everyone is missing the crucial FACT that the speedo sensor is mounted to the wheel. Indicated speed shown is in fact higher than actual speed traveled. GPS gives an accurate reading. so do cop speed traps.

I've an 06 636 & having seen this video I did some research on the accuracy of the digital speedo & found that they are 8% over - which gives this guy a speed of 169.44mph. I appreciate the comment that someone was hitting the rev limiter at 166mph on a dyno. These discrepancies of a couple of mph could well be down to tyre wear i.e. a new tyre has a greater circumference than a worn/part worn tyre

But he told me that you can get on easy extra 10hp just by unplugging some kind wire by the exhuast like a sensor or something. But only for the 05 and 06 years. haha def not 180 mark. my r1 will easily get there and the road will be going by way faster. definitely -1 +2 sprockets at the very least. very fast bike but no way is this stock or actual speed. put a speedohealer on it or gps and see what it says. i stick my garmin in my pocket and press stats and it gives you top speed, avg, moving avg etc for your trip. works w/in about a mile or 2 an hr.

...a STOCK 636 was pushed to 166mph ACTUAL speed. Don't remember the magazine I read it from, they did laser test on it. With good mods your probably looking around 170-175 ish before the revlimiter kicks in...which still isn't bad for only a 636 cubic centimeter engine!!

Well I never saw 188, I saw 181mph though. Just for your info, I actually got mine up to 186mph and that is the max...i know for a fact because mine actually cut off, unlike yours. I know I was up there too because my bike has a full ti akra system, pcIII, kleen air mod, k&n, jumper mod, always lubed chain, and a custom map. I'm not just bragging i just wanted to let you know that 186 is the MAX you will see unless you take the govenor off.

I question the accuracy of the speedometer on my 363 as well. Even at highway speeds of about 55 to 70. I'l be keeping up with traffic, yet doing about 10 to 15 over the limit. Maybe poeple here just drive fast. I dunno. =]

Find one of those radar displays the police set up and try it out. Mine was off, but not by a whole lot. Fastest I ever had mine was at least 145mph since I didnt look down after that. But who knows it could have been less since the speedo is not totally accurate.

i know someone with a 08 zx6r 1down 2 up sprockets, he got the speedo healer from healtech and now he got the correct top speed and his odometer is not off anymore, he now tops out at 147mph though...its amazing how far off our speedos are on all of our bikes...i seen another top speed run with gps on 04gsxr600 gps said 161, stock speedo said like 180mph or so, cant remember exactly, but thats a hell of a difference!
