@tnafguy ...and then there is today, with all the facts of geology, plate tectonics and genetics filling all those gaps and answering all those questions he had. He was ahead of his time.
Atheist Will claim anyone for there Crusade. Einstein, all the Founding Fathers. Einstein was a agnostic and all the Founding Fathers where Deist. They also recognized the need for religious freedom. Einstein rejected Atheism as Closed Minded (hes kinda right). Even Carl Sagan said "An atheist has to know a lot more than I know. An atheist is someone who knows there is no god. By some definitions atheism is very stupid. Im agnostic" (Again hes is right.) .P.s I'm not religious.
@Tuber77 Agnosticism is generally a form of either atheism or deism, which are more alike then young-earth creationism. No atheist I know claims the founding fathers to their beliefs, we all know they're deists, however, they were still closer to atheists then theists, a deist rejects the supernatural, accept recent major scientific advancements, and don't resort to lies such as atheists trying to claim Galileo, when it's obvious to anyone with any world history knowledge that he was Christian.
@Tuber77 You're wrong. Atheist say they don 't know if there is a god and there is no evidence to suggest there is one. You're parroting the silly line that atheism is faith based, it isn't.
@Tuber77 As for Einstein... "I received your letter of June 10th. I have never talked to a Jesuit priest in my life and I am astonished by the audacity to tell such lies about me. From the viewpoint of a Jesuit priest I am, of course, and have always been an atheist." - Albert Einstein, letter to Guy H. Raner Jr, July 2, 1945, responding to a rumor that a Jesuit priest had caused Einstein to convert from atheism; quoted by Michael R. Gilmore in Skeptic, Vol. 5, No. 2.
The philosopher Hume argues that the only true knowledge one can obtain is gained through experience in the senses. I have experienced God this way...however, I was not there at the big bang, and haven't seen it occur, heard its after effects, touched the matter that was exploding...
...tasted it somehow (to say that I have experienced it through taste would be like the myth of saying the moon was made of cheese and I could taste it), or smelled the pure energy it is surmised that was the immediate result of it.
@newspapersuit Funny you bringing up the moon and cheese, because if the faithfuls religion claimed the moon was made of cheese, we could fly them there, shove moon dirt in their mouths and they would spit it out proclaiming it was dirt flavored cheese.
Religion destroys the part of the mind that makes you human.
If you believe in God, then there is no need to shove your belief on the non-believers. your insistence just proves you have doubts and you not comfortable with it that is why you want to blame others for your discomfort.
@morethanever100 If the qualification for someone having doubts (like you surmise that believers have) is that they "shove" it on others (your reference to unbelievers), than evolutionists have doubts as well because I could easily say that they "shove" beliefs (both unchanging notions and changing notions about their theory) onto classrooms.
@newspapersuit As an agnostic deist I can personally say that I have no doubts on the theory of natural selection by Charles Darwin being the epitome of theories to explain evolution (it was theorized by most Greek and Taoist Philosophers before the Hebrew Torah was even completed in 450 B.C.) and the diversity of life, however I have doubts that if young earth creationists are ever allowed to use their dishonest techniques in school classrooms that humanity will ever become closer to the truth.
"Mutations are copying mistakes" - lol, erm.. no. really, mutation is not "copying" anything at all. a mutation is a manipulation of the sequence. unless that manipulation destroys the DNA, which it usually does, THEN it is copied - THAT'S called "translation", not "mutation".
Galileo showed the earth is not the center of everything, he saw Jupiter’s moons. The church put him under house arrest for proving the Bible is Wrong.
Everyone was an chirstains back then.. You honestly think people would admit to being atheist back then.( given what the catholic church did to atheist)
Unlike relgion atheist dont kill themselves for there lack of belief
@Simplistic7SalvatioN The corruption of genetic information IS the gaining of information, it's a change, and if it's left unchanged then how is that a mutation?
@Simplistic7SalvatioN you clearly don't understand science, evolution is not proof, it's a theory and science is never 100%. Also, all the evidence you need is in the fossil record and in the very nature of how population gene frequency's behave, we've observed the prosses. So to prove you understand evolution, please quickly outline it in your own words.
@Simplistic7SalvatioN you thought scientific method was a person..it's not just an insult, it's true you dont understand it. How conviniunt you have to have faith to have faith and the key word in that ia *seem*, faith has got humanity nowhere, observing the natural world has got us everywhere we are today, and please, you guys are still using pascaells wager?! that's been long debunked..what if god only lets athiests into hevan, or if zeuse is real or any of the millions of gods before yours
@Simplistic7SalvatioN Now, go and find out what the scientific prossess really is, and how it is the best method of creating predictive (and therefore accurate) models. The same method went into the computor your using to persist in disputing something you know nothing about. So please, come back to me once you know the scientific method.
@Simplistic7SalvatioN I keep telling you; they were discovered through the scientific method, which you know nothing about. The prosses of science is entirely objective! now please, do what few religiouse have done before and free yourself of ignorance... for christ's sake...
@Simplistic7SalvatioN as MetalliC said, No one makes the facts, we discover them with the scientific method as our tool, a thorough prosess. Evolution has been discovered using this method. Now please, I urge you to look into what the method intails before you continue to dispute its discoveries.
@Simplistic7SalvatioN Evolution has gone through more *scientific* scrutiny than any other theory in history and still stands on the table, un-contradicted by any FACT. Science doesn't care if it contradicts your little bronze aged book.
No matter what your beliefs were back then, any sensible person today would realise that from what we know about history and life under religious regimes, it was lip service or death.
i wonder how these awful christinas will feel after god is proved compltly false, i wonder how many people will look up to us athiests rather than spitting on us like this vid, and all of his other vids do
@Keys0penD00RS The interesting thing about your story is that you must not know the history of the Catholic Church. Catholics are NOT Christians! The Catholic Church was responsible for the torture and mutilation of millions of Bible believing Christians throughout history. And yet somehow they deceived themselves into thinking they were God's people but didn't follow His commands in SCRIPTURE ALONE. Look it up. They killed many during the Reformers era.
@Keys0penD00RS lol good answer. but just think about it what happend in the middle ages was people used the bible and Jesus just to gain power and the bible even talks about "wolves in sheep clothing" if you look into the teaching of Jesus its all about love and we dont look down on people who dont accept christ we try to show them the love of Jesus as much as we can and only God knows what's in their hearts, im not here to debate just wanna ask you to give it some thought.....
@avk98765 No doubt the the teachings of Jesus was very good, he did have a lot of good ideas on how we should treat each other, its just the people that claim to follow the Bible and cherry pick versus' to justify what they do. Also just a little angry with thewayofthemaster using a weak appeal to authority of someone before the enlightenment, and the irony of using someone that was just recently forgiven of his "crimes"
@lagerbaer It proves that most of the arguments "atheists" (agnostics) come up with have been adapted from theories that came from individuals who held a Christian World view. Yet somehow the propaganda being displayed by agnostics has to twist the original beliefs of the theorist to show that somehow they too were part of the evolutionist agenda when in fact that is not the case at all.
In laymen's terms, agnostics can prove nothing so they foment lies to push their agenda. Web of deceit.
@TheSylversurfer77 Nobody claims galileo believed in evolution. What we emphasize is this: Discoveries about the world are done by free and honest inquiry using the scientific method. Galileo's scientific discoveries do not originate from his otherwise Christian world view. They originate from him sitting down and thinking hard about his own observations, not from him sitting down and reading the Bible. In this sense, science IS atheistic, because experiments and theories are not religious.
if you've never heard it before, the term "argument by authority" means appealing to people by telling them that a famous or respectable person or institution thinks this way, so you should too.
it 's the reason this video was made.
but i don't care if galileo believed in god, just like i don't care that he ALSO believed all human health was tied to the four "bodily humours." despite his intelligence, it's just irrelevant.
Yeah, sure, god COULD have made birds and fishes out of lead but since they would be incapable of swimming and flying they would have disappeared by now, in fact they probably would not have survived for more than one generation.
Evolution is not the idea that birds and fishes just happen to have the right weight to swim and fly, it's the idea that those who do not have perfect weight to swim and fly die.
Yeah, he's not an atheist. Shocking. By the way does that, somehow refute anything in the scientific community? This doesn't support anything you guys have :|
You are not god, you don't get to decide who is a christian and who is not.
Further, if taken metaphorically, then the story of adam and eve can serve to illustrate the evolution of consciousness in humanity.
Prior to eating fruit of the true of knowledge of good and evil (evolution of consciousness in humans) primates were no different than the rest of the animal kingdom, but after wards they became aware of there defects in the eyes of the lord.
@mtheoryrules True, but the word of God decides who is a christian and who's not, and by looking at the bible, you are not. Instead of going to the word of God, you go to doctrines of men. You can't be an evolutionist and a christian at the same time. The bible said that we are made in the image of God, not animals.
Men are made in gods image because we are able to reason, unlike other creatures, if god did not want us to use our minds then he would not have allowed our brains to evolve the capacity to reason.
Great men of science are no less divinely inspired than those that wrote scriptures.
It is the flesh of our brains that is different from animals.
And using the mind god granted you allows your soul connection to the divine.
And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe.
Galatians 1:8
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
@ChristianSoldier4God Its funny how you use scriptures from the bible that suit you but never mention the ones like... Ezekiel 20:25-26 I also gave them over to statutes that were not good and laws they could not live by; I let them become defiled through their gifts—the sacrifice of every firstborn—that I might fill them with horror so they would know that I am the LORD.
Again, Galileo was very much an atheist with reference to the god his church was persecuting him for debunking at the time - Otherwise they wouldn't have been persecuting him for it.
They were preaching a god, who was supported by scriptures, which insisted the sun orbited the earth, along with the rest of the universe!
Just because they have sinced changed their story to fall in line with Galileo, Kepler and Copernicus doesn't help.
After all, a" God" is only as reliable as it's claimant !
Galileo also said “It vexes me when they would constrain science by the authority of the Scriptures, and yet do not consider themselves bound to answer reason and experiment.”
Galileo was a Catholic but he really did not beleive that God would want his children to be ignorant if we all had the capacity for the intelligence we have shown to have in folks like Carl Sagen, Einstein, Hawkins, among other great minds. People like you are an insult to humanity since you constanty take the quotes of the greatest minds of history out of context. Athiesm is not evil, indoctrination is. Get bent thewayofthemaster. You belong in hell with the rest of your ilk.
Yes its a shame that galileo lived in an ignorant time when humans didn't know any better, what could he have accomplished today without all that religious bullshit? The problem is in galileo's time there was no propper education about religion it was just all doctrine which makes me wonder why, when we do have propper education today, do these stupid fucking christians still believe in those fucking assinine fairy tales? you must be mentally defficient in some way!
Galileo lived before evolution. Almost 200 years before evolution. Not to mention the theories of the Big Bang, Stellar/Planetary formation, etc., etc., etc. He had no other mechanism for explaining the universe around him than to rely on religious myths. This he cannot be blamed for.
His discoveries, which we know to be true, were seen as heretical by the catholic church because they contradicted the popular biblical view of the world at the time. It is the same way that the makers of this site view Darwin's discovery of the way species originate. Now and in the future ignorant christians will be judged as harshly as the christians who persecuted Galileo for his patient objective discoveries.
does this matter? he lived in a society where religion was law, and all followed that law, like we follow our laws now, so of course he wasnt an atheist like we think about an atheist today.
@mtheoryrules "Genesis is a metaphor about the fall from grace." no it is not.. and your comment is appropriate for someone who clearly does not read the entire Bible even once..!
@Snipe4261 public opinion does not make a sentence true or false, just show how many people is angry or happy with that sentece. i.e.: you showing anger
HOORAY! I have found someone like me who pities the idea of a war between religion and science. Luckily there are few like us who embrace both faith AND reason.
And what evidence did Galileo base all that crap upon? Scientific observation? No - his only claim to greatness was the scientific discovery that the catholic church was wrong about the earth being the center of the universe. For which he was threatened with torture and death. But nevertheless, Galileo the scientist was right, and pope, the ju-ju man was wrong. Whatever pseudo-religious bullshit Galileo subsequebtly said, does him no credit - he is not remembered for that.
300 years ago, there was very little understanding of Biology as most biological phenomena was unobservable through contemporary means. Therefore, why do we care about the opinions of Galileo and Newton who lived hundreds of years ago when the opinions were of a field they had little understanding of? I love their imperical unbiased work in their respective fields but they were still using a god to fill in the gaps of their current understanding of how nature operates.
@7tylerjb An opposing 'opinion.' You're entitled to it. However, playing this game by your rules, I could just as easily say that anyone who thinks that everything was created 6000 years ago in 6 days by some mystical, magic deity (who was not created but always there) is being ignorant and foolish. A statement like that means just as little to you as it does to me.
@bencamp18 Yes so you admit that both cosmology and evolution take faith just as Christianity requires faith. Now comes the part where you choose one that you like or that seems more logical. I chose God because I refuse to believe we are just biological proponents of a faulty process. You chose evolution for reasons I don't know. You'll probably reply with something like "Because there is so much evidence to back it up".
@7tylerjb Wow, it's like you know me so well. I guess you can fit all there is to know about all atheists into a thimble. I could go into all the evidence if you like but something tells me that you've heard all of it before and have persisited in your beliefs anyway regardless to what the overwhelming majority of the scientific community has to say. Kudos to you. We could go through all of the motions of an intelligent debate where I belittle you and you belittle me into infinity...
@7tylerjb Like you presumably, I was raised Christian & spent the first 16 years of life in unquestioning service to Christianity. Unlike you, I had a turning point brought on by an event in my life that shook me out of complacency. I began questioning foundations that I based my life upon. Christianity failed my own tests of simple logic:"How could a perfect being create such imperfect things? Why give us free will to punish us forever for using it? Why do bad things happen to good people, etc."
@7tylerjb The point is, I didn't want to be an Atheist & would have given anything to be able to believe 100% in God. I wasn't looking for an excuse to be more hedonistic or self-centered. But it was something I learned to accept. But no, I don't admit that Cosmology and Evolution require faith, at least not in the same sense that creationism does. Creationism starts with an answer and then tries to bend science to support that answer-something that real science doesn't do b/c It has no agenda.
@bencamp18 Scientists like our dear Galileo, Newton, & present day scientists never set out with an agenda to disprove the existence of God. That was merely a byproduct of learning more about the universe we live in. To their credits, G & N tried with all their beings to hold to Christianity & reconcile the 2 ideologies. If they have been labled otherwise, it was by an unconvinced church. But using quotes about a science they had nothing invested in is hardly a convincing argument.
I don't think the question here should be so much "Was Galileo an Atheist?" as it should be "Did a superstitious, backward-thinking church persecute a great man to satisfy its own insecurities?"
These religious quotes from Galileo certainly didn't save him from being labeled a heretic and being imprisoned until his death in the name of Christianity.
He may have seen himself as Christian but it was the church itself that claimed otherwise.
@kmiroshkhin YEAH. I LIKE HOW THEY FAIL TO MENTION THAT AFTER HE PROPOSED THAT THE EARTH WAS NOT THE CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSE, THE CHURCH PUT HIM UNDER HOUSE ARREST FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE.
HOW FUCKING DARE CHRISTIANITY TRY AND BRING HIM BACK INTO THE FOLD NOW THAT THEY NEED HIM.
@KeithUnderneath It seems to me that you don't understand the difference between religion and church. Galileo Galilei believed in the CATHOLIC RELIGION, not in the CATHOLIC CHURCH.
did he hate fags? i've heard god hates fags, so i'm assuming Galileo also hated fags.
i hope Stephen Hawking isn't into auto-erotic asphyxiation, because i slavishly follow the irrelevant personal habits of ppl whose work i respect, i'd have to put a bag on my head.
can i just put one on Kirk Cameron's head instead? i'm pretty sure he hates fags.
It is not surprising that Galileo was religious, seeing as he lived in a time where we had little knowledge of the universe, and even he was born yesterday it would not for a second mean that any of his insights were in anyway based upon his religious beliefs.
the way of the maste...even if there is god or some supreme being a deity it is not a biblical or religios kind the same that says earth is 10000 years old in which 45% of americans belive and who knows how many people in world....so to the likes of those i say...fuck you rednecks go and be like amish and leave the rest of reasonable people alone with their lives cause for sure they can live without you and your bullshit!!
Umm ... I don't think anyone thinks he was an atheist ... just that he was tried for heresy by the Church ... forced by to recant his heliocentric views under threat of torture ... and then sentenced to life imprisonment. When atheists talk about Galileo they are talking about the Church's historical repression of science ... not its historical repression of Atheists.
@nathanielselby After all if he were an Atheist he would have been sentenced to death instead of life imprisonment ... as was the tradition for Atheists of the time.
How convenient to leave out the fact that he was executed by mandate of the holy church. Of course scientists can and do believe in god. They have a intimate relationship with god as we grow as a species and are critical to our success as a global people. There is only one creator. Its speaks as a pure energy source of love. It cannot be heard by people who preach negativity and deceptions. You cannot understand our creator until you understand yourself, and love yourself. No book will help.
Galileo dared not to offend the Catholic Church during that time, I mean who'd have dared to?! I am sick of these fucking Christians trying to put big names in their pathetic league of retards and tell everybody that Christians are smart and brilliant people, too. But when Adolf Hitler mentioned God several times in his Mein Kampf, no Christian would make a video honoring him...
@Voodoofreak35 what's wrong with him actually believing in god? Maybe he did believe in god yes I know that the churches back in the old days did things to people who didn't agree with them. But can't scientist believe in god too
It's okay that you're an atheist, and I don't that offending but I do find you calling christians stupid you have to admit it's really mean no christians are not stupid only the crazy ones are :)
@catizzlefunfun How can you be sure what he believed? Nobody can, but scientists simply have better things to do other than praying to an imaginary friend. You can't deny that. ;)
I don't think the Church would have let him live had they even suspected Galileo was an Atheist. As it was, he was imprisoned for the suggestion that the Earth was not the centre of the Universe. Or that he saw the Moons of Jupiter in his telescope as it was, they treated him miserably.
In spite of Religion we now accept the Earth orbits the Sun and that the Universe is vaster than they could otherwise have imagined. Science has gone on to explain much of what was superstition through reason.
This video is kind of redundant. Never once does it say that Galileo Galilei was an atheist , just that he found information that led to the Big Bang.
"To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin." [Cardinal Bellarmine, 1615, during the trial of Galileo]
Should be an Atheist! He was boiled to death in oil by the fucking Church! Just for saying that the Earth wasn't the center of our galaxy!...Which he was later proven right about.
He was tried by the Inquisition, found suspect of heresy for claiming that the Earth wasn't the center of our galaxy. Thus; he was boiled and tortured until forced to recant, then spent the rest of his life under house arrest until death!
Till this day the vatican will not release the contents of his "trial"...
Sorry for getting it twisted, I assumed being boiled by the church would have been the thing that did him in.... My bad!
@ivlfounder Yeah! it's a series of books actually called "World history" LoL!
And my library is called the "Mamie Doud Eisenhower Public Library" located in Broomfield Colorado, which is one of the highest regarded and best rated public libraries in the U.S...
Sorry I don't get my facts from edited down, viewer friendly PBS specials like yourself.
@ivlfounder LoL! yEAH, I'm sure everyone is sure to write down the 10-digit number that identifies books and publishers for some reason every time they read! LoL!
Your really struggling to grasp something to deny common education! So,The Christian version of the great inquisition...
"Cake and punch was served while everyone was more than happy to give up common logic and accept that our god is responsible for everything, and nobody was ghoulishly tortured, raped. or murdered." Hahahha
@ivlfounder Already did, and submitted the facts of the matter that were discovered. Your conditioning to deny any negative facts concerning your faith is disturbing..
Maybe get a real education and find out what the world is about. Home schooling should be banned.
You claimed a book called "world history" and refused to give any more information about it.
Maybe your mom thought your using the name of a non existant book was ok for a citation when you were home schooled but that doesn't cut it in the real world.
It's sad really just how willing you are to spread disinformation.
@ivlfounder what more information do home-schooled religious individuals need other than a title of a series of history books? Look shit up! Do you need someone do draw you a map? Whats sad is that your conditioning promotes ignorance to deny everything in order hold onto faith.. Now your literally scrounging desperately to deny the existence of documented historical facts?
So, If something takes light away for your faith or proves negative, it must not be true and libraries don't exist..
@ivlfounder No, I have a real education like real people. Can you comprehend things you read?
Lets say Gelileo wasn't tortured by the inquisitions, Does that account for the hundreds of Innocent people that WERE ghoulishly tortured & murdered by the church? No! Your side is STILL completely outweighed by a very large account. Or do you deny the inquisition happened as well!? LOL..
I have told you my sources a number of times, Pay attention! How can you preposterously deny such obvious things?
@ivlfounder wow, so your just going to further avoid the question and pick and choose what you want to believe as fact, even from an obviously hypothetical statement!?... Are you retarded!?
The inquisition was organized through the Catholic Church in Spain and was supported by the Spanish monarchy. The Spanish monarchy created it to replace the medieval inquisition which was controlled by the Church in Rome. It targeted people who claimed to be Christian but were suspected of not being so. Around 2000 people were actually killed between 1500 and 1740, with the rest of the some 50000 trials being reconciled, or receiving lighter punishments etc etc. Continued in next post.
About 2000 people died between 1480 and 1530 under the leadership of Spains Grand Inquisitor, Torquemada. Torquemada was responsible to Spain's secular leadership and not the Church in Rome. In fact, Torquemada was on his way to a trial for Heresy in Rome when he died of a heart attack. It is likely that he would himself have been condemned as a Heretic.
The Spanish Inquisition pales in Comparisons to the murder of Theists by Atheists. Lets let alone the millions who were starved, butchered and shot by the great totalitarians of the 20th century, and remember those who were killed for their religion. The Inquisition pales to the mass murder of Christians and Buddhists in the Soviet Union and Red China to name 2 examples.
So, to argue that the Spanish Inquisition is reflective of Christianity or Catholicism as a whole is extremely stupid, and to use that as justification for Atheism is hypocritical considering Atheism's history of Religious intolerance (that is intolerance towards people who are religious). It seems to me, that your "Real Education" regarding this, was,at best, a European History course in Grade school.
Back in those days the knowledge of the world around them was limited, so they explained it with God. These days, we HAVE that knowledge, so God is slowly but surely being taken over.
Its irrelevant to say he wasnt atheist. The reason a lot of people call creationists idiots these days is because we now have evidence against it...
the argument seems to be, these guys are smarter than i am, so i should just forget about my own judgement and think what they did.
so i'm not even going to get into the debate about whether this or that famous thinker was a theist. i don't actively disbelieve, i just don't believe blindly. there's a difference. incidentally, i don't care if Galileo thought internal combustion engines were possible, either.
@tnafguy ...and then there is today, with all the facts of geology, plate tectonics and genetics filling all those gaps and answering all those questions he had. He was ahead of his time.

Leave it to liars for Jesus. Galileo was a Christian and there are no homosexuals in North Korea.
I Galileo came out as an atheist, he would have more then likely been attested. That makes the claim even more disgusting.

@Simplistic7SalvatioN oh and PS..there is no "creator of facts", facts are not created, they are discovered...by science...
sloosh6000 9 months ago

So please, come back to me once you know the scientific method.

sloosh6000 9 months ago
@Simplistic7SalvatioN as MetalliC said, No one makes the facts, we discover them with the scientific method as our tool, a thorough prosess. Evolution has been discovered using this method. Now please, I urge you to look into what the method intails before you continue to dispute its discoveries.

@Simplistic7SalvatioN educated yourself on what your disputing yet?
sloosh6000 9 months ago
@Simplistic7SalvatioN If you don't know what the scientific method is, I really don't think you should be disputing science.
sloosh6000 9 months ago
@Simplistic7SalvatioN No, the scientific method says these are facts, which is foundationally objective.
sloosh6000 9 months ago
@Simplistic7SalvatioN Evolution has gone through more *scientific* scrutiny than any other theory in history and still stands on the table, un-contradicted by any FACT. Science doesn't care if it contradicts your little bronze aged book.

Keys0penD00RS 6 months ago
Wow. A person who lived in Europe in the pre-enlightenment area was a Christian? Gasp! So what? What does that prove?
lagerbaer 1 year ago 17
@lagerbaer It proves that most of the arguments "atheists" (agnostics) come up with have been adapted from theories that came from individuals who held a Christian World view. Yet somehow the propaganda being displayed by agnostics has to twist the original beliefs of the theorist to show that somehow they too were part of the evolutionist agenda when in fact that is not the case at all.
In laymen's terms, agnostics can prove nothing so they foment lies to push their agenda. Web of deceit.
TheSylversurfer77 7 months ago
@TheSylversurfer77 Nobody claims galileo believed in evolution. What we emphasize is this: Discoveries about the world are done by free and honest inquiry using the scientific method. Galileo's scientific discoveries do not originate from his otherwise Christian world view. They originate from him sitting down and thinking hard about his own observations, not from him sitting down and reading the Bible. In this sense, science IS atheistic, because experiments and theories are not religious.

I do not think it talks about evolution in the bible.
But the people that wrote the scriptures were wrong about a lot of things.
Like the earth is not flat.
The earth is not the center of the solar system or the universe.
Bats are not birds and so on, do not get confused about the message of bible scriptures, and the reality of nature.
Science is the study of nature, and god created that, so it can not be a lie.

mtheoryrules 1 year ago
@mtheoryrules True, but the word of God decides who is a christian and who's not, and by looking at the bible, you are not. Instead of going to the word of God, you go to doctrines of men. You can't be an evolutionist and a christian at the same time. The bible said that we are made in the image of God, not animals.
1 Cortinthians 15:39
All flesh is not the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another.
ChristianSoldier4God 1 year ago
@ChristianSoldier4God
Dont be silly
the bible was written by men
Men are made in gods image because we are able to reason, unlike other creatures, if god did not want us to use our minds then he would not have allowed our brains to evolve the capacity to reason.
Great men of science are no less divinely inspired than those that wrote scriptures.
It is the flesh of our brains that is different from animals.
And using the mind god granted you allows your soul connection to the divine.
mtheoryrules 1 year ago
If men is in the image of God then why do you accept doctrines of men?
1 Thessalonians 2:13
And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe.
Galatians 1:8
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

@ChristianSoldier4God
Thanks for making my point.
The teachings of the iconic scientists is no less divinely inspired than that or great spiritual leaders.
I accept the those doctrines which are truth, I am able to know what is truth by virtue of my capacity to reason.
If god did not intend man to use reason, he would not have bestowed it upon us.
I will not turn my back on reason and god, simply because men like you say it is not christian.
I suggest you pray about it if you have a problem.

You are supposed to take the message of those words and apply it to real life.
Not become a idolater and worship the book itself.

You should worship god, not a book or peoples OPINIONS about it.

A statement like that means just as little to you as it does to me.
bencamp18 1 year ago
@bencamp18 Yes so you admit that both cosmology and evolution take faith just as Christianity requires faith. Now comes the part where you choose one that you like or that seems more logical. I chose God because I refuse to believe we are just biological proponents of a faulty process. You chose evolution for reasons I don't know. You'll probably reply with something like "Because there is so much evidence to back it up".
7tylerjb 1 year ago
@7tylerjb Wow, it's like you know me so well. I guess you can fit all there is to know about all atheists into a thimble. I could go into all the evidence if you like but something tells me that you've heard all of it before and have persisited in your beliefs anyway regardless to what the overwhelming majority of the scientific community has to say. Kudos to you. We could go through all of the motions of an intelligent debate where I belittle you and you belittle me into infinity...
bencamp18 1 year ago
@7tylerjb Like you presumably, I was raised Christian & spent the first 16 years of life in unquestioning service to Christianity. Unlike you, I had a turning point brought on by an event in my life that shook me out of complacency. I began questioning foundations that I based my life upon. Christianity failed my own tests of simple logic:"How could a perfect being create such imperfect things? Why give us free will to punish us forever for using it? Why do bad things happen to good people, etc."
bencamp18 1 year ago
@7tylerjb The point is, I didn't want to be an Atheist & would have given anything to be able to believe 100% in God. I wasn't looking for an excuse to be more hedonistic or self-centered. But it was something I learned to accept. But no, I don't admit that Cosmology and Evolution require faith, at least not in the same sense that creationism does. Creationism starts with an answer and then tries to bend science to support that answer-something that real science doesn't do b/c It has no agenda.
bencamp18 1 year ago
@bencamp18 Scientists like our dear Galileo, Newton, & present day scientists never set out with an agenda to disprove the existence of God. That was merely a byproduct of learning more about the universe we live in. To their credits, G & N tried with all their beings to hold to Christianity & reconcile the 2 ideologies. If they have been labled otherwise, it was by an unconvinced church. But using quotes about a science they had nothing invested in is hardly a convincing argument.
bencamp18 1 year ago
I don't think the question here should be so much "Was Galileo an Atheist?" as it should be "Did a superstitious, backward-thinking church persecute a great man to satisfy its own insecurities?"
These religious quotes from Galileo certainly didn't save him from being labeled a heretic and being imprisoned until his death in the name of Christianity.
He may have seen himself as Christian but it was the church itself that claimed otherwise.

In spite of Religion we now accept the Earth orbits the Sun and that the Universe is vaster than they could otherwise have imagined. Science has gone on to explain much of what was superstition through reason.

My bad!
ubersteigen 1 year ago
Uh no Galileo wasn't tortured and my sources are law schools and pbs.
What's yours?
ivlfounder 1 year ago
@ivlfounder History and facts.
ubersteigen 1 year ago
You don't have a source?
ivlfounder 1 year ago
@ivlfounder Just my library and what historians have documented.
It's no pbs special or anything, lol.
ubersteigen 1 year ago
Do the "books" in your "library" have names?
ivlfounder 1 year ago
@ivlfounder Yeah! it's a series of books actually called "World history" LoL!
And my library is called the "Mamie Doud Eisenhower Public Library" located in Broomfield Colorado, which is one of the highest regarded and best rated public libraries in the U.S...
Sorry I don't get my facts from edited down, viewer friendly PBS specials like yourself.
ubersteigen 1 year ago
Uh huh and what's the book's isbn?
Or does it not exist?
ivlfounder 1 year ago
@ivlfounder LoL! yEAH, I'm sure everyone is sure to write down the 10-digit number that identifies books and publishers for some reason every time they read! LoL!
Your really struggling to grasp something to deny common education! So,The Christian version of the great inquisition...
"Cake and punch was served while everyone was more than happy to give up common logic and accept that our god is responsible for everything, and nobody was ghoulishly tortured, raped. or murdered." Hahahha
ubersteigen 1 year ago
LOL If you don't have the book just say so like a big boy.
After all I can source my University based information at the drop of a hat.
ivlfounder 1 year ago
@ivlfounder And I already answered that I did.
Is this a christian university? You seem home-schooled or something.
ubersteigen 1 year ago
No it's not a Bob Jones style "University".
FTR one could called Harvard a Christian University.
ivlfounder 1 year ago
Yes I know that should be "call" not "called".
ivlfounder 1 year ago
@ivlfounder good, if you did go to university you should know how to research.
But really, was it home schooling? Do you also deny the holocaust because Nazis were religious?
ubersteigen 1 year ago
Just how is that relevant to a University having published information on the trial of Galileo Galilei including that he wasn't tortured?
Answer: It isn't.
Now are you interested in learning some facts about Galileo Galilei or not?
ivlfounder 1 year ago
@ivlfounder Haha, Thanks!
You just further proved my point.
ubersteigen 1 year ago
Avoid writing about Galileo Galilei all you want you just further prove my point.
ivlfounder 1 year ago
@ivlfounder Already did, and submitted the facts of the matter that were discovered. Your conditioning to deny any negative facts concerning your faith is disturbing..
Maybe get a real education and find out what the world is about. Home schooling should be banned.
ubersteigen 1 year ago
You claimed a book called "world history" and refused to give any more information about it.
Maybe your mom thought your using the name of a non existant book was ok for a citation when you were home schooled but that doesn't cut it in the real world.
It's sad really just how willing you are to spread disinformation.
ivlfounder 1 year ago
@ivlfounder what more information do home-schooled religious individuals need other than a title of a series of history books? Look shit up! Do you need someone do draw you a map? Whats sad is that your conditioning promotes ignorance to deny everything in order hold onto faith.. Now your literally scrounging desperately to deny the existence of documented historical facts?
So, If something takes light away for your faith or proves negative, it must not be true and libraries don't exist..
ubersteigen 1 year ago
I don't know why you want to hate on your home school education.
I do know however that Galileo Galilei wasn't tortured and that's according to a mainstream University.
I also know that you're afraid to cite your sources.
You know what that makes you right?

@ivlfounder No, I have a real education like real people. Can you comprehend things you read?
Lets say Gelileo wasn't tortured by the inquisitions, Does that account for the hundreds of Innocent people that WERE ghoulishly tortured & murdered by the church? No! Your side is STILL completely outweighed by a very large account. Or do you deny the inquisition happened as well!? LOL..
I have told you my sources a number of times, Pay attention! How can you preposterously deny such obvious things?
ubersteigen 1 year ago
"Lets say Gelileo wasn't tortured by the inquisitions"
Well I'm glad to hear you've finally accepted reality.
PS You're getting a real education right now.
ivlfounder 1 year ago
