brain (in a scientific psycological book)

  • derek defines genius like no other musician.

  • Are there ANY relation between Autism and blindness or are this just a coinsedense? I ask because i got Autism myself (mild form) but are also blind on my right eye, and have been so since birth. I asked a doctor, but she said it was two different syndromes... This brings me to doubt that statement.

  • course there isn't!

i have aspergers, i know a few autistic people, but they're not blind or anythng.

  • you are really interested in music

  • Simon Cohen is related to Sasha fyi.

  • 0:12

    "a BIG BOOMPAY BOOMP AH?"

  • Haha!

  • if daredevil played the piano

  • i agree ..simplistic explanations. i was borderline savant and am a psychologist .. i think we need more people to develop high level skills and be able to describe them from the inside. Personally i've found it really hard to do both.

  • oh yea sure.. im a savant too.

  • this is exactly why the arts exist.

  • but do they have any ability to compose music?

  • Well there is a special Braille musical note system as well as several electronic aids they might be able to use, despite of their autism.

  • good question

  • I know some musical savants can, its often variations on existing themes though

  • My question is if an autist person with photographical memory and no symbolic thought can really be called a savant. Also, we need to define what is intelligence. Im sure that intelligence is not perfectionism at a single matter or subject, but the daily ability to think, judge and act..

  • Mate intelligence is defined, at least on most modern IQ tests on various sub-tests. The most common IQ test, the WAIS III uses 14 different sub-tests to gauge 14 specific aspects of intelligence. After this you combine them to get performance and verbal IQ, which combine the gauge General IQ, what some refer to as G. Are these men genius by IQ test standards? no, they both would be identified as severely mentally retarded. But for some reason they totally kick ass at piano! kudos to them

  • They have the extraordinary ability in performing musical arts but they paying it by being mentally retarded...

  • the full term was 'idiots savants' but they dropped the idiot because its impolite .. the understanding was alway that there was limitation combined with very bright areas of skill.

  • pity the sound is so out of sync.

  • rex lewis-clack was on a recent 60 minutes episode

    this stuff is crazy

and kiikasi prove that youre a savant

  • i don't believe you

  • this kid goes around on every youtube video claiming hes a savant... fucking bs

  • I have? I wasn't aware I was doing that. Sorry. It must have taken me quite a while to post that on every youtube video. (Just so you know, I only posted that on 2 videos on the subject)

  • kiikasi.

no you're just another idiot attention seeker.

    these two have real talent

  • just saw derek duet with jules holland at the savoy and he was breath taking, wow, what a pianist.

  • good, now perform for the masses!

    BY OUR PUPPETS!

  • daredevil

  • reminds me of the movie Shine.

  • This is the most amazing thing ive ever seen in my life! i hope i can see the full documentary.

  • wow thats so amazing

  • Wohw! Those guys really play! :D I have (almost) perfect musical hearing also. I understand the young man covering his ears at the concert. I also have great difficulties when enthousiastic people try to sing, misplay or can't tune a guitar. Some karaoke singers simply scare me. If you are interested in an example, go look at the "Raining Mac Cain" video. ;P Some people just should not sing. I have to admit that I can't dance. So I don't wanna confront people with me trying to.

    Great vid! 5*!

  • Good People...If you are able to catch this documentary in full don't pass it up. It's brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

  • Vegas sucks. The poor kid was clearly uncomfortable around the needlessly amplified guitars and incessantly annoying percussion noise. The audience, band and all those who profited off this gratuitous, exploitive venture should be ashamed of themselves.

  • calm down vks7405 it was for a charity event, not for profit

  • AMAZING!

  • If I hear one more person talking about who they are and what they do I'm gonna barf. No one cares about you, nor are you a savant or extremely gifted. What you are is extremely marginal at best with an overflowing feeling of inadequateness or worthlessness, in which you only prove by comparing yourselves to savants. You really are pathetic to all those no body's so desperate for selfesteem.

  • feeling existential are we?

  • @Anentity That's how I feel each time someone tells me their kid is in a so-called gifted and talented program at their public school. All they are is dull and ordinary.

  • The most amazing guy eva mn savantz are soooo kool and rare

  • Very fuckin' AMAZING!!! Very cool!!

  • Nice video..

  • COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS!!!!

  • Waffenss. i dont want to take away your mothers job

  • im among people who finally understand what its like to be different thanks everyone

  • There was a crooked man who walked crooked mile refers to the unusual paths light has to travel to go home

  • Bad documentary about two interesting people. They are savants, neither superlatively gifted as savants go....They meet...They play a benefit concert as desired. "He's a musical human who is a supermusical human"? Gag.

  • I talked with Rex Lewis yesterday. He is so cool, he loves to spin around in rolly chairs and is an amazing piano player.

  • Wow, he's playing paganini on the piano. Awesome.

  • That's amazing. I have High-Fuctioning Autism, but the only musical talent I have is singing. My other special talents are drawing, painting, and writing.

  • im a gamer and i love to sing im finally in a place where i can be me with no fear of rejection

  • - I and a friend have music memory problems

(click on my name and choose "WORK IN PROGRESS")

    ..

  • i was born with a rare form of autism so i have to del with sensitive hearing and immaturity ever day also i llove to play games but i am not a savant

  • A rare form of autism that isn't savant? What is it, then?

  • aspergers

  • Oh, I have that too. Aspies aren't that rare, though. I thought you were refering to another type that I may not have heard of.

  • its rare because im a female

  • Yay, me too! Small world :D

  • you are a female

  • Yep.

  • awesome! :)

  • i was wonderin why the piano is always the instrument of choice with these musical geniuses. do any play the guitar?

  • That's actually an interesting question. It may be due to the fact that the piano is very systematic in it's approach. You strike a key and it makes noise, you play on the white keys and you get C Major and A Minor. On guitar notes repeat themselves all over the fretboard, the strings in standard tuning have an odd gap and the technique involved in making a note is much more intense at prodigious levels.

  • Yes you are correct, the standard tuning of a guitar is a bit odd compared to a notes of a piano and not as predictable. The piano is easier to visually see/feel the note and chord progression, it makes sence as if it was a human voice layed out in a fairly simple form...

  • the soundtrack to his entire life is 4'33"! beautiful

  • pespekt

  • hey that dude Simon Baron Cohen looks kinda like Sacha Baron Kohen aka Ali G and Borat!

  • He's his cousin. Look it up; I'm not joking.

  • It is him narrating...

  • amazing

  • you can say that again...

  • amazing
