Cool song. I just got into Björk a few months ago from....wait for it.......hip-hop. A sample from Joga was used in Missy Elliot's song, "hit dem wit tha hee" remix,(made in 98/99) produced by Timbaland(which Björk worked with a few years back). Once I found out who she was, its opened a another door for me musically and I couldn't be happier. :)

I think what I like about Bjork in the Sugarcubes is that the songs are not as crazily unique as her newer songs. I mean, I love the Sugarcubes songs a lot. They're catchy and fun to listen to. But in regards to Bjork herself, it seems like when you put her in an almost typical-sounding 80's song, you appreciate her voice much more because of how much it stands out. It just jumps out at you, and I love that.

What I love about Bjork is that she never appears the same in any of her vids. She has a different personality in each one. Whether with the sugarcubes, on her own, whatever - I can't get over how versatile she is - she's sweet, punky, naive, childlike, angelic, demonic, kinky, arty - and so on. Whatever fits the tune at the moment. All great artists share this. She must work incredibly hard at her craft, like a Meryll Streep or something.

I haven't listened to this song in years. "That girl on the bicycle showed great interest in all the motorcrashes in the neighbourhood" - Einar still sounds as mental as I remember. To me, him and Bjork were like yin and yang. Her solo stuff never did it for me in the same way. Music in the late 80s/early 90s was soooo much better than today.

I thought of the sugarcubes today when I read that Iceland's three mcdonalds franchises are closing. A sign of changing times when that happens-- I love the sugarcubes, I still play this tape, "Life's too Good" I bought it when it first came out (even before I had my first cd player,) I was twenty and I loved it then, now at 42, I still love it. I'm glad it's here for the kids to dicover. excellent post!
